  1. I had exactly that problem with the M18X backpack, they're total crap. Personally I use and highly recommend an Everki Titan, It's now holding my 17" clevo snug as a bug. Great pack, features, not tooo expensive, built like a tank - but it's BIG. Try to check one out in person before deciding, it may be more than you need. That said, if you're the type of guy who carries the world on his back with him, you'll absolutely love it.
  2. Nobody can tell you exactly what your GPU is capable of, though they may be able to set some guidelines. Overclocking is always a process of seeing what the particular CPU/GPU/RAM you have is capable of, that's half the fun!
  3. Again, thanks for the idea, but the P370EM is W-A-Y easier to work on than an M18X, once the heatsink is back on it's literally click on the backplate and add 4 screws (or not for testing). It's one of the big plus points I've noticed so far.
  4. Y'know, I didn't actually check the pads all that much, there were several of them though. I'm planning to try a copper shim so I'll go over them at that point and double check, assuming I can find a pic somewhere to compare it to. All the screws are tight, though they seemed to just nip tight instantly, there wasn't really any feeling of adding pressure - which is why I want to try the shim. I used arcticlean on the die and the heatsink, they were as clean as I can make them before I started. Thanks for the suggestions.
  5. You're going to love desktops. ALL THAT FREE SPACE!
  6. Prema mate, you are the MAN! Thanks very much, I will download that ASAP and let you know how it goes. I'll definitely send you some coffee money. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
  7. Thanks mate, I'll look into it. No beer?
  8. Thanks, I'm definitely going to try that, inadvisable as it may be. Do you by any chance know what the latest Sager BIOS that has the fan speed function is? EDIT: And where to get it? None on their website for some reason...
  9. FN + 1 only works with sager versions as far as I can work out. Definitely doesn't work on my clevo/horize. Reseller just got back to me telling me that one card at 70c and the other at 90c at stock clocks is "fairly consistent" and told me not to overclock it because warranty void etc (bite my ballsack). So, problem is squarely in my lap, now I'm going to think seriously about starting to physically mod it for better temps.
  10. Full repaste and GPU 2 is still hitting 90c+, in fact I just did a run with everything @stock and still hit 90c on GPU1, only 70c on GPU0. I'm going to contact my reseller and see what they think.
  11. Thanks guys, will look into mods after I take it apart and repaste the GPUs, I didn't bother yet but should've given the amount of ICD on the CPU (really, it's like they get the stuff for free, which I did BTW, no way I'd pay extra for paste). My first idea is to take a holesaw and cut through the base where the fan intakes are, then cover it with something that'll flow more air. Or I could drill extra holes or something. It just seems like a quite restrictive intake vent. Then there's about 3-4mm between the plastic and the fan itself, if I get some foam or something I could force it to just suck air from outside the chassis.
  12. Once I get to +250 card 2 starts hitting 90c+. Unless I can figure out some way to remedy that or get a faster CPU, ~11500 3dM11 is about all I can get.
  13. Sorry for the epic revive, but I just bought one of these and I'm running into the high temps. Just wondering if you have any more info about this, or somewhere to read more? Also, if you're in Melbourne we should catch up for a beer sometime. P.S.: <<<<< I'm nicer than this makes me look.
  14. Many thanks mate, that worked 100%, verified with nvflash and now GPU-Z. I think I'll start at 1ghz.
  15. "nvflash -i[0] -6 vbios.rom" for the first card, that works. "nvflash -i[1] -6 vbios.rom" for the second card, that doesn't. Got it memorised now.
  16. Assuming you mean the "--protectoff" function, I've run that and it says successful, then I reflash, use -h to compare and still get a mismatch.
  17. I'm having a problem with my P370, I've used nvflash before on my desktop (which is also SLI) but on this system I can't seem to make the second card take the flash. I've done it several times to both index locations but GPU1 (secondary) stubbornly refuses to go more than 135mhz extra. Attached GPUz screenshot of both cards in case it helps. Anyone got any advice? I'm very sorry if this has come up in the thread before, I did try searching but couldn't find the tree for the forest.
  18. I think 0.2V is a great idea! Why not 2.0V??? *Can whoever tries it first have a video camera rolling?
  19. Thanks for all the input guys, I've settled on a clevo p370em, after carrying the alien alone without the power brick and my lenovo in the same bag (which equates to clevo + powerbrick) for a week, the difference is stunning. I know the quality isn't quite up the with my beloved alien, but the practicality for my specific needs can't be beaten. Thanks again to everyone that helped out, I will report back on how I find the clevo, and some benchmarks OFC.
  20. I thought the latest drivers had fixed most of the issues with enduro? They were claiming some insane FPS jumps for systems with 7970Ms. I've seen battery life numbers around 8-11hrs, however, seeing as it's not even out yet take that with a pinch of salt.
  21. I've got a friend who is waiting for the new Samsung series 7 chronos, which I believe fits most of your requirements (not sure about the warranty and ugliness is subjective). Series 7 Chronos 770Z5E Specs & Latest News | Samsung | The Verge
  22. I just did an equivalent to networking 101 and I understand, at best, 10% of what you just posted. Just saying.
  23. Problem is, the M18X is just too heavy, and I'm giving up the lenovo to a family member. I have N-O problems with the alienware, it still manages to amaze me every day. If the M18X R2 was 2kg lighter, I would order it without hesitation. The build quality is important to me - but ultimately it comes down to power vs weight...
  24. Does it come with dual GPU? The way I'm seeing the benches currently, the only way to better the 6990 CF-X is with SLI680/CFX7970, I can't go backwards! The precision series appears to be just as expensive as the dual GPU clevo/sager.... LOL @ svl7, I have to carry this thing over a ~2-3km walk everyday, you say lazy but I was a world ranked amateur weightlifter, and I say the shit is too heavy!
