  1. Discussion has pretty much been settled... Until I see an X7200 beating some big OC M18X numbers, I say performance is probably on the side of the Alien in 3dm11 due to the high frequency the sandy chips can achieve. Is the X7200 even available?
  2. @Conker It deserves to be posted at least once per page, if not twice.
  3. For anyone that loves the vehicles...
  4. ^That's why I don't like MX-4, can't be bothered repasting so often. Thanks for the pic, I just looked up that duster, must have one!
  5. Try disabling turbo and tell me that again. Vantage is notorious for CPU score affecting GPU score.
  6. The ES is fantastic, it's just the issue of keeping it cool! I wish there was more aftermarket cooling support for laptops, I think for poplular models the market is there for something that is truly superior. @mw86 was able to get his wprime scores within a few tenths of my watercooled 2600k running at 5.3ghz, the 2920 is a total beast.
  7. Hi Xonar, nice to meet you mate. I'm one of the crazy desktop guys here, though I have dabbled in notebooks also. Anyone who is willing to share info and be friendly is more than welcome here in my opinion, it's a high quality forum that is headed nowhere but up, especially with our ability to draw in knowledgeable people such as yourself. With the level of talent we have, along with such a great team of mods (except for Brian, that guy's a prick ), I see more new members and more defections in our future. Most of the grumbling about NBR is due, I think, to the memories of what it used to be and could have been. Some of our members were treated atrociously in what I can only hope are rare instances (though evidence may suggest otherwise). I wish them luck, but now we're going to be giving them some serious competition. Who knows what the notebook forum landscape will look like in a few years time? J
  8. I've found using this completely dissolves it, then I can just dab it up. No scratches on the die. Arctic Silver ArctiClean (60ml Kit) [AS-ACN-60ml] - $9.50 : PC Case Gear
  9. Oh, now that one I tried, no luck reviving my 580. It sure was fun though! If I had truly critical data on a HDD, I would take it to an expert. More random stuff, I might try freezing.
  10. Saw number. Jaw dropped.... Vantage. J/k man, nice score.
  11. That's why I still have my 2630 sitting around, just in case I need warranty. Or to sell with so I can keep the ES. Hope Frank_L doesn't read this.
  12. If it's a sandforce SSD I still suspect it. Do you have any other drives you could try?
  13. Well, I can definitely help with one issue. The flashing keyboard in BF3 is indeed the game taking control of your AlienFX, it's supposed to help with immersion, spotting incoming fire etc. It freaked me out the first time I saw it also. From what I could garner from the thread this seems unlikely, but whenever someone has repeating BSOD I wonder about their boot drive. Some sandforce based SSDs have had serious BSOD issues, including my vertex 3 MI that died from it. If you are running a sandforce SSD you need to make sure you're running the latest firmware.
  14. Will an M18X PSU work for you? I happen to have a spare one.
  15. I'll test them for you! Just send the pair to me and I'll keep them for a reasonable period of time (18-24 months or until something better comes out). Then, as a bonus to you, I'll pay return shipping. :D
  16. Something is definitely up, this is the score @widezu69 put in the charts - http://forum.techinferno.com/attachments/alienware-m17x/2370d1316477565-capture.jpg Given your better CPU score, you should have been lineball or slightly ahead.
  17. I think you would be well served by SLI with 4gb VRAM 680s, waterblocks would be no problem..... Going from dual MARS II to a single 670 is..... Slightly criminal.
  18. You know what it equals? Fuck you, that's what.
  19. Don't know if this will help, but I had exactly the same issue with BF3 on my M18X with a 2920xm. I found a suggestion of disabling hyperthreading, which fixed the problem instantly (Though it effectively made my awesome chip an i5). After I did an OS reinstall with everything fresh, the problem disappeared for good and didn't return when I reactivated hyperthreading.
