  1. Holy crap! You got a beast!!! 940XM is still really pricey. He is def right get an SSD. Congrats on the refurb monster.
  2. LOOOOOOOOOL! EPIC!!! :D But I feel sorry for the regular folks there that have to put up with this trash of government.
  3. I'm not sure how it works for vBulletin. I just used a regular MD5 hash generator online, and here's how fast it found a password "ti17ftw" BRB, I think I have to go change my passwords lol.....
  4. Found this on Slashdot, holy crap! Cheap GPUs are rendering strong passwords useless | ZDNet But I guess we can still get away with longer passwords...
  5. Hey, whats up with the font on the frontpage? It looks a little weird. As for iOS5, what are the odds we get a PC version?
  6. I am getting unauthorized download too. Found a link on this page tho: AMD Catalyst Btw, did you guy uninstall the old driver beforehand or just overwrote it?
  7. Yes, the battery - and most of the aftermarket replacement parts for M11x are ultra-expensive. I ended up extending the warranty for $200 on my ex-one. I have to call one of these days for a replacement laptop... (this is the fourth time something broke and I think the motherboard crapped out this time)
  8. This is a great idea and really useful thing to do with AlienFX.
  9. Ah California.... I'll be in San Diego (UCSD) next month for a science conference. I can't wait to hit the beach.... its been WAY too long!
  10. You could try Win reinstall with 6970M in. Come on, I know you want it. So, right now even the 470M doesn't work?
  11. I like it! Just one tiny thing - I think it would be nicer if you could see the top part of the text that's appearing more clearly. Right now black just blends with black.
  12. Hehe I agree for Sager. I wish they improve - it could be a good competitor in gaming laptops if they made them more attractive and cheaper. And well... less of a desktop.
  13. Well, if the "taste" is wanting to buy something bad despite being able to buy something thats better, for the same price. I couldn't really care whether my laptop is Asus, Apple, Dell/AW or something else. I had pretty bad experience with Dell laptops, so I am certainly not a fan of them. If Asus started making good quality laptops (compared to the laptops I mentioned earlier) and offered a decent warranty I'd be all over that. This looks more like a consumer-oriented laptop with a business/high-end user-oriented price. On the other hand, even for $600 you can get pretty good laptops - just check out Dell/Lenovo outlets. If, on the other hand, one really has to have a dedicated graphics - then the choice is typically something more consumer based - and the corners are cut in virtually every other aspect of the laptop: from build quality, uber-glossy finish, etc. I mean it's not bad, but its worth about $600. As for the looks, that's subjective - I'd like it if it were matte. I actually like the design otherwise. But unfortunately, that's about the only thing I like about it. And compare it to what you can get from Dell (something thats close to this Asus hardware-wise), Dell XPS 15: B+RG LED screen, hi-quality speakers, 525M/540M graphics and all that for about $1K.
  14. It seems they fixed that in v2.0. The support on their forum is great - I had some question one time (basically moving the configuration folder outside of My Documents) and the guy on the forum replied to me in couple of minutes. The software also seems to work nice and is inconspicuous. I used it for a while now and can recommend it.
  15. Interesting read! 1. I don't see where Asus is going. I agree with others, for this price you can take a pick from the top-of-the line Elitebook, Precision, Thinkpad or Alienware. (e.g. Thinkpad W520 has just slightly less gaming graphics performance 7k vs 8k on Vantage, yet it's light years away from this laptop in literally every other aspect. Yes, including the 95% gamut screen, access to hard drive by removing 1 screw, RAM 2 screws and not to mention build quality and well every single component .) 2. This is basically Asus version of the "old" Alienware M15x. Prices the same as M18x. LMAO. Agree with bifnewman, the graphics is on par with single 5870M. 3. The entire laptop is freaking glossy. How about showing us how it looks like once you actually used it? Yeah, wouldn't look that sexy. ^^ Fingerprints, galore! @mw86, look at 5:06 and you can see the keyboard flexing under normal pressure.
  16. I forgot to copy that number down too, when I sent in my M11x. I wouldn't worry about it, though.
  17. So, basically ... this is the working caddy? There were few other folks around who had some issues doing this. Great guide, btw.
  18. Yeah, same here. Fantastic stuff to produce the little cards we game on.
  19. This is just epic These folks are so funny!
  20. I'll definitely try this out, as soon as I have some free time.
  21. LOL.... I guess if one wants a good screen and good sound system, one should go with Dell XPS.
  22. AS5 isn't conductive so it's probably not going to matter, but still it's a cleaner job if you don't mess everything else with the paste (+ why risk it). Another note from Arctic Silver website: Arctic Silver Incorporated - Céramique 2 Important Reminder: Due to the unique shape and sizes of the particles in Arctic Silver 5's conductive matrix, it will take a up to 200 hours and several thermal cycles to achieve maximum particle to particle thermal conduction and for the heatsink to CPU interface to reach maximum conductivity. (This period will be longer in a system without a fan on the heatsink or with a low speed fan on the heatsink.) On systems measuring actual internal core temperatures via the CPU's internal diode, the measured temperature will often drop 2C to 5C over this "break-in" period. This break-in will occur during the normal use of the computer as long as the computer is turned off from time to time and the interface is allowed to cool to room temperature. Once the break-in is complete, the computer can be left on if desired. Btw, just noticed if you e-mail/call them you can buy 1kg container of AS5. lol.....

I don't know about that specific model, but there was a discussion on similar but related model here: http://forum.techinferno.com/alienware-m17x/286-dell-u2410-vs-alienware-m17x-r2-rgb-led-1200p.html I hope it helps.
