Would love to get my hands on a pascal equipped one for testing. I'm not sold on vr yet.
  2. NVIDIA has officially lifted the NDA for the GTX 1070 which will be priced at $379 for the non-reference I mean non-Founders Edition card and $449 for the Founders Edition. Starting June 10th, we should see Founders Edition cards hit the market first which will then be followed by custom AIB cards that will vary in price anywhere from $380 to $450+. The GTX 1070 has a 256 bit bus like it's bigger sibling the 1080 but has 8 GB GDDR5 ram clocked at 8 GHz giving it less bandwidth than the 1080. In addition, the GTX 1070 has been gutted by NVIDIA and is left with 15 SM (streaming processors) and 1920 CUDA cores. It also features 120 TMU (texture mapping units) and 64 ROPs (render output unit/raster operations pipeline) with a peak fillrate of approximately 202 Gigatexels/sec. Comparison of GTX 1080/1070/980 Ti GPU GTX 1080 GTX 1070 GTX 980 Ti GPU architecture Pascal Pascal Maxwell Node 16 nm 16 nm 28 nm Transistor Count 7.2 billion 7.2 billion 8 billion Core Frequency 1607-1733 MHz 1506-1683 MHz 1000-1076 MHz Memory Frequency 10 Gbps 8 Gbps 7 Gbps Memory Type GDDR5x GDDR5 GDDR5 Memory Bus 256 bit 256 bit 384 bit Memory Size 8 GB 8 GB 6 GB ROPs 64 64 96 Shaders 2560 1920 2816 GFLOPS 8,873 6,463 6,060 Texture Units 160 120 176 Texel Fill Rate 277.3 GigaTexels/sec 201.9 GigaTexels/sec 176 GigaTexels/sec TDP 180W 202W 250W External Power 8 pin 8 pin 8 + 6 pin Like the GTX 1080, the 1070 starts at a fairly high base clock of 1506 MHz with boost speeds of 1683 MHz and utilizes NVIDIA's newest Boost 3.0 technology. The cooling unit is pretty much the same between the 1080 FE and 1070 FE that features the new polygonal shaped shroud and fan blower. Like the 1080 FE, the 1070 FE comes with a backplate which theoretically helps keep components cooler. The power delivery system of the 1070 has been cut down a bit more compared to the 1080 and is equipped with a 4-phase dual-FET design. NVIDIA has stated that the GTX 1070 is as fast as a Titan X in most cases which means it should match or exceed a base 980 Ti in nearly ever metric. Based on the reviews below, it seems NVIDIA was right on the mark. Here is a round-up in no particular order of current 1070 reviews: Linus TechTips: Gamer's Nexus: Hard|OCP: http://hardocp.com/article/2016/05/29/nvidia_geforce_gtx_1070_founders_edition_preview/#.V0uByfkrIuU TechSpot: http://www.techspot.com/review/1182-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1070/ PCPer: http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/GeForce-GTX-1070-8GB-Founders-Edition-Review Hexus: http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphics/93050-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1070-16nm-pascal/ SWECLOCKERS: http://www.sweclockers.com/test/22153-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1070/10#content Hardware Canucks: http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/72689-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1070-review.html Tom's Hardware: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1070-8gb-pascal-performance,review-33567.html GameSpot: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1070-review/1100-6440307/ View full article
  3. With NVIDIA having now officially launched their next generation Pascal based GTX 1070 and 1080 GPUs, there are a number of AIB partner boards coming to the market soon. We have a video today by YouTuber Actually Hardcore Overclocking that examines different custom PCBs and helps break down the differences between the various boards and their power delivery designs. If you've read about additional power phases that will be available on AIB cards that are lacking in Founder's Edition but never quite knew what that meant, this video should help. View full article
  4. What are your gpu temps like? Also how many watts is the PSU? P.S. don't cross-post.
  5. Looks like the build is coming along nicely, now you just need to sell that Xbox One and grab a CPU.
  6. I don't think that would've quite fit in the question box But yeah the marketing is doing the driving for both companies and the NVIDIA Founder's Sucker's Edition charging an extra $100 for a reference card is all too funny yet appalling. Fortunately NVIDIA likely won't need to carry over this new "branding" to the mobile version since they already price gouge for those. AMD meanwhile is busy falling apart internally with RTG led by Raja Koduri leading an internal rebellion and forming possible IP licensing deals with Intel and trying to get Polaris out the door. From the looks of it, both Pascal and Polaris will be disappointing overclockers with AMD rumored to have troubles clocking up Polaris anywhere near where Pascal starts and it seems Pascal is hard limited to around 1.25v (gets unstable beyond 1.25v) even with a custom vbios and on LN2 the 1080 barely breaks 2400 MHz and ends up slower than LN2 cooled 980 Ti cards. So basically, even under the best circumstances with a modded vbios, we won't likely see 1080s breaking >2.2 GHz stable despite AIB's adding in all those new power phases and 6 pin connectors. In fact, there's a 1070 review floating around that shows even at 2 GHz, the 1070 doesn't gain much performance and a lower power version will most likely hit notebooks and have similar poor uptake in performance while overclocked. Overall, I'm pretty disappointed by Pascal and I think Polaris will be an even bigger disappointment as it seems AMD has been left miles behind by NVIDIA. AMD aren't even confident enough to invite Hard|OCP to their Macau conference in fear of Kyle calling out their card as weak. Firestrike The Division Ashes of Singularity If the desktop 1070 is bandwidth limited as it seems in the above graphs, then it is almost a sure bet any mobile variant will face the same limitations with GDDR5.

