  1. Dear comunity, I have been modding and unlocking bios options on AMI and Insyde H2o bioses for almost a decade now, modified gpu bioses, EC firmwares and what not, but I never got to add support for new GPU in a laptops Bios - never found any information about it either. If anyone is kind enough to please point me in the right direction or pm me what is needed. I manage quite well with uefi tools ami tools as well with hxd editors and such. The bios in the link is the one that I want to add the support to. It is for a Clevo P775DM3-G And I want to add the rtx 2080 support- Ii came officially with an I7 7 gen and a gtx 1080. I have modded it and upgraded to 8700k and it can go up to 9900k/f/s but would not do so because of the heat. In any case I am currently running a bios that I "remoded" to look more official - readded the serial numbers that were lost by the prev. owner- found them on the mainboard, changed back the splash screen, and remooved the modders signatures but it seems to be based on an older bios version of this laptop, whereas I would like to add the rtx support to the one in the link, and I would be more or less - almost official. (As a bonus I've dremmeled out a tiny piece beneath the keyboard to get better access to the bios chip - where I actually added a socket to the mainboard to be able to take the chip out at any time. I have also mooved the bios battery from under the keyboard to the other side of the laptop, in the orifice beneath the main battery - for easier access in case if bios resets are needed- as the cmos reset from the keyboard combo does not seem to work. Any help is wellcome. Thank you all in advance. BagZ https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dLXTmGXTfKUIlC8lQuRIJ504DAjyt2os/view?usp=share_link
  2. Hello @Leomm, the problem that you must have either a vbios problem or a bios problem /bug, maybe also a driver issue, open nvidia settings and select the optimus gpu as the main gpu. It could also be the vbios. I think that the 980m card that you have has the non optimus vbios and probably does not quite support optimus . A vbios reflash should fix the problem. You could also run nvidia mods or mats tests to check if the rams are ok on the card. ( more about that online) That is the reason that I have sold my Alienware, lack of support, future proofing and somewhat intentional restrictions from their behalf - i love the designs, and the m18xr2 is in my opinion still one of the nicest laptops ever built, next to the gt80 titan and the 21 inch curved acer laptop. When you have a premium kind of device, the main problem is that not many can afford them, therefore not a huge community; the second problem is that, when you have paid an arm and a leg for a device, you don't risk damaging your device by modding stuff. I am now rocking A Clevo p775DM3-G (775tm1 cooling mod) with an 8700k 8x4.6 Ghz and an RTX 2080 8GB paired with 4x 8GB samsung ddr4 2400 MHz. I took a bios and moded it to support up to 9900k -but I would never use it - it runs way to hot. I can play everything above 60FPS full hd with all settings on ULTRA and Ultra+. Given for the DLSS tech - it is safe to say that maybe the device will still work for a couple of years. Run the MATS and Mods tests and tell me what happened.
  3. Hello World, to sum up my current project, well I have replaced my good ol' Alien to an XMG p775DM3-G, it runs on a 8700k and I have installed an RTX 2080. The laptop works great, the CPU has been delidded, liquid metalled and lapped, and the GPU is currently being used with mx4 - no liquid metall for now. Cpu runs daily OC'ed at 4700Mhz on all cores and it reaches arround 82°C under power hungry benchmarks. The Gpu has never gotten over 74°C even in a silent fan curve. The monitor is a Gsink 75HZ but I've been running it OC'ed @100 Hz for the past month without any issues. I can actually go up to 110 Hz but I could not notice any differences, therefore I'd rather run it at a lower rate. As I had some liquid cooling leftovers in my trunk of future projects, I am now trying build a custom liquid cooling unit, an attachment if may to the cooling of the laptop that would not need much modding and provide with a substantial decrease in fan noise, and if possible, maybe a bit of headroom for overclocking. I have two options as you may hopefully see in the attached photo, but I prefere the first option as it implies less risks and should be easier to apply and to mentain. Up untill now I have the externa cooling module built, A 3 wire pwm DC(kida) pump, a corsair 12'' PWM Fan, a 12'' Aluminum radiator, some tubing and all of it will be controlled either via the Thermaltake Commander FT - via touch manually, or I may ad a usb connection to use it with the NZXT CAM unit - as RGB would also be a nice addition. As I am looking for ideeas to improove on the project, any suggestions are wellcome.
