  1. i have tried the 675m in my m15x before. no luck at all, like most threads in related forums state the card couldn't access 3D clocks, so no fun at all playing games. but there seem to be some exceptions, since some ppl say, the 675m runs in their system. personally i wouldn't risk that again. made me send my 675m back and get a amd 7970m (undervolted to 0.950V, clevo with DP not working ). AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel® Core i7 CPU Q 840 @ 1.87GHz,Alienware score: P5599 3DMarks i have read that the 675mx should be running good in a m15x, but i havn't followed such threads. i suggest a 7970m (dell if you can find) or a nvidia 680m. a bit pricy still, but guaranteed (right now up-to-date) gaming power.
  2. 1. not native, but hwinfo does take control (don'T know about dell cards, mxm-upgrade has clevo cards). just configure that (there is a thread about this) and let it start with windows. 2. the mxm-upgrade cards are clevo cards (tho having a flashed dell vbios) and seem NOT to support the DP. i can't and lot's of others can't as well. 3. the gpu clocks go down, when not using e.g. 3D games etc. so yes. 4. if you don't have crazy overclocked your xm cpu, you shouldn't have throttling problems. 5. the mxm-upgrade cards hdo deliver a fitting bracket. maybe ask for screws, those are differen't than the dell ones. since you need a working DP, probably you would be best getting a dell card. i think upgrademoneky has some.
  3. do you have a Clevo or Dell card? and if it's a clevo, did it always work? or just with specific drivers?
  4. geez.. wish this would work someday.. this would make the card perfect!
  5. it really does? does it access P0 state? do you get the 3D clocks to run? did you check this in gpu-z? congrats if it worked! maybe it's the one i sent back, since i paid 250 euros
  6. has anyone of the posters in this thread about not getting their DP to work have success? i just tried to use my extern monitor, but it doesn't detect any signal.. using the DP to hdmi adapter that came with the machine. any hints?
  7. oh no! i bought a 675m from upgrade monkey some weeks ago. i sent it back since it didn't work with my m15x. it didn't access 3D states at all.. even when trying modifed vbios from svl7.. i'm afraid you won't have luck with that card. i bought a 7970m from mxm-upgrade.com and that's pretty rocking my m15x!
  8. hmm.. got a m15x with a 7970m using teh 13.1 drivers + win8 pro 64bit. no brightness control issues at all..
  9. i couldn't find screws like that in teh local shops. contacted mxm-upgrade.com and asked if they sell those. they told me, that they usually are included. they will send me a set, since mine were not with the card
  10. ok i tried the UV vbios from 1.000v to 0.975v from svl7. sems to run better, but still throttles sometimes to 450mhz.. temperature went up to 80°c after sometime, but the throttling occured at random temps.. :/ wondering whats wrong here.. any thoughts? EDIT: okay i think i got it.. all vbios i flashed somehow were not kicking butt.. after switching stealth mode on and off, everything went fine. i am on the 0.975v vbios now.. no throttling and (i think) a good 3Dmark11 bench: AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel® Core i7 CPU Q 840 @ 1.87GHz,Alienware score: P5591 3DMarks seems ok, does it?
  11. thank you Jeddik, i'll try to get some locally first. if that won't succeed, i'll prolly order them there.. shipping is really high :b i have to say i actually have found out my card is throttling with the vbios, that came on the card. trying some undervolting vbios from svl7.. but somehow i can't get around it by now..
  12. actually i couldn't find the screws at the bigger hardware shops. gonna take a look at some shops specialized on screws this week. for now i took some screws from a external harddrive case :b those which hold the front and back cover, the heads are a bit small, so i had to use some additinal washers.
  13. the card has a dell vbios. you can choose it when ordering it from mxm-upgrade.
  14. finally got my 7970m today! runs like a charm. only thing is, that i couldn't find any fan settings to set with hwinfo. well, i found some, that somebody used for a m17x, can i use those for my m15x as well? i think the m17x got bigger cooling pipes, don't they? those settings are: 66c = 1950 to 1978 rpm 70c = 2500 71c = 3200 79c = 3900 thanks for help! EDIT: i found this thread which helped me out! (maybe this could be added to the first post)
  15. ah, good! i'm on win 8 pro as well.. always was a little afraid of win8 being bad for such experimental stuff!
  16. just a sec, you tried windows 7 64 bit and probably want to switch back to windows 7 64 bit? :b do you mean windows 8? does the card run bad on a windows 8 machine? i am using it.. (still waiting for my card )
  17. will be receiving my 7970m from mxm-upgrade with a dell vbios. @svl7 will that vbios be good to go or do you recommend a modded vbios from you?
  18. hi, my name is gerphil and i'm from germany. got here thru research for gpu upgrades for my alienware m15x. i'm a graphics artist (2D/3D) and admin, working at a renderfarm. i usually use my aw m15x for graphics and gaming (just WoW, quakeworld and quakelive )
  19. hi t|i forum! just ordered a 7970m at mxm upgrade today, after unsuccessfully trying a gtx 675m in my m15x! i should have earlier found forums like this! can't wait to see the performance, my 260m definitly has to retire! thanks @Genetics for those nice vids!