  10. I'm sure over time they will start seeing degradation requiring more voltage or clocking it down. The same thing happened with my 5820K, it used to hold at 4.4 ghz @ 1.29v but now it refuses to do so w/out more voltage.
  11. If the sound is there on boot and not confined to the OS then it points to a bad speaker or motherboard. Unplug the speaker and connect the left one to it and see if you get the same result.

  13. TweakTown just released a new story claiming that NVIDIA rather than AMD will be the one powering Nintendo's new NX console which is scheduled for release in early 2017. More specifically, it was rumored that AMD's new Polaris in combination with an x86 CPU or part of an APU was the brains behind the new NX. Instead, the rumor is that the NX will be utilizing an NVIDIA Tegra SoC that uses the newest Pascal architecture. To add a little more salt to the rumor, Emily Rogers, an online journalist that has supposedly been privy to this sort of information in the past, is now stating the NX is not powered by an x86 architecture but rather a custom design that utilizes "modern chips". She doesn't specify what those "modern chips" are but if you take what TweakTown claims in addition to what she said and Nintendo's history of not chasing after the most powerful hardware, there's some plausibility to all of this. I guess we'll find out soon enough if Nintendo did choose to go with NVIDIA this time around and if so, expect a nice boost to NVIDIA stock if all this turns out to be true. View full article

  15. Blizzard's new Overwatch game was a risky move for a company that has never created a team shooter before but if we go by the amount of people that played it and the time spent in the game, it is easy to see the game is on the fast path to success. Blizzard issued a press release stating that Overwatch is Blizzard's biggest open beta ever with 9.7 million global players spread across the PC, Xbox One and PS4. Players logged in over 4.9 billion minutes (over 81 million hours) across more than 37 million matches in the game. According to Blizzpro, if you're looking to compare Overwatch to other recent betas as a measure of success, The Division beta had 6.4 million players, Destiny had 4.6 million while Star Wars Battlefront beta had 9 million players. In addition, to make it crystal clear that Blizzard is taking Overwatch very seriously, they also released a statement today letting the community know that they intend to crack down on cheaters in the game by banning them for life and will provide years of support for Overwatch - this should be of great comfort to many players that were concerned if certain pro players were cheating and whether Blizzard would say or do anything about it. 18. Just ran across this on YouTube - NVIDIA 1080 gameplay videos:
  19. Ah ok, for some reason I thought both were on June 10th, I only caught the tail end of the presentation today. Nobody expected a $380 1070 that is supposed to be faster than Titan X so anything is possible with mobile. NVIDIA is probably acutely aware AMD is focusing on mobile first + middle end so they may make an exception and toss in a groundbreaking card that is almost as fast as 1070 but 2x the price for those that are willing to pay (and many on this forum and NBR would pay). We just need to see what AMD introduces soon and hopefully it's not trash.
  20. I think we might see GDDR5 in the mobile version with a 256 bit bus for the top end given how low the power envelope is for the desktop card. In fact I can see them just slightly cutting away a few cores and shipping a card that is between the 1070/1080 in speed. However, if the price is low enough for GDDR5x, then NVIDIA might use it to milk more money out of consumers, especially if these new cards are heavily marketed towards VR (which they will be). June 10th is the release date for the desktop cards (where did you see May 27th?) so I'm guessing maybe September for the mobile versions or earlier if NVIDIA is being aggressive against AMD's upcoming Polaris which is targeting mobile and midrange.

  22. Later today, during a livestream at 1pm PST / 4pm EST / 9pm BST, DICE will reveal the next installment of the Battlefield series. However, thanks to a leak on Xbox Live, we already know the game will be called Battlefield 1 and set in an alternate universe during World War 1. Many might not remember but back in 1999, before Refraction Games merged with DICE, they had a game set in an alternate universe during WW1 called Codename Eagle and it was groundbreaking at the time. Let's hope this game manages to do the same and isn't just another small iteration in the Battlefield series. Once the reveal goes live, we'll continue to update this post. View the live event now: Watch live video from Battlefield on www.twitch.tv The official trailer can be viewed below: So here's what the developers at DICE revealed about this new game today: Persistence and immersion: The game is going to continue to focus on immersion with destructible environments and DICE wants to take things a step further with persistence by including a persistent squad feature allowing squads to jump seamlessly from one server to another and retaining their XP. Weapons with attachments and trench warfare: Pistol, sniper weapons, melee weapons such as a bayonet, sabers, trench clubs, shovel, light machine guns, and flamethrower. That's right a friggin' flamethrower! Melee weapon combat was created brand new from the ground up for Battlefield 1 and promises to offer a new twist in gameplay. Of course, since it's a WW1 focused game, trench warfare will be a given. Vehicles: As evident in the video there will be scout planes, bomber planes, tanks, light tanks, ships, boats, battleships, horses and more. DICE was being cagey about the horses but during the Q&A with the audience, they begrudgingly admitted that players will be able to ride the horses like you would any other vehicle in the game. In the trailer there's a zeppelin hovering above a player so there's a good chance players will be able to pilot those as well. Single player campaign: The campaign will take place through the eyes of several different people and it will focus on the world around them. This is a departure from the previous games where you have a singular main character. There was no mention of community server support via dedicated server files and we most likely will not get that as EA has not been supportive of community servers and mods since Battlefield 2. The first hands-on event of the game will take place in June during EA Play and it is then we'll learn a lot more about the game's various maps, modes, multiplayer etc. The official release date is Oct 21st 2016 while those that pre-order get access on Oct 18th 2016 and if you sign up on battlefield.com and become a Battlefield Insider, you will have a chance to play the open beta. GeForce 365.10 WHQL

These work perfectly with my Titan x's in overwatch.
  24. The game is well balanced although some heroes in my opinion could use a slight damage boost while others need a slight reduction in how long their shields can absorb damage.