  4. Hello World, as my M18x R2 was starting to feel kind of old, I felt it was time for it to go. As I am not a fan of the Optimus technology, I felt that the 3920xm and the GTX 980 ( non M -Msi version) were the last mile - upgrade wise - it still felt good but not great for new titles in the 1080p high / ultra settings. I went online researching for what would be my next 2-3 years upgradable device, and got my eyes on the p775dm3-G. Awsome machine - big fat fans, copper heatsinks, nice design. I found one with a 8700k - with a modded bios - and made an offer - got it for cheap i'd say. I went for this one as I had a gtx 1080 that yould fit this device. The only problem that I have is that with the 1070 installed the laptop is working, but with the 1080, it starts normaly, but I can't see a thing. Windows loads - no post at all, and I get only a black screen with a backlight - I hear the windows sounds. As I belive that this device is a Gsync version - I belive that the GPU has a non gsync bios on it - or maybe a hybrid / optimus vbios - dunno. I tried to do a blind flash - but I can't see what the problem is - protect off worked, backup worked - the bios currently on the gpu is the 86.04.80.00.24. I was wondering if anyone could maybe provide me with some info - as I am new to this. A bios dump made with an spi programmer would be even more helpful. Thank you in advance for your help. Best regards, Bagster.
  5. Yeah, so I gave up on the project, as I got to help someone else with the motherboard. In each case I have recently fixed an EN 1080k that seemed to have the same problem. It had a burned cap. CPU+ GPU were fine. The waterloop liquid is trash in these things - not the design but the material, I don't know what the used, but I opened both heatsinks and the pump, as well as the small overflow container and cleaned allot of gunk out. I used the same liquid that I have in my custom loop, that lasted me for 2 years without any corrosion or deposits. I also had to reseal the gaskets with some black silicone - that goes up to 300 celssius. The temps were about 92 and 95 in GPUZ (burn in test -sort of) before cleaning. After cleaning and refilling, I ran the unigine superposition on the 1080 extreme setting and never got above 50 C and all this in the silent mode. I gave this one to my brother, he plays fifa 22 in 4k all on ultra with a 60 fps cap and did not get over 56 C. It performes great. and for 1080P games, the tiny thing is still a beast. Best regards - Bagster
  6. Well, some time has passed and I got a new project on my hands. As mentioned in the title, I got for cheap a defective MB with the Liquid cooling modules on E-bay of a ZOTAC Magnus EN980. The MB had a dead short, but I took care of that. I had an i5 7600 in a box somewhere and gave it a shot, but I get no post. Took out the bios chip, modded the bios to add support for Kaby lake, but i can´t get it to post. I get fan spin and everything else. If I take the ram out, I get like 10 beeps ---???? and after that three more - suggesting the missing RAM. I want to install a clevo gtx 1070 mxm or am 1080 mxm that I currently only use for experiments. (btw if anyone has an SPI dump of the Vbios - of a CLEVO 1070 I might need a copy) . Any kind of assistance would be helpful. I am next going to update the GOP and GOP_VBT drivers - but, it seems that the original bios has an added bonus, one additional Vbios module - what I think it has to do with the mxm module switch thing. Feel free to comment.
  7. At least you got the drivers to install, I did not, the problem is that there are some missing components and bios differences from P6 to P5000 . The spi dump of the P6 vbios is almost 2 mb if I'm not mistaken. I did not find an spi flash dump of the P5K to compare them, but I do not belive that the vbios of the P6 allows direct 3D redering or at least it has to be switched on. It is a strange card, Nvidia took their time to block stuff out compared to the 980m and the M5KM. I was really eager to get some photos of thenmissing components on the P6 so that I may solder them on, but did not recieve nor have I found any. And I've searched all the sites that had pictures of the card, or that had it up for sale. I gave up and ended up selling the card.
  8. Hello @Meoleo91, Sorry for the delayed response. I did not try it on the alienware, but I got the chance to test it on a MSI gt72. The good part is, that the laptop boots up. the card is being recognized under linux as being a p6, and i can install the drivers, but can't control the gpu and i get no nvidia crtl panel. Under windows 10 it throws an error under device manager, but with a bit of modding of the inf file I kinda installed the quadro p5000m drivers, via nvclean install, i got the card to get halfway recognized under gpu z, but i can not enter the nvidia dispaly adapter settings or anything else, and optimus does not work. I have to mention that I have not hard modded the card yet, because I do not seem to find a good quality picture of a quadro p5000m to see what are the missing components. and there are a few. I could solder them with no pb. but I need a bit of help from all other users. I do not know if the gpu id is hard modded on a chip level or on a components level, but I tend to belive that the missing components are the difference and the bios. The Vbios on the tesla has 512K, and the one on the quadro only 256k. I could, without an issue, flash the bios of the quadro on the tesla via spi programmer, but as long as I don't have the needed pictures, it would be in vain. So please, if you know any other useres that might have this card on hand and are willing to take some high quality photos of the lower part of it, front and back, and send them to me I would much apreciate it. Thank you for your help and interest in my small project, and sorry again for the late response. Best Regards. Bagster
  9. Ok, so I have recieved the card, inspected every little solder pad and it seems that compared to the gtx 1070 mxm and the Quadro P5000m, there is a slight difference, meaning that some small ic chips are missing. Therefore if anyone should have a high quality photo of the card, the lower part close to the mxm pins, front and back, where I could read the codes on the IC chips, that would be really helpfull. I am getting a defective Clevo gtx 1070m next week, and might be able to identify some components but just want to double check. Will keep you up to date. Cheers!
