I have a p150sm which has a seemingly dead 780m due to a perpetual error 43 which came after a big BSOD about 6 months ago. I upgraded the laptop to a 980m and modded the inf files. The upgrade was perfectly fine for a week. One day, i left the laptop and something related to sleep or power may have caused the laptop to shut off. Since then, the laptop with the 980m won't boot. I tried many things like resetting cmos, taking out the hardware and putting it back in, and resetting bios, and buying a 230W adapter. Nothing worked. The laptop works fine with the old dead 780m in there, but now when the 980m is in there, holding the power button generates a green light flash and then the power LED goes back to orange. No sounds, maybe one tick, and that's it. What is left to try?

Hello all, I am new in this area (eGPU) and have some issues. When I Google my problems, this forum pops out to me. After review some posts, I still cannot figure out my problems, so I decide to register on the site and ask my questions here. Those are my parts: Lenovo Thinkpad x230 with i7-3520M, 16GB RAM, Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 EXP GDC BEAST, Expresscard EVGA 500 W1 80+, 500W Continuous Power, Power Supply Gigabyte GTX 960 Overclocked 4 GB GDDR5 Graphics Card GV-N960WF2OC-4GD My problems are: When I pluged in the Expresscard, the computer can catch the graphics card, and it told me to restart the computer if I want to use it. After I restarted the computer, it worked! The fans on the graphics card spun, and I can see the screen in the external monitor, and it showed me that I was using GTX 960 now. I tried to watch the movie, and it worked well. But the fans on the graphics card stopped spinning. I am not sure it is normal or not, but my computer still worked fine. HOWEVER, when I tried to play the video game, it worked at first. But after about half hour, it would suddenly shut down, then restart the computer. At this time the graphics card did not work, so I have to use the internal LCD. I was trying to re-start the graphics card, but it still did not work and it was a little warm. I have to wait for some time to use the graphics card and the whole kit again. Does anyone know how this happen? It worked for a long time for movie(at least 1.5hrs), but it only worked for 30min for game. I also tried to change in BIOS. Inside "POWER" I think there is "PCI Express Power management", and the default is "enable". I tried to change it into "disable", but the result is still the same. I tried this change because I thought this is referred to "Disable PCIe Power Saving", but I am not sure. Or does anyone know where should I change? I would very much appreciate your help in this case. Thank you in advance! Sammael

Hey tech inferno, I started my eGPU/docking station project a little while ago, using a cooler master elite 120 white as the enclosure, an akitio board, a gtx 970, and a 1tb samsung ssd (for external windows 10). Everything is powered by a 650 watt evga power supply, and the akitio is connected with a soldiered barrel plug to a chopped molex cable. The first time I tested it with a 750ti (before buying a 970) everything just worked. I pugged the thunderbolt in while windows was booted, and installed the latest drivers. The screen flickered, and that was it. Done. Everything worked. Optimus worked flawlessly, external monitor worked flawlessly, frame rates were amazing (for a macbook) and my computer itself stayed cool. I immediately returned my friend's 750ti and bought a 970. Once I got around to installing it I was at college, but it was the same as before. Once I got the computer to recognize the card (in device manager), I installed the drivers, the screen flickered, and everything worked, just faster. I had a blast playing some games that I had been missing while working on the project. For several days I was able to either connect the egpu by plugging it in while the computer was off, turning on the power supply, waiting 15 seconds, and then booting, holding alt, and booting onto my external ssd; or just booting into windows and then hotplugging my egpu. It always worked, and it was better than I ever expected. Then, one day, I came back after class, and nothing worked. No hotplugging, no successful boots, and no accelerated video. Once in a while I could get it to boot, but when it did that it was only because it didnt recognize the card at all, and just used iris pro. Can someone help me get my setup working again? My laptop is the 2015 macbook pro 15" (for which there are few guides). I'm hoping someone else has overcome this problem. I have tried reinstalling drivers, but it no longer freezes the screen and works, it instead requires me to restart, and when I do, it breaks. Major karma to anyone who helps me out. I can put pictures (or video of boot failures) if someone wants me to. thanks! -Hunter

