iPad screen looks way better on that video - more vibrant colors and better contrast from what I can see. Otherwise, transformer seems to have much more features and seems better. The clock widget looks very cool.

I don't know if you can remove the scratches, but what I do is ALWAYS have my alienware fabric over the screen when I am opening the laptop. It helps a lot because you'd need really push it to scratch it this way.

For me, it fixed the very annoying flickering caused by crossfire setup in games.

I'd guess the CPU does matter quite a bit, even for vantage. Also, my RAM is a little slower then his. I bought 1066 MHz RAM by accident when I was configuring the laptop and I still have it. I don't know how much would 1333 MHz RAM made a difference?

Yeah you could do that. Ashtefere is right tho, you'll want either newer Sandforce SF-1200 (or higher version) or Intel SSD. It happens, and it probably happened to everyone around here ... at least couple of times.

Not sure about the video card, but if you have the model number of the screen it should be available. The problem is - you don't know whether it's the card, so you should try it on an external monitor. Also, the question is what would the price of new screen be. I paid about $100 for a replacement screen for Dell XPS M1330 (13") - I think it was from the guy called 'laptopscreen1' on eBay. In this case, I'd probably grab the new laptop. Let it rest in peace. I'll be buying one for my dad soon and I'll probably be roaming around Dell and Lenovo outlets. Sometimes they have great new laptops for excellent prices. (I paid $600 for the Thinkpad tablet in my sig with regular HD, for example). If it's not too big of a deal to dish out ~$500, I'm pretty sure you can grab some decent replacement. I'll be in the market for 14-15" Latitude/Thinkpads.

Hey, I know exactly what you mean. I spent couple of days visiting my ex-gf in Israel. I thought all those bomb-checks were kind of odd - but its pretty similar in the US, especially New York. The security check for the Western Wall in Jerusalem was like walking into military compound. But I thought the country was really nice otherwise. I thought it was cool, there were a lot of signs in English and pretty much everyone I talked to spoke good English (I can understand some Russian too however). I remember they spent 30 mins checking my Alienware M11x at the airport.

Yeah, I think the keyboard is pretty good, even compared to thinkpad keyboards (which are just awesome). Definitely let us know how it goes with the screen. I think you got the good price regardless.

How much fluctuation in numbers do you get if you re run the test? I wouldn't put any significance to those 10 points.

I tried Google Chrome twice so far, and both times uninstalled it. First, it doesn't have decent extension to work with Del.icio.us bookmarks. Second, it prompts me 'Do you want to download' EVERY single time I click on a PDF file. Or I can have it open in it's own browser which I don't want either (I'm using Acrobat Pro with bookmarking, text marking etc.) It's just extremely annoying. And as a student, I open a lot of pdfs. The options in Chrome are very scarce too. It's certainly faster than Firefox but still too unfinished imo. So, back to Firefox I go.

Also from what I remember, Eric G had a post where he mentioned some a "surprise" LCD or something. I sure hope this wasn't it, lol.

Haha true... I brought M17xR2 couple of times into my office and left the door open when I was working. Every time someone would pass by, they'd stop and they "Holy crap this thing is huge!". A big mean gaming machine. When I leave the office I turn off the lights so anyone who passes by can see the lights glowing in the dark. (We have a window on our door here.) Gah.... I want M13x with anodized aluminum and a good screen.