  10. Hello @apox try using nv-cleaninstall from techpowerupm, https://www.techpowerup.com/download/techpowerup-nvcleanstall/ . it is allot easier and it does all the modding for you. Just follow the steps. Good Luck.
  11. Hello world... I was wondering if anyone tried to install a tesla p6 mxm gpu in a laptop. I am looking to doing this - modification- not quite an upgrade - because I will have to accept optimus - if it will work - nvidia states there is no optimus support, as well as no video output - but I am optimistic - i will try the flash a hex modified bios of a p5000 on it - via spi flasher and see if it will do the trick - the specs and the card itself seem to be identical... but I was just wondering if anyone did this before.
  12. Hy , I am using PEG...( I am not a fan of hybrid graphics that is why I did not go for the gtx1070). I think that it is either a bad voltage regulator , a small ceramic capacitor or a zener diode on the 19 v rail that has gone bad and is leekeing some voltage to ground. Will be testing on the weekend. Hote to find the culprit. Still, Tlthank you for your interest and help buddy. Have a good one.
  13. Hello @Mattyb, I know there was lots of info , but yeah... I jus felt inspired... well I got the HDD flex on ebay, got it for like 30 bucks from China. I am happy with the upgrade, but I seem to have a problem with the power supply for the mxm - I have two PSU bricks both good but keep getting only 18.7 volts in idle and about 17.6 in bechmarks... forcing the GPU into power throttle. I think that the bios that I have might be bad.
  14. Hello guys, I seem to have the following problem. According to GPUZ my MXM slot will not get more than 18.7 -18.8 volts, during games it drops as low as 17.7 volts causing my GPU to power throttle. I have two 330 watt PSUs - and both are known good power bricks - I get the same symptoms with each of those. I have looked inside of the laptop checked all of the mosfets - none has visible damage. Could this be due to a corrupted bios or better yet because of the EC firmware being `unknown` in bios? Any help and new ideas are welcome. Thank you in advance.
  15. Three months ago, I got an amazing deal on ebay for an AW m18x R2 , that was supposedly defective - 3 beeps error. Had never heard of this model because I was still blindly living in my MSI world. Since my GT70 was on his way to electro-heaven - I went for it. The laptop arrived - it had no ram - not gpu and no cpu - the HDD flex cable was also missing- as well as the psu - and some more surprises that I found out along. Upon powering on I was greeted by three cheerful beeps - and powered off. It took me at most 1 minute to fix the mainboard by reprogramming the bios using an EEProm programmer. But the beeps revealed another problem - the speakers were cooked as well. I have then dissasembled the laptop... inspected and cleaned everything thoroughly till the last screw and made a list with what I needed, most of the missing parts were scvanged out of my MSI -a 3920xm CPU 2x8 GB Hynix ddr3 ram the gpu- at the time I had a gtx 970m and the speakers were transplanted into the housing of the old ones. I´ve reasembled the laptop - to see if my flash was successfull and inded it had worked. At fisrt the gpu was not being detected but as I found out, I needed to upgrade to an ulocked bios - done that also and it worked like a charm. The psu that I had, was only rated for 240 watts but i managed to find a 330 watt clevo psu on ebay that had a knicked cable - I have replaced the cable and bought myself some id - PSU chips from china installed and boom - recognized in bios and working as it should. I had an mSata ssd lying arround so gave it a go. No BSOD no nothing - ran some benches - did some OCs to see if everything was fine - and it went well. I have decided to keep the laptop as my daily driver - so i've decided to buy the flex sata cable and to replace the palm rest - that had a gooey feeling to it because of the altered rubber paint that dell uses on those thinngs - i got a brand new one for cheap from china also. The cherry on top is that I wanted to see how far could I take the laptop - gpu upgrade wise - without using the optimus technology - a thing that I find unnecessary on such a build. So i ``went`` yet againg shopping in china - and found myself a gty 980 non m non gsync - out of an 18 inch MSI GT80 I think. The card arrived - but there were some issues - first of all the card would not fit in the mxm socket - and seemed to also kinda bump in one of the white connectors on the mainboard - the one for the shift and caps lock leds - i tooke care of that with a small nail clipper and a file - just