What music are you listening to right now?
Stevenxowens792 replied to StamatisX's topic in Off Topic
Vinnie Moore is old school guitar stuff when i was a kid. Like Tony McAlpine or old Steve Vai. -
Let me also explain so that others don't take it the wrong way... The machine should NOT just shut down when you switch to battery and choose to game. Now, our opinions may differ on whether I think full power gaming on battery should be enabled as you wont get more than about 20-25 minutes at best. Maybe 30... But with moderated cpu and gpu power you should be able to game over an hour. That's a good trade off in my book. It will be very interesting to see what the alienware engineers find and choose to do about the issue. StevenX

Cheers TitanGod! Hope everything goes well with the Alienware engineers. Keep us posted and let me know if I can help. My "guess" is that dell/alienware will setup some type of "battery" detection in bios that will auto downclock and lower the voltage for cpu and gpu. Again just a guess...

Whats your WEI score on the M14x?
Stevenxowens792 replied to TitanGod's topic in Alienware M14x / AW 14
Arklight - I think if you set nvidia global settings to NVIDIA then it gets the higher score. (that's a big I THINK). My score is 5.9 as well as I am all over the place with settings changes and tests and updates.- 7 replies

On my post it says as long as they give me credit it's ok with me. They have to come to this site to read the fix. The response from a member at NBR is something like we want gaming on full power. And again.. my response is.. ok, you can game for 20 minutes on full power.. so why would you want that? Why not game at medium power for an hour or more.

Alienware M14X / AW14 Gaming Discussion Thread

Bring Benchmark - Mission 3, online coop Settings - All High, All options enabled EXCEPT SSAO. This cuts your frames in half. Literally. Not worth it. What I did was create a custom autoexec.cfg to make sure all other options are enabled. AA and AF enabled. Looks great and smooth as silk. 2011-05-10 23:45:40 - brink Frames: 13671 - Time: 197216ms - Avg: 69.320 - Min: 50 - Max: 108 Custom config adds... seta r_softParticles "1" seta r_useHighQualityPostProcess "1" seta r_useShadowMaps "1" seta r_shadowsHighQuality "1" seta r_useThreadedRenderer "1" seta s_numberOfSpeakers "2" seta s_forceNumberOfSpeakers "2" seta s_enable_voice "1" seta s_enable_mic "1" seta com_machineSpec "2" seta com_allowConsole "1" seta com_videoRam "1797" seta r_multiSamples "1"- 220 replies

The folks in NBR are stomping and wondering why why why you can't game full power on the battery. Im sure that dell can mod the bios so you can. And you will get about 20-25 minutes on full power gaming. Think about it this way... 45-47w for cpu. Another 45 to 50w for gpu. So the battery needs to output about 100 watts not including the LCD. Nope... not gonna last long. Like I said before, I can game on full power without overclocking for about 20 minutes on the m15x. I guess that's one MP match of BFBC2 if it goes smoothly. Being able to game for over an hour at medium power is pretty good in my book. I had turbo enabled and high power gpu and couldn't game. I then lowered the gpu to balanced with turbo enabled and I couldn't game. I changed it to my settings above and I can game fine. StevenX

Thanks Uncle Ben. And yes, I understand your point of view.

The only thing is... I think sometimes folks get tired of the "StevenX" opinion and have a real desire to hear from others... Truthfully I don't blame them. Getting a variety of thoughts, ideas, opinions (even when they are drastically different from yours) can help shed light on issues. My opinion has always been as follows.. (which is much different than I was raised due to my Marine Step Father). If I ask you, any of you to give me the number 10 with two numbers, some of you might say, easy... 10 and Zero, or 5 and 5 or 1 and 9. Others might be even more creative and say 1000 minus 990. The point is that most of the time their is many different ways to resolve a problem or provide an answer. It's not my personality to stifle creative solutions or assume that MY WAY is the best. So when it comes to moderation, It's not my style to say MY WAY or the HIGHWAY. It's more like Let me hear your thoughts, and hear are my thoughts, what can we do to provide value to everyone. If this sounds like something that fits the T/I mentality then let me know. Thanks again to everyone. StevenX

Arklight - I just have the standard alienware orion backpack. It fits about everything including the old m17, the m15x and the m14x. I purchased an aftermarket rain cover at REI in case i needed it. My personal opinion is to ride the line between comfort, weight and storage. What are you leaning towards? Thanks, StevenX

I will say this.. I do want my status changed from MEMBER to BANNED. That's a certainty!

I appreciate the vote Arklight, however this could be a great opportunity to allow someone who has never moderated before the chance. Back in the old days I used to moderate for superhonda.com when import cars were popular and I had 2 honda civic si's (2k EBPSI's) that I raced. But.. if nobody steps up and wants the job I will be happy to talk with Brian.

And thanks everyone for your likes, rep and feedback. It's certainly appreciated.

Ark- only disable the icon itself on the start bar. Don't actually uninstall the driver itself. Dont you have a SSD? You certainly want it if you have a SSD. But i remove mine all the time as I hate having that extra icon on my bar. Best Wishes, StevenX -
