  1. Still not sure about this. Someone wants to buy my Dell 680m and is asking if it will work in an Alienware m17x R3, and if the 480m heatsink will work with the 680m ???? Can anyone shed some light, would be appreciated! EDIT: Looks like no go without modding..
  2. Yep that's right. You will find it will OC a lot higher now and be rock stable! Go go go. .
  3. Yeah with SLI GPU1 will always be 10-15 degrees hotter than GPU0 because of the position of where it is and the design they used . GPU1 is further away and due to that the Heatpipe has to run double the length of GPU0 hence less cooling efficiency. But there is an issue somewhere if it is hitting 90 degrees IMO. On top of bad sink contact this seems like something else also.. Not sure about this one, let us know what happens..
  4. I dunno what is going on but in 3dmark11 with the Dell 680m,s i am getting much less of a score than with the Clevo 680m,s with both tests running the same clock speed. @978mhz the Clevos scored 15.7k and the Dell cards only score 15.1k. Don't think there should be that much difference between them OR is that normal? hmmm :S AND the Dell cards won't go any higher than 1058mhz and even at that clock the Clevo,s at 978mhz still win.. LOL Shit cards or something is wrong ???
  5. Damn! You two guys are insane. lol That is freaking awesome. Some mad results there.
  6. That is usually the stupid power saving features which have a mind of there own. Try going into your "Nvidia control panel" - "Manage 3d settings" - go to "power management mode" and select "prefer maximum performance" instead of "adaptive" and reboot!! Try that to see if its the power saving crap OR problem with the GPU. . **Be aware that doing this also keeps your GPU,s clocked at a higher speed even at idle, they do not drop to 135-300mhz like they normally would on adaptive** GL
  7. Nope, i think you will need to get it from GPU-Z as that is the only one that displays the GPU vbios version.. :S
  8. I have always used the windows version for both desktop and laptop flashing and have never had a problem. best one is nvflash version 5.118 if you wan't to do it with CMD within windows.. Dunno about Dos way. . GL
  9. Awww man, my 680m,s run so much cooler now in the AW, fans ramp up like they should and with the highest OV vbios i can't even get them to go over 80 degrees. . This ov vbios is running like a charm too thanks so much svl7, your a true legend!! i have been enjoying the gaming so much that i have had no time for testing / benching! hahaha Yeah, stock volts are just under 1v. That temp is fine but just gives you less further OC room to play with.
  10. Gratz! nice machines, you will be very happy with them, i got some nice results from mine. . Let us know how they go. Enjoy
  11. yeah I reckon its worth getting the Clevo based machine. I loved mine and the only reason i went to Alienware is for OCing and cooling capacity otherwise i would have stayed with the Clevo. Great laptop.
  12. Yeah thanks for the feedback guys! It was in fact the silly designed 3 way sata hdd ribbon cable that was the fault. This machine was still under warranty so i called Dell up and explained what was going on and i also told them that the ribbon slit connection looks loose even though it wasn't really, but i wanted them to bring more parts in case. She put me on hold and then came back and said if its loose and the connection is faulty, will need to change the whole motherboard. I was in shock but i said yeah okay then.. lol So tech was here today and had a look and after troubleshooting he broke the latch that holds the ribbon in on the mobo after he actually found the ribbon cable to be the fault and after inserting and removing it many times it broke so he ended up replacing the whole motherboard and ribbon cable and now all is great!! Pretty suprised and impressed with there service tbh! Even after i changed some hardware out they still sorted it for me..
  13. Yeah will try that. Im not wanting to run them in Raid now, just normal but issues with 2nd drive disappearing. I have to try that, connecting 1 drive to the third slot which is the 2nd drive position that was disappearing. Thanks for the ideas, see how i go.
  14. Nice vids man. I don't think im gonna need all that really, im gonna OC on the Stock A09 bios and crank it as far as i can. I could do 4.3ghz on stock voltage and net 10.4k physics score with that and only 1600 stock ram so i reckon i can do a lot better with tweaking even with the stock bios. It still allows TDP and short term wattage + VID flex adjustment so should be fine. See how i go as temps will be factor and maybe power, i think Johnksss has some extra secret power source he,s not telling us about ? Hahahahahaha
  15. Yeah possible, but then why do they work flawlessly together on the Clevo beforehand.. Hmm, brain buster this one.. Im stumped with this bigtime :S
  16. Hey guys, just thought i would ask as i have no clue nor can i find any solutions anywhere to the issue. My M18x came with 2x 1TB normal drives in RAID 0 (Striped Disk Array) ?? And so i went ahead and installed my 2 SSD,s afterward and did a clean fresh install. What is happening is that it was slow at the "starting windows" all the time and giving me grief and the biggest thing is that the 2nd SSD just keeps disappearing, if it was there, all i would need to do is reboot and its gone again sometimes longer than other times and the machine was just really slow and crap. So, i formatted the drives again to start fresh again, but this time i noticed that the bios setting was still on Raid from the original setup, so i changed it to AHCI this time thinking this should fix my issues. Same thing, still has issues with slow loading and the 2nd drive disappearing.. So, after this, i ran and checked both SSD,s individually with only one drive installed at a time, no problems at all and super fast on both drives.. Sooo, just running the single drive for now but still dunno what the hell is going on, in future when i want to add another drive, chances are i will have the same issues.. Is there anything i need to change in settings OR does it require a different ribbon connector array to connect the drives (non raid) or something, im just thinking out loud.. ?? :S Apart from that crap, its running great! lol Thanks,
  17. Well, now running the overvolted 680m vbios on my SLI 680m,s in the new M18x.. All went smooth and no problems at all. We right in summer atm, so just need some cooler nights and will have some fun and see how we go.. @svl7 you are a legend!
  18. @30htz Don't need to unlock bios. With Intel XTU you can up the voltage high enough that you will require better cooling before you run out of volts.. NO, you cannot up the fans at all, only way would be to acquire the older version Sager bios and flash it but i dunno how good it would be. I went' Alienware instead and i am about to start testing the CPU and playing with all the settings, just been busy...
  19. You should be able to yeild better temps than that with a good re paste. 90C + for normal gaming is simply too hot. It's not gonna blow up but it's not good either. Mostly, the problem is the fans don't ramp up to where they should under load and can't desipate the heat well enough, same problem on the new clevo,s. You should be able to improve it somewhat.. GL
  20. You mean "the hunted" Silent kill ? Yeah that was awesome! Nice @Brian, Yeeeow! Demi moore is getting old now but DAMN she still Smokin Haawt aye. lol Oh and i just watched "Looper" Not bad.
  21. Aww yeah cool, yeah its easy done with the Clevo. Yes, that could very well be the SLI cable.. Is it a flat brown ribbon style cable ?