remooved half of it and it still work lai a charm and the card fits on that side also. The toughest part was that I had to pull out the metallic pins out of the mxm slot, the ones that `Lock` the card into it - left and right , and also file down a small piece of plastic off of the right side of the slot itself - where one of those pins were. The card now fits and is held in snug by the two screws on the motherboard. The heatsink that the laptop came with was only rated for 75 watts heat dissipation - so i sold that and got myself an all copper gpu heatsink. It keeps the card in the low 80s C in gaming - with the standard fan curve - while using mx4. I am looking forward to lapping the heatsink and also applying som LMe to see how far below I can take it - all this weekend. The bios that the card came with only allowed me to run it in optimus - i know- the irony - but after trying different bios versions i found one that runs in PEG mode also - the power table is set alot lower compared to the bios that the card came with but I consider that haveing a headroom for future ideeas. The gpu works like a charm - and it beats up the 970m and 980m by far. I did some overclocking - got to 1320MHz on the core and undervolted with -,75mv on all of the voltage tables. I still seem to have allot of headroom, but the psu does not seem to be that good - because according to GPUZ - the voltage dropps to 17.8V so it starts to powert hrottle. Abut does not go lower than 1240MHz - bios mod :). The ram chips Curently i am trying to extract the hex table from a desktop gpu - out of the bios - the one responsible fo the fan curve - and hopefuly insert it in to the laptop counterpart. - Wish me luck.
  16. I have successfully transplanted the id chip from a delta dell psu - 240 watt in a delta clevo psu 330 watt - you will also have to transplant the small resistor next to the id chip as well. I have also changed the power jack to fit my awR18x2. Works like a charm but it still reports in bios as being a 240 watt. Does anyone know how to change this... i mean does anyone have a backup of the rom for a 330 watt so that I may reprogram a one wire chip. Thanks!
  17. I am using a custom unlocked vbios that i've had unlocked back on my msi gt70 and it seems to work. I would strongly suggest trying to install the unlocked bios on your m18xr2 and try with that. Also try to boot with hdmi connected. If the lines still appear it is either a vbios/driver/ monitor chain issue. Worst case scenario it could be a bad GPU. Hope for the best. Pm me your email so that i may send you stuff.
  18. Thank you anyway, i will dig deeper -- maybe i´ll try reflashing the old vbios using the gt70... who knows.
  19. Hello @Klem I was wondering if you could shed some light over a problem. I have an M18x R2 and installed a 980m - the unlocked vbios version which I had in my GT70. It is the Clevo version- but I had hex-eddited the subsystem id to recognize it as an MSI so that i may install the gpu drivers plug and play. Installing the drivers via NV clean worked as a charm, it wa srecognized as an MSIcard by gpuz - it benches good and all in all but i have found a vbios for the sli versions on the dell site, and flashed the one for gpu 1- Master and it changed my subid to a dell one but not one that would allow me to install the drivers without the inf mod. I have tried since more than 15 versions of nvFlash in Windows - as well as in Linux and I have also reprogrammed the vbios using a chip programmer - desolder - flash-resolder - but still it allocates the same subsystem id -- i do not understand why?
  20. Hello @numecont is your _Nvidia GPU being detected in bios ?
  21. Hello @Leomm try to use ''NV Clean Install'' - you will find it if you google it. That is a helpful program that mods the drivers and it installs them for you, no hussel with inf modding. Please use that and tell me what happened. Normally, due to your GPU vbios, as I can see - according to the subsystem id - the drivers should work Plug&Play. What bios is your system running? Hope it helps. And for the throttling problem -- go to bios -- activate the IGPU-- save -- login to windows -- restart-- deactivate igpu and set to peg -- and also always peg on -- if your are running the (A11 unlocked bios) save and reboot. If all of that will not work then the vbios might be corrupted, i will give you a different one if you want maybe that will work. Best Regards.
  22. Hello @Klem, could you please help me unlock / mod this Vbios for the MSI 970m. Thank you in advance. https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/166206/msi-gtx970m-6144-140904
  23. Does anyone know where is it located on the mobo ?
