  1. Has there been any luck modding the bios on the G700? I keep reading many forums that an Error 28: Protected Range Registers are currently set by BIOS, preventing flash access. comes up. I read that the only solution is a HW SPI Programmer. I guess i have to use a USB dual band wifi adapter for this laptop.
  2. I spent the 6$ like you and boom up and running with my intel 7260! I will have to give up subway for a day I guess
  3. I have another question about flashing this bios. As all the y500 came pre-installed with Win 8; Is there an issue with flashing the bios after reformatting and installing a clean Win 7 version? Are there any other issues or items that should be noted before flashing this modded bios? I think you just persuaded me to do the same! After spending a few bucks on a few parts, $5 won't hurt! LOL. Which card did you install? I have an INTEL 7260 ready to be popped in again.
  4. So these past 2 weeks, I have gone into full upgrade mode. I decided to upgrade my 2 Lenovo's and my GF's Samsung. I got the 16GB ram kits coming; Upgraded SSD to 2 laptops; Bought all 3 the intel 7260 dual band ac wireless adapter. Little did I know there is this crappy whitelist!!!!! First off, why? I don't understand the stupidity behind this. It's my laptop, I want to put parts in it! Anyways, the network cards don't work for the Lenovo's. One of them is the y500 which i see posted all around and the other is the G700 which requires a hardward programming component. My y500 is running the latest bios but in order for me to use the ac dual band, I need to mod it and I see the instructions. My one question though relates to ram? Is ram whitelisted too? I have a 16gb kit of crucial ballistix on it's way and the last thing I want is it to say unauthorized ram! Can anyone shed some light? Again thanks Lenovo for making everything a hassle!

    Y500 VS Y510p

I went with the y500 plus msata ssd and extra ram. At the time, it was cheaper to get this combo then the 510.
  6. So you replaced the entire keyboard? I would have thought that would help with the sticky feel. I haven't had any issues with my keyboard on my y500. Not sure how else to help you since you did the one thing I would have recommended.
  7. This is awesome. I'm in the middle of some minor upgrades and appreciate the guidance.
  8. I just bought the 7260 and learned about this "whitelist" non-sense. I was fixing my GF's samsung and installed the same wifi adapter no problems. I was reading up on the Intel 6300N since that's an item on this stupid list. How can we know for sure if the part they reference in the hardware manual will even work.
  9. Everyone who has attempted to flash their y500 with the mod, has anyone got bricked yet?
