  1. Hmmm that makes me think... Btw do you know how to modify an ec? I,ll find one or i can give you the person who modifies one.... Btw. The link you gave me on dc power plug is almost the same plug you have right? Only the cable is 0.1mm longer. So its good to solder it on a dell 240 watts? update ... I have talked with someone expert in bios modding... he said and quote So it is with the bios and not in ec firmware.... -- @Grim one member from another website said this. is this true?
  2. Thats only gtx 570. Imagine a gtx680m if its oc'ed with a modded ec firmware. Definitely we must have more than 180 watts.
  3. Hmmm....makes me think to get that shims and put thermal adhesive to the heatsink so that it wont slip when i put it back
  4. Whats the temp before and after u put that shim on 3dmark 11? It would be better if u put a 2x2x.5 shim. The thinnest. U might bend the mxm board that much. So rhat u can either apply a thermal adhesive on the other heatsink side. Then apply a thermal paste pn the gpu side. Im thinking both of our ideas beneficial though :-D
  5. Tnx grim, but what about the plug end of the ac adapter? Can give me the link on where to get it? Tnx alot
  6. On Crysis2 I'm hitting max of 85 degrees celsius.. But in bf2 max temp gradually reaches at 93 degrees celsius... It would be better if you could post a pic on where u put that on your heatsink or put a link of that shin etsu so that i can get one too, btw... What monitoring software u using for 3dmark11
  7. I think our laptop is the same GT series . The only thing i see here is that my nb uses optimus. I dont know if your nb uses optimus too. but i think that msi uses the same plug end. I see the output of my ac adapter. Manufacturer is delta electronics with model adp-180hb. Power output is 19v == 9.5A so output base is 180.5 watts. Does your original ac adapter have the same 19v?
  8. yes i have the modded ec firmware which give boost a lot while benchmarking. is there a forum on how to mod a del 240watts for msi gt60/70 laptops? can post the link? thanks noob question again bro... can show me the link to this cable you where telling me? tnx
  9. here's the pic of my gpu heatsink. I put some copper shims on the heatpipes and removed the thermal pads, cleaned it and put a thermal adhesive instead. The heat transfer is very effective and the back plate can be closed with the original screws. Still waiting for the next batch of copper shims i ordered.
  10. @grim sorry for this noob question but where to chk voltage and amps on a laptop? Or check the label of the ac adapter.. the specs on it?.... woule you mind showing the link's on that Dell 240watts adapter and how you mod the cable? Showing some pics is very helpful though...... Btw... regarding what you said if 180watts is sufficient or not when it comes to power draw, i think my laptop draws more if you are ocin'g a gtx680m(with modded vbios and modded ec firmware) plus if you have an unlock bios which you can play the fsb of the cpu. Before my gpu upgrade, my nb uses gtx670m . I can oc both gpu and cpu using 106fsb thru bios. But now i can only oc the gpu and leave the fsb to its default speed to 100fsb only. If i oc the cpu to at least 101fsb and then i play demanding gpu games (dx11). After several minutes, the games freezes or blank screen resorting to force shutdown then restart and all is well again lol What is the exact model of your dell ac adapter? is this one? http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Dell-Alienware-Precision-m6600-240-Watt-M17X-M18X-AC-DC-Adapter-330-4342-/150939164284?pt=Laptop_Adapters_Chargers&hash=item2324acde7c or this one? http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Genuine-Dell-Alienware-M17x-Precision-M6400-M6500-240-Watt-AC-Adapter-Y044M-/170712368819?pt=Laptop_Adapters_Chargers&hash=item27bf4006b3
  11. I agree to this especially dx11 games. below dx11 format like dx9, dx10 the temps doesnt scale up high like with dx11 games
  12. so for NB user with 180psu especially with msi gt series nb... What are the symptoms or signs that your psu cant handle the power being drained by the gtx680m with an OV vbios from 1v to 1.05v? What can you guys suggest if some of us wants to upgrade our 180watts to a much higher wattage like 220watts psu/adapter? Given the fact that we have modded the backplate plus sufficent cooling for our NB? thanks
  13. I had this issue before with my msi gt60 and with gtx680m. The screws where soo tight also but hitting @96 degrees while playing dx11 games like BF3.. I did put several pads that must be put on the chips, re-paste several times but to no avail the temps on BF3 still reaches 96 degrees celcius. Then in one forum a member told me that the gpu is not in full contact with the heat sink. What I did is I literally remove the heat sink and the mxm gpu. (While looking at the gpu/heatsink) to my surprise, the gpu is not in contact with the heatsink. I replaced a 0.5m on the mem chips and took off several pads until the gpu touches the heatsink.. Put some copper shims on the gpu heatsink to lower the gpu temps and successfully the temps lowered. While playing dx games like BF3 I still reach temps (gradually) of up to 93 degrees but temp lowers drastically after the game level finishes. I am still waiting for my pair of shims to arrive in my place so that i put additional copper shims.
  14. Good job, but wait. Can you tell in details on how you did it working? Flashing first the laptop bios then what settings in the unlock bios u fiddled?
  15. what frequency you using to reach in 3dmark11 P8010? Mem and Core speed? tnx
  16. @svl7 your msi ov 1.000v cant seem to flash successfully. done several times even in usb mode cant reflash this version.
  17. Sorry for this noob question but what monitoring apps you using when benchmarking 3dmark11? thanks
  18. I have two sets of copper shims. The first set I put it already on the heatsink. 2nd set i need to laser cut the shim's into half.. Will post after i complete this project. Btw.. When will you release an OV for msi? thnx svl7
  19. i mean the 670m gpu not the 560m card.
  20. Can you show me the link? Because according to this forum it's the opposite of what you said. MSI GT683R + Clevo GTX670M = blank screen
  21. So it means High Voltage= High temps... If this is going to be available for laptops then we need watercooling for the heat to dissipate and a more high wattage for ac adapter.... Or a new version laptop to dissipate the heat..... oh well I am happy with my 680m. Performs like a desktop gpu
