  1. Yes! Most riser cables are of poor quality and can cause stability problems due to signal degeneration! If you must you a riser, you can try and go the "cheap" way. If it doesn't work or you want to get sth with quality in the dirst place, get a 50$ shielded riser without power and power with the barrel plug.
  2. Check out some cases listet here: https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/6810-egpu-cases/
  3. I can test that later. Edit: Quicktime is running just fine!
  4. The monitors are connected to the eGPU and not to the MacBook or TB ports? Haven't really used it in OSX, but benchmarks like Ungine Valley did fine.
  5. @hramos90 Please take a look at the first post here: https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/7377-220w-dell-da-2-ac-adapter-discussion/ You will see that you need to do some rewiring. So you could get two 6-pin PCIe splitter cables with one sticking into the other and giving you 3x6-Pin. You could than use 2 for the GPU and one for the barrel plug. The 6-Pin to barrel cable is totally an overkill!
  6. Hey, 1. the GPU is long, you will not be able to close the case! 2. the barrel plug is wrong, you need 2.5 and 5.5mm 3. the 8-Pin splitter is good, but you would have to rewire it and solder! Also there wouldn't be any cable left for the length needed for the barrel plug. Maybe consider writing this guy a message and asking him for that all in one cable (which is good!): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Akitio-eGPU-8-PIN-TO-2-x-PCI-E-6-PIN-MALE-AND-1-x-ID-2-5mm-OD-5-5mm-BARREL-/251984919354?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3aab78bb3a
  7. 1. Maybe you have to ask in a Hackintosh forum since this is a PC card 3. ask here: https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/7989-script-automating-the-installation-of-egpu-on-os-x-inc-display-output/
  8. Like I said... I can do that or you buy that cable from the US. Or you make it yourself.
  9. You need 2x6-Pin to make the GPU run! The graphics card only comes with one adapter, because every PC that wants to run this card should have at least 1x6-Pin PCIe cable on the PSU. The 2nd 6-Pin can be made with that adapter. There are not two adapters, because using two adapters would mean that the PSU can run the GPU in the first place. With using the Dell DA-2 we are doing sth totally different. You have two options: 1. I can solder you a all in one ready to go cable or 2. you text this guy and let him make this cable for you (favour, not through eBay): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Akitio-eGPU-8-PIN-TO-2-x-PCI-E-6-PIN-MALE-AND-1-x-ID-2-5mm-OD-5-5mm-BARREL-/251984919354?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3aab78bb3a
  10. Yes, you will only need the powered riser OR the modded barrel plug.
  11. Is there anything you need to do, to enable Optimus? Or just boot with the eGPU and start the game?!
  12. @Morv Ha, I just wanted to post that too Can anyone test the latest driver?
  13. 1. Go into the audio preferences in OSX and try the different outputs. 2. In OSX for gaming yes! Some rendering apps like Octane or Blender do not need a monitor. Gaming on the internal monitor is only possible in Windows 8.1 with a Intel Iris MB only! 3. plz ask goalque 4. Yes, enable it again! 5. No problem, it is ok! Some programs that run on CUDA will benefit. Games shouldn't have a (dis-)advantage.
  14. Barrel plugs with screw terminals or colored cables will make it very easy for you to see where 12V and ground has to be connected to! I can make a picture tonight with my voltmeter how I test the plug.
  15. Can you make a test in Windows with lowering the GPU power in MSI Afterburner as much as possible? Also can you test another PSU?
  16. Should be fine, if it is running good so far
  17. Noises because of GPU load are more common nowdays with the Maxell GPUs! That is because the GPUs now have a very complex power management, allowing the GPU to switch extremly fast between power states and loads. A very common problem are the GTX970 cards with poor coils and weak power system on the card. A bad PSU can cause the same problems, but I would say that the AKiTiOs power system was not made for such high loads and reacts with that sounds. It's no problem, just a bit uncomfortable.
  18. I would say you just have to install Windows via Bootcamp, install the Bootcamp driver, reboot and turn on eGPU for the first time, stay with the specific boot order (time to switch on the eGPU), boot into Windows and install the latest Nvidia driver.
  19. Huuuuuuh. Have installed all the latest driver? Bootcamp driver? Nvidia driver? can you run benchmarks? What happends if you monitor the GPU with GPU-Z or MSI Afterburner?
  20. @MohammedSayed Please read my basic guide: You will need a 500W with the right amount of PCIe plugs 6/8-Pin to power the eGPU. You will need a barrel plug as well that can connect to the Molex plugs (best two of them) of the PSU.
  21. Hardware and OSX is correct. Maybe consider a ITX case to put everything in? For Windows I am not sure if it is really that complicated.
  22. Yes! Keep in mind that you need the 90° PCIe extension to be able to close the case.