Guys, I have this really annoying random problem since day one. I've only seen it happen on a simple windows reboot. Both 8.1 and 10. It never happened on power on, just normal windows reboot. I get this "Reboot and select proper boot device" and I only need to ctrl+alt+del and it will then reboot and boot just fine. My boot device is a samsung xp941 m.2 pcie ssd. I think I have tried all possible settings regarding boot to make this happen consistently but I cannot. It is completely random. This time I had the only exception. After my typical ctrl+alt+del the laptop shutdown and the power led started blinking. Pressed power and I went straight to bios setup because I've been trying to track what triggers that intel icc library failed to initialize. I know that if intel smart connect is enabled, windows will not boot giving acpi_bios_error and intel icc will give that message. This time though, intel smart connect was disabled. I never had any kind of bsod while in windows nor data loss, nothing, so I think I can rule out the pcie ssd. Any ideas ??? I have experienced this "Reboot and select proper boot device" with both stock and prema bios. EDIT: I manage to make it shutdown again , power led blinking , with ctrl+alt+del , I booted straight to bios but noticed intel me fw was 0.0.0.0 and intel icc gave the library error. I presume it's linked ? I never paid attention if intel me was 0.0.0.0 before . EDIT2: I made a video some days ago when I found that intel smart connect makes windows not boot and intel me fw is 0.0.0.0 on it. I already upgraded to premas latest ME fw. Intel smart connect enabled still makes windows unbootable and after reboot intel ME is 0.0.0.0 Thank you.

Hi, my M15x seems dead for no obvious reasons, simply one day worked, the other day not. No liquid inside. Battery is very old so I use notebook without it. The symptoms are that it does almost nothing. When I press power button, nothing happens. Sometimes, when I hold the power button, it blinks twice (the power button only). After some checks I suspected the motherboard so I bought a new one from ebay, reinstalled everything but it behaves the same. It could be faulty too but the probability to have two motherboards with the same issue is very little. I tried to run it without RAMs, with different AC adapter, no change. Now I'm guessing that the CPU could be dead. But don't want to waste another money just like that so I hope someone from you, experts, could face the same earlier and I can learn from it. Do you know how M15x behaves when CPU is completely removed? And what if GPU is removed? This could help me to isolate the origin of problem. Thanks, Martin

Hello techinferno-team, I decided to finally register on the site and in this forums as I have read a lot about eGPU implementations and actually tried to accomplish one by my self. Those are my parts: Lenovo Thinkpad t430 with i5 3320M, 8GB DC RAM, 160GB SSD, Intel HD4000 EXP GDC BEAST, Expresscard bequiet! 450 Watt PSU Windows 10 64bit. So far, so good - but it just won't work. Everytime I boot my Laptop up with eGPU connected, it loads the Windows 10 screen with the blue logo on it. After app. 2 minutes a little circle spins around, suggesting the PC is loading the OS. I waited to hours, the screen remained the same. Then I tried booting Windows up, then instering the eGPU. That does not work either, as the card is not recognized. I tried putting laptop to sleep, plugging eGPU in, then waking it from sleep. It just turns off. I also tried powering the PSU of the eGPU on when the windows logo appears, but the card is not recognized and the fan of the GTX670 spins like crazy. First time this appeared I almost thought I bricked the card. Then I tried another thing: I used the egpu with my old Thinkpad t500 on windows 7. I plugged it in, booted up, installed drivers, done. It works. So the eGPU components should work fine., I I am absolutely at loss here. What can I do to get this thing working? I have read like every article about eGPUs on T430 and on Windows10... But it just won't work. I would very much appreciate your help in this case; furthermore I hope this is the right place to post this in. If not, I apologize - this is my first post. I am not a native speaker, so if you do not understand something in my text feel free to ask, I will do my best. Thank you so much! daku I tried every setting advised in the existing troubleshooting guides at least twice, none of them worked.

Today I was trying to revert my Alienware's Nvidia 460m card back to the A04 bios to remove the downclocking functionality. After I reverted the bios, I changed some of the settings in the f12 boot menu, mainly the gpu throttle temp (which I thought it wouldn't have) and made a few other tweaks which i don't remember. After it restarted, the display lit up but only gives me a black screen. I can hear the fans begin to start, but the stop and restart every second, after a few seconds I can hear a clicking noise after the fans start each time. I removed the computer and system batteries and heldthe power button for 30 seconds before rebooting but it didn't help, I've also tried to blind flash the bios but to no avail (though I'm not sure the flashdrive I'm using will work for a blind flash). Does anyone know what's wrong or have anything I can try? Recap of Symptoms - Black Screen - Fans start and stop - Clicking noise
