How do i check my card id?

ehhh...I can't remember that clearly.but as far as I can tell you can refer to the guide to modify the driver.

it's somewhere in the device manager.

right click on your gpu-properties-details tab? It's likely to be there. I dunno.

I basically followed those steps 1 by 1 like 3 times.

just reinstalled windows as well to give it a shot but god this thing just doesnt work.

last thing i can think about is that although the card runs and gets recognised by windows it still needs the 8 pin power cable (as i mentioned i only pluged in a 6pin but it boots and spins and lights up so im really disappointed.

you should  check your card's id. Some of the newly -manufactured card is using a new hardware id(for gtx1060 6gb)

btw I've forgot my pwd for this forum and couldn't log in for a while lol

If your card does use a new id, you should modify the driver and add the id into it.

    EROR 43.

1060 6gb on Y500 all right. Download driver 368.81,no modify. Clean driver via DDU. in device manager rightclick on the basic graphic adapter on port PCI2, actualize driver, from disc, search driver 368.81,instal. restart. then instal Geforce expirience and actualize. in device manager disconnect GT650m.

PS: maybe is possible to instal only newest driver after clean via DDU. I didn´t try.

    Does anyone know why I have bus interface only  x16 2.0 @ x8 2.0 ?

    Swung Huang has 3.0

At y400/500 it only has 2.0.

@Bos Maior I did take all night reading the entire thread, but im still confused at something. Some guys here said that own laptop's screen doesnt work when using an AMD card, but some of your post (and @Kuneroll s) show a 3 screen setup working, including the internal one with a AMD card right? I ask that as i hv a RX 470 Nitro boxed here. Ty!

If you use an AMD card, usually you can just power the external display (the display directly attached to the card)by the AMD card. The internal display will turn on, but it cannot get the benefit from the eGPU(The same performance as GT650M/750M/755M depend on which your laptop have). So it just show up(maybe be creative and make a performance monitor on it?)

If you want to get benefit from an AMD card, the best way now is to attach an external display and gaming on it. Seems no way to pass image back to the internal display for the time being(If you did it, just tell me!!!!!)

@QDIRHow are you going with that RX480 setup? Can you use laptops own screen, or just The gpu outputs? Btw, if you disconnect the adaptor (due to some travel or anything) you hv to go into bios to re enable video? And what about your gaming? TY!

@Swung Huang Are you planning to sell your adaptor's version?

yep. If 20 or more people want them, I will sell them.

The problem is you can't use a telephone line to passsthough pcie signal... I said these PCIE ones are specially designed...

That's why I got them soldered the cable directly on pcb and they are expensive. I can't just pick a bunch of random copper cable and frankenstein it and call it a day...

Using pcie extenders can extend them like 2 meters or even 10 meters, but they are specially designed for pcie. Using Non-PCIe cables can cause stability issues.

The female connector i mentioned above. But actually I'm not willing to design a new adapter above it... So... it's your turn, guys.

My thought is the same as you. But how to do about the EXPOSED CONNECTOR? How about the signal integrity? What's the connector should be used? PCIE is specially designed. That's why I designed them as directly soldered to the board... I DID experienced signal degradation when using these random connectors. They just don't work well.

The pics are the cables I used. They are really not cheap.

  8. OK here's what's next.

I'll design a arclic bay which is sized as the odd. and a handle on the box will be added. So that you could attach/detach it as a original ultrabay module and will be easy to carry it away. Stay tuned for that. :)

but don't know about the strength of arclic. just a idea though.

Nice, a internal SATA/Ultrabay combo adapter, and a external eGPU.

    _

Or, another solution would be cut the adapter cable halfway and put 2x connectors (D-SUB?) would also work to achieve mobility.

Yes I did thought of it but I don't have the ability to produce a port for that so ... :-(

Just illustrating, something like this, with the internal adapter and the external eGPU being interconected by a single plug-in cable.

But maybe a D-SUB wont be able to handle the 8x PCIe... Displayport maybe?

    E3rdkZd.png

I just got one end of the cable lengthed by an pcb is for the convenience of attaching and detaching

I did have thought of HDMI/DP or others. They are not qualified for this job. They will cause the display driver stop running or just not showing up the egpu(maybe electrical interference or something) They just don't work well. I even thought of placing a vertical PCI-E x16 slot and get a extension cable for it. It just not being elegant. :(

I even thought of SFF cables. They will just bring the price of it out of control...

So that how its gonna be!

    Thank you!

To illustrate what I'm talking about, I have some pics. hopefully they will help you(I don't wanna shut my computer so just pick the things lying around for example lol)

I got bad luck, my y510p model 20217 does not have a NGFF/mSata, I just got 1 single SATA port. =/

Just to make sure you understand what I said, I was thinking if it was possible to have the 2nd drive inside the ultrabay slot, and your eGPU Ultrabay adaptor to be connected on the outside, Like this example (just to illustrate), where the mPCI is outside:

    GEgo4c7MmfA_unnamed.jpg

This way I would kill 3 rabbits with just one shot (2nd internal SSD, eGPU support and a Plug-in adapter)

    Thank you mister!

Ah that's relatively easy. you just buy that odd to 2.5' bay. you could align the cables to it and make a cutout on the bay to let the cables run outside the laptop. I have tried it before that's ok

  12. 13 minutes ago, AllanDavidson said:

    Awesome!

I use the laptop both at Work and Home, it would be way better to have the 2nd SSD inside the laptop (instead of carrying a external USB case like I do right now).

Since I'm gonna need both a internal SATA to ODD conversor and your eGPU adapter, there may be a few issues. =/

In the end, What Im gonna need is a SATA+eGPU Combo, and I'm still figuring out how I goona do it without being too complicated.

Maybe something just like @David 'SOAP' Washington did, I don't know.

But @Swung Huang I appreciate your willing to make it and sell it. Thank you! :D

Ah, my box have the 2.5' drive bay in it. so... You can put 2drives (1SATA+1ngff or mSATA)+1 external(connected at the ODD SATA) and you can have the drive in your eGPU box(Something like Martis Venus)

  13. And here's a good news for you. I' gonna sell my design(w/ wires and cases)to you. I will start the work if 20 people are going to buy it at least. It'll be priced at 140EUR. Anyone interested? The image about this design is shown above.

Looking at this image, I just noted that there is a strange connector between the Standard SATA connector and the Ultra Bay connector.

    lenovo_y510p_VIQY1_NM-A032_gtx755_gtx750

What is the purpose of this connector? It is used to house another Drive instead of the eGPU?

    s-l1600.jpg

So, I can use the eGPU and this adapter at the same time?

As I mentioned before, it IS just another standard SATA connector. It is originally for the optical drive. So it is just running at SATA2 speed(3Gbps)

Look at my box design below. That SSD is for that(Actually it won't reach its full speed lol)
