Great sounds good i was planning to build a system for cheap this year with a little overclock room but will be delayed awhile. Was gonna do a i5 for my brother like your doing but hes waiting and I cant afford to do the one i was planning now... would of been a 2600k based or an Ivy Bridge unlocked... but may wait till i can go all out and get 3960X like Conkers Looking forward to build progress reports
Founder Brian Posted February 10, 2012 Author Founder Share Posted February 10, 2012 Update: Build is complete! Here's some photos we took today, if time permits I might do a quick review of the case and motherboard but we'll see. For now here's the shots:

Conker
Nice build Brian Seems you had no problems with the components to fit into the case. Good work! What temperatures did you reach (GPU/CPU)? Will you repaste the GPU?

What temperatures did you reach (GPU/CPU)? Will you repaste the GPU? We ran into a problem with the Coolermaster cooler not fitting so we had to use the Intel CPU cooler which sucks really bad. The CPU temps hit 96C under wprime load with the CPU at 3.8 GHz  Also the Asus drivers really suck. I couldn't get his front panel audio to work. Conker
We ran into a problem with the Coolermaster cooler not fitting so we had to use the Intel CPU cooler which sucks really bad. That sucks...can you modify the case so it will fit properly? A friend had a problem with the graphicscard heatpipes, they were too high, he solved it with cutting the plate, which was in the middle of the case. Also the Asus drivers really suck. I couldn't get his front panel audio to work.Did you use the "HD Audio" Connector or the "AC'97" Connector? Can't see it on the picture. The connector on the motherboard seems to be connected as it should be. Did you check the connections on the frontpanel?Did you install the RealtekDriver and the SoundBlaster X-Fi?Asus Support site I use: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support-Directlink to newest Realtek audio driver: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download Audio (watch the version, they're always messed up)SB X-Fi driver (under Utilities): ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download Maximus IV GENE-Z/GEN3LucidVirtu: lucidlogix with GPU Solution Edited February 13, 2012 by Conker
Founder Brian Posted February 14, 2012 Author Founder Share Posted February 14, 2012 Well we are going to RMA the motheboard back to NewEgg. His audio just stopped working, it gives a code 10 for the high definition audio. We've tried everything from reinstalling Windows to clearing the cmos and removing the battery. Nothing seems to fix the problem. Damn the quality control on these Asus motherboards seems to suck.
mw86
if you make a review be sure to mention that... Oh this thread is a great review in itself... Shows most of that kit is good but like you said the Asus company needs a little better quality control.

Jimbo
I've been hearing a few things about ASUS boards recently that make me nervous, was thinking of going with them next build just for a change, not so sure now. EVGA SR-X keeps appearing in my dreams. Nice build Brian - Neat, powerful and compact. Should keep him happy, and if it does start struggling in twelve months it won't be hard to find another 560 and SLI that bad boy.
Founder Brian Posted February 22, 2012 Author Founder Share Posted February 22, 2012 Thanks Jimbo. His replacement motherboard arrives on Thursday, hopefully it doesn't fail again.
