Founder StamatisX Posted February 2, 2012 Founder Share Posted February 2, 2012 I would suggest the 2760, best value/money imo and performance wise it is like stock 2920XM. Other than that I wouldn't change anything.
mw86
i agree with StamatisX the above specs are great. Leave as is except for the processor. If you ever plan to upgrade the cpu then i dont suggest uprgrading that at all like if later you may want 2860qm or something over what you select or if you may want a 2920xm or 2960xm one day save the money for the future upgrade otherwise get the 2760qm...The 120hz screen can be nice and fps and high speed gaming will look like smoother motion not even using 3D... But if $ is limiting factor the 60hz displays are fine i use one on my m18x myself.
svl7
If you have the money, go with the 2860QM, or at the very least the 2760QM, the 2670 is kinda crappy. People with the 2670QM / Killer 1103 Wlan / 580m combo seem to have trouble once in a while... apparently mainly due to the CPU. Also order by phone and talk with the rep, you should be able to get the price down by a couple of hundred bucks.

Well point being i have noticed speed difference gaming dramatically having higher clock speeds so even if just doing a small cpu upgrade it will be noticed over the lowest option. see if you can talk to a rep and get the 2860qm for same price as 2760qm. Let them know you otherwise cant buy the system and need this upgrade. Talking direct to a rep can help you get better price over website price. Its worth talking to someone maybe not give you that good a deal but in the least add a coupon or some kind of savings attached. so im with SvL7 and Stamatis as to how important cpu can be. Founder Brian Posted February 2, 2012 Founder Share Posted February 2, 2012 Get that 120hz screen, its brighter than the 60 hz one and it won't cause screen tearing in games when you exceed 60 fps.
Avocent
Thanks for the great suggestions. I changed the screen to the 120Ghz vs the 60GhzI also changed to the <input id="item_32" name="oc_1" value="30875_150.00_n" type="radio"><label for="item_32">Intel® Core™ i7-2760QM (2.4~3.5GHz) w/6M L3 Cache - 4 Cores - 8 ThreadsThe price gets much harder to justify after this processor.</label>Now to cross my fingers that everything works out right. Thanks guys.
Founder Michael Posted February 2, 2012 Founder Share Posted February 2, 2012 good luck! and as svl7 mentioned, definitely call in and ask for a discount.
Avocent
good luck! and as svl7 mentioned, definitely call in and ask for a discount. Thanks and Thanks SVl7, apparently I qualify for a number of discounts, and I am getting much better pricing than on the web. The only hangup now is they charged me a restocking fee, I never saw it on there website and the returns guy never mentioned it to me so I had to call returns and raise holy hell about it. They finally agreed to credit me back the restocking fee so I should be pulling the trigger tomorrow.
