  1. One of the games I truly enjoyed was Assassin's Creed 2. It took the great games mechanics of the first game and then actually put a decent story inside. The next two were a bit meh. I dunno what Asssassin's Creed 3 will bring with American Revolution and such.
  2. Ah I didn't really register the word "good" hahaha. Honestly I thought all of the Crysis games were pretty meh and Crysis 2 wasn't even that pretty. Metro sucks ass in terms of gameplay. Maybe Epic's new Unreal 4 game will be good. Here's me hoping that it actually is Unreal Tournament 4. Valve's new games may be fun but won't stress GPUs that much. What about The Witcher 2 with ubersampling? That brings all GPUs to their knees
  3. Oh I dunno, I can think of a few games that stress the GPU and need all the power they can get. Crysis 1 with several mods comes to mind. Crysis 3 is coming out soon. How about the Metro series? Medal of Honor Warfighter using Frostbite? Epic Games' new PC exclusive using the Unreal Engine 4 as seen in the Samaritan Demo. Heck I'll even thrown Battlefield 3 in there if it means I can play multiplayer @60fps. I hope nvidia execution of the 680m is as good as this to offer decent competition.
  4. So back on topic, at nbr one of the users managed to get his hands on a 7970m and got it to work after modding some drivers. Apparently it scored 6000+ in '11 and around 20k in Vantage all stock CPU included.
  5. @Raypac, one 7970m=more than double 5870 performance so an increase would be really quite something.
  6. Damn. However, the card is still modestly clocked @850/1200. The desktop equivalent is clocked at 1000/1200. Same memory and only 150Mhz difference in core speed. Depending on how well the card OCs. 1GHz graphics in a laptop on air? Why not?
  7. Hey Conkers, would you consider watercooling your Mars 2's using these on each core?GPU-220 (Vid/MB) [no nozzles]I see that the holes spacing on the PCB is not even but this block is able to accommodate to nearly any type of hole configuration. You could stick some passive ramsinks onto the vram chips. All you would have to do is remove the heatsinks and replace the GPU shroud with fans still attached and it would still fit. The fans would also still provide cooling for the VRM and the rest of the card.
  8. So our Chinese friends over at IT168 posted some upcoming R4 shots including GTX 675m and GTX 680m stuff. 3DMark 11 benches included DELL
  9. So where's Jimbo now...I think someone should ring up Australia and get someone over to his house incase he's frothing from the mouth or something...
  10. Well MXM 3.1 standard is out now as of a few weeks ago. The only significant change is the support for PCIe 3.0 x16 speeds. According to the Clevo retailers, there is no physical change and the card design so it is backward compatible. I will not be surprised if the 680m will have like 480 or 512 shaders. Anyways I ramble on. Bring it on Alienware. I've already been offered a replacement but I've turned it down until the refreshes are out.
  11. From looking at the pictures, it looks like the pump is sitting in the battery compartment. The batter would have to be redesigned or removed completely.
  12. Oh oops! My mistake I didn't read the "+" bit. Shame they don't have any CUDA based software for your purposes. Imagine getting and SR-X with two 8-core 16 threaded Xeons and Fold 4 TESLA GPUs together
  13. I do gaming and general use on my R3. I do run a script when watching videos converting 24fps movies to 120fps (like on modern TVs) and that uses CPU and GPU too. I have my CPU normally at 3.7Ghz on 4 cores all the way up to 4Ghz on one core. Works very well that way. As for the screen, the 3D display is pretty nice. The only other screen I would consider modding in would be the IPS RGBLED from the M6600 if I can get my hands on one. I would also love a higher res screen. A 2560x1440 (16:9, 16:10 won't fit). Hopefully we'll see newer resolutions in the revisions to come although I don't think so
  14. Yeah I didn't mean that the CM Storm is bad. I had that on my wish list too but I just love the moddability of the U3
  15. OOOh right! Sorry! LOL! Yeah the XM is overkill really. I only got it to prove to the forums it could be done in an R3 and not just the M18x. Doesn't really affect boot and load times but it's good for what I do
  16. Mate they do exist. The EVGA SR-X and Asus Z9PE-D8 WS are both dual LGA2011 socket motherboards.
  17. You will not be able to put an extreme processor in it. The only desktop extreme processor of the current generation is the 3960X and it needs a X79 board. The X51 is a Z68 board. Plus the PSU will no where support it. It has enough trouble keeping up with a normal i7 2600 and 560 Ti. An i7 2600 is plenty. It is not overclockable because it doesn't have the K suffix meaning that it isn't unlocked. I say you leave everything as it is, maybe if you can, get some fast 1.35v ram. Then wait for the new Kepler cards to come out. You may see greater than GTX 580 performance within the 560 power envelope with the newer cards.
  18. Nah U3 is the best. Cheap as well as the fans being modular meaning you can position them wherever you like. I've got mine with the back over off and one on the CPU heatsink blowing directly on it, one on the GPU heatsink and one over the CPU fan to help with airflow. Because of the open space, you can get another set of fans in addition. I plan to for the GPU fan, hard drive and rams making a total of 6 fans. Cooler Master U6
  19. Yeah I've read a review where they've put a 560 Ti superclocked edition @ around 900Mhz and it still worked fine
  20. Just like there was no 580m when the M17x R3 came out. That's just the way it is. We will probably see the M17x R4 first then the M18x R2 will bring in the rear some time later with some big marketing campaign showing off the 680m's in SLi playing Metro Last Light or a new Unreal Engine 4 game.
  21. Going by what I've been seeing in the tech news, I don't think the 675m will be a rebrand. The leaked GT 640m already has 384 cores like the 580m so the 675m should have significantly more.
  22. Benching SSDs - JJB Power Plan tweak, StamatisX tweak (only the C1E bit, not the registry mod), Throttlestop force Turbo multi with EIST off:
