  1. I don't have an m15x (and likely never will) but +rep, that is an amazing effort.
  2. I think it depends on your size and preference... I already carry a backpack everywhere, and I weigh ~140kg (310lb). TBH there isn't a laptop on the market that isn't easily portable to me. I look at most 22" desktop monitors and think they would make good laptop monitors.
  3. Intel’s fastest quad core Sandy bridge mobile part is called Core i7 2920XM and this is a 2.5GHz clocked notebook quad core with eight threads. This 32nm CPU has 8MB of cache and graphics running at 650MHz and when necessary, it will turbo to 1300MHz. The CPU itself can turbo to 3.5GHz, which is pretty nice for a mobile quad core. The bad thing is the 55W TDP, which practically translates to hot lap. Of course these CPUs usually land in 17'' gaming notebooks as they can benefit from quad cores and eight threads. According to Intel’s current plan, this CPU remains the fastest one until at least Q4 2011 and it leaves an option for potential update in Q4 2011. One thing is for certain - this generation gets replaced with Ivy Bridge in first half of 2012, most likely already in Q1 2012 but we cannot confirm this now. The price of this CPU remains unchanged at $1096.00 apiece, at least until something faster comes out. Source Would have posted in news, but apparently not allowed LOL
  4. They're available fairly cheap on e-bay, I'd skip it and go for warranty, you can always throw one in later.
  5. Asking for a mate - -13-14 inches -at least 3-4 hours battery life at max load -must have optical drive -either mac or windows (hasn't decided yet) -reasonable hard drive space 320gb+ -wifi-bluetooth-hdmi the usual gear -nothing over $1600AU (bought from US must be under $1200USD)
  6. Shin-Etsu is the devils faecal matter! I nearly went insane repasting for a mate who bought a tube of it, swore that I'd never use it again, don't give a flying f$%k how much it lowers the temps. I've heard that the indigo extreme metal pad thingys are a prick to get right, never tried myself.
  7. What pisses me off is that after years of firefox being rock-solid, they release ff 4 and suddenly I'm getting random browser crashes. I'd never even seen that little screen untill 4 launched (I'm still using 3.6).
  8. Tick every hardware option and it hits 8.5k
  9. Well, anyone that shows up is welcome to a couch
  10. LOL Does anyone actually have one of these yet? I'm interested in an end user review or two.
  11. I really, really hope so It could also explain the top graphics choice being $900 extra. And hopefully provide a clear-cut performance leader (for now).
  12. Hi GabrielZ, welcome to the forums As for ordering, no, it's not available yet. It's supposed to launch sometime in May, so I don't like your chances of seeing one close to your birthday...
  13. Welcome Astara, nice to have another Aussie. Ashtefere - Now that's more like it! Maybe $900 is for dual 485's (at dell prices, it could be....).
  14. LOL, yeah, if it's 8k I doubt they'll sell many. If I do get one it'll almost certainly come from the states. And I still say it beats the x7200.
  15. I guess I'm just saying that for me ~$3200 with CFX 6970 is cheaper than x7200, faster than p170, and has many other features I want that they lack such as - backlit keyboard/4 row numpad/alloy chassis/HDMI in etc etc. I totally agree that $900 extra for 6970 is crazy, just not that the combination is as ridiculously overpriced as some feel. And also, these are not final prices. We can live in hope that someone screwed up/had some strange reason to provoke forum rage
  16. Yes, agreed there, the upgrades are insanely priced, especially the 6970 CFX setup. Also, having to pay for a sound upgrade, it may only be $20 but FFS couldn't it be included on a $2000 laptop?
  17. Definitely. But the base price seems relatively reasonable to me. And we don't have any real idea if this is all 100% correct until it actually launches.
  18. Ok, so the upgrades cost too much, but the base price seems ok to me at this point. The m17xr3 is $2999 here and any decent x7200 spec is $4000+ Also, the sandybridge mobile chips are blazing fast, I'm not sure an x7200 with a quad core 960 would actually be quicker. So in summary, If (when it actually launches) I can get 6970/485, 2720 + the other small misc things that should be included, shipped to me for less than $4000 it's potentially worthwhile. Plus, didn't they state $1999 base price at the launch? So what's so bad about $2019?
  19. Not so much available as has popped up on the configuration page then disappeared. I don't think it's actually out anywhere, anyone else correct me if I'm wrong.
  20. Sorry guys, posted in the wrong thread & can't seem to find delete post option. That's awesome about 6970 + m15x working though!
  21. Is there any hope of an update for the 485 anytime soon? They've been out for what, like 5-6 months already?
