  1. I'm building a new PC so I need to get something, unfortunately. This was an obvious strategy by nVidia to try to sell off their glut of 10 series cards by pricing RTX like they did. 1080ti prices have actually been going up, since those are in higher demand now. I'll probably end up getting an RTX 2080 because at this point it's only marginally more expensive than a decent 1080ti. Oh, and this whole "founders prices" stuff needs to stop. We will never see RTX cards sell for the prices nVidia stated in their press conference ($699/$999). All the partner cards are releasing at the founders prices, and there's no reason for nVidia to drop prices with no meaningful competition in the market from AMD or anyone else. AMD doesn't have anything to compete with either RTX card or the 1080ti for that matter.
  2. You'll want at least 16GB. And yes, DDR4 is still expensive. You're looking at around $140-150 per 16GB.
  3. I've got a weird issue that I've had for a while but never been able to figure out. My laptop works fine, except that if I unplug it and then try to turn it on it won't do anything. No sign it's even trying to boot. If I plug it back in it works fine. If I have my laptop on already and then unplug it, it also runs fine of the battery. It's just initially turning it on that's an issue. The battery and power brick should both be fine. They were actually both replaced since this issue began because the battery would no longer charge (brick was dead), and the behavior has been teh same with the new parts. Any ideas?
  4. It's been a while, but I believe SATA III works on at least one of the ports on the stock BIOS. For sure, there's unlocked A08 and A12 BIOS versions out there with a "SATA fix" as well. Should be easy to find if you google for m17x r3 unlocked bios sata. You can flash the BIOS from a utility in Windows. As for the GPU, I'm not sure. It mostly depends what you can find for sale nowadays. Nvidia 5xx/6xx should definitely work. Maybe more than that. I currently run an AMD 7970m, which replaced my 6990m when it died.
  5. My 6990m died a couple years ago and I replaced it with an ebay 7970m which has been working fine. My guess is your 460m issue has something to do with the vbios on the card or the card itself is dead. Where did you get it from, and do you know it worked before you installed it?
  6. Hopefully there's some competition from somebody soon. AMD, Intel, whoever. The nVidia monopoly pricing scheme is bonkers.
  7. I doubt you'll ever see it at that price. At least not until more faster GPU's are released in a year or two.
