Huuy
Hey, does anybody know if there is a way to remove keys from the R2 keyboard? My shift key squeaks when I press it down, kind of annoying.Thanks.
Founder Brian Posted May 3, 2011 Founder Share Posted May 3, 2011 I think someone on our forum actually replaced his keys by pulling them off. I can't recall the post but I'm sure if you do a quick search in the M17x section you'll find it.Edit: Found it - http://forum.techinferno.com/alienware-m17x/238-custom-m17-r3-inap-edition-5.html#post2919That was easy enough, guess our search function actually works unlike some sites *cough NBR*
Huuy
So I guess it's doable, now I just need to find out how to pop them off without breaking it . It's probably easier to find out once I remove the keyboard.

mw86
You can try taking the key off and those plastic hinges you see... rub a pencil's tip over the surfaces you can get too that hinge... it may act as a dry lubricant and get rid of said squeaking... just a thought. keys are annoying though to take off and put back on so be careful...
ichime
The way I did it, I pressed firmly on the bottom edge of the key while at the same time pulling on the top edge of the opposite side of the key until you hear a click or a pop sound (i.e you hold down the left bottom edge while pulling on the top right edge). You have to pull on it a bit because pulling it too hard right away might break the clamp that holds the key to the white plastic that's bound to the keyboard. Also, with the shift key, there is a metal bar that holds it. When putting your shift key back, remember to place the metal bar first and line the bar with the holes that it goes into on the keyboard.Once you start pulling off the keys, it'll be easy enough to put back after a while.
