I haven't tried either of those drivers since I'm currently using my 6990m as a FirePro card ;) But I guess I'm gonna skip the 11.12 and directly go to the preview, unless it turns out to be not as great as expected.

Leave some feedback if you test the new drivers, I'm curious about the improvements.

Just installed the 12.1 drivers, horrible fps in BF3, but I'm not sure whether it's caused by the driver, had this randomly once in a while... Anyone of you guys already tested 12.1 and having similar issues?

  • 4 weeks later...

why would I have issues installing this driver? at some points the download wouldn't even contain a video driver just the CC. I finally settled on the 8.?? that came out in Nov. and they seem to work great for now. I ran Nvidia for years but didn't want optimus so went ATI this time around. Anyone have tips about installin ATI drivers?

Well same here been using ATI for awhile now myself. The advice for trouble installing those drivers and it says alll the normal software in Catalyst Install Manager what you need is the right driver... I found if the driver doesn't have the add in code telling catalyst install manager that the driver is a mobile driver it will not show up in the install manager.

So I found in light of that the Dell official drivers always, always work properly by my experience... The driver always loads and the software.

Now AMD updates it code faster than Dell so sometimes for improved performance we try to load the latest AMD driver offerings... The mobile specific drivers often work without a hitch. The "preview drivers" sometimes are the desktop card driver and are often modded to allow installation on their mobile models. Sometimes key code to allow them to detect mobile cards ends up being missing. That's why one driver you had success and the other not. So try to note if it is mentioned from where you get the driver if it's a beta or preview driver that it has been modded for mobile systems. The mod can be done manually in a config file in the installation file directory, I am not versed on that perhaps someone else can elaborate. But in any case no matter what the Dell drivers always load but may suffer from not being quite as current as the latest and driver offerings. I can tell you the latest version from dell makes my Intel igp work correctly. If you want a more updated driver than dells and newer than the November one I suggest using one in this forum that a member mentioned it already installing and working properly for the card you have the AMD 6900 mobile series. hope that helps SSG... I know we all post a lot of drivers but from many varying sources so it makes it harder to update especially if it's not clearly noted about this mobile modding of preview drivers. Jimbo had 12.1 loading good perhaps use that one? I hope I was able to assist you some how.

In facts SSG the dell one should be from December which isn't very outdated at all.

Sorry for extra post... It was supposed to add to last one and say that added less than 5minutes ago note. -sorry =)
