mal3x
Hi guys, I purchased this card for my Dell Precision M6600. System boots up, but I am unable to install the drivers. I tried modded drivers, I tried turning whql off, but still errors. It says 680M successfully installed, but the video card section is not available any more (in device manager), and I get a yellow icon for Xenon E3-1200 PCI EXPRESS ROOT PORT. After reset, driver is uninstalled and I get the generic graphics card driver. Running Windows 8 64. This is the information when I boot up:SK104 P2051B SKU 503 VGA BIOS (HWDIAG)VERSION 80.04.01.21.00BUILD DATE: 02/01/12Should I update the bios? If so, what would you recommend. Thank you. svl7
Are you sure it's a 680m? Where did you get your card? Is it a Clevo / Dell / MSI card? Can you do me a huge favor and upload or send me a copy of your vbios? I want to take a look at it.
mal3x
How do I save the vbios? I got the card from eBay.
svl7
From ebay, I see... Try GPU-Z for saving the vbios, I think the latest version supports vbios backup for the 680m. Just click on the little chip icon at the right side of the "Bios version" line.
mal3x
Also, while trying to install modded drivers, the screen flashes, resolution changes, but then says failed to install driver.
svl7
I can imagine that... well, when I see your original vbios I should be able to help you.

mal3x
Searched some of the information above, and from what I found, it IS a 680M based on the number on transistors. Thanks for all the help.
svl7
Thank you very much. Highly interesting, must be a very early card. Board ID is the same as the K5000m, but the device ID is indeed the one of a 680m. I can't guarantee you that the OEM version of the 680m vbios will work on your card... But due to the board ID I think it's safe to assume that a current K5000m vbios should work.
mal3x
Anything I can do as far as preventing bricking the card if I flash it? Optimus activates in bios, so I will be able to boot it up even if I brick it? Thanks.
Clyde
mal3x,Is there on the board an SLI connector? ( J1 )
svl7
I'm not sure... not familiar with your system. If you can boot from IGP only while having the PCIe slot active, you might be able to recover from a brick. Else you would need help. mal3x
There is a SLI connector Attempting to flash k5000m bios. Fingers crossed.
mal3x
*EDIT* command "nvflash -5 -6 k5000.rom" worked, but the device ID is unchanged in windows. Does that sound right?
svl7
Cool, but weird that the device ID didn't change. Where did you look up the device ID? Drivers installed?
mal3x
I looked that Information up under Device management, hardware IDs.
svl7
And it says 11A0 with the new vbios? Can you post a screenshot showing the device manager -> hardware IDs.

svl7
Try installing the driver with this .inf file.(Put it in the drivers folder of the extracted driver, and replace the original file there, then run the setup.exe.)inf.zip

navydragon
I think I might have the same early version of the card, GPU shows as GK104 , release date June 4,2012, but i flashed it with modified Vbios 80.04.33.00.32 and works just fine,
svl7
Did you have the same vbios version? If not, do you have a copy of your original vbios?
