  1. Well quick update, I installed the 7260 last night. Side note, WIFI is fantastic with that thing. Bluetooth actually seems more responsive as well... HOWEVER, I did one test, put the Y500 to sleep, woke it up, bluetooth is gone! So the 7260 didnt fix it. I rarely had this problem with the 1.05 bios... it would happen occasionally, but 90% of the time it worked out of sleep. But yeah I dont know for sure if it is the bios, drivers or windows issue. Does anyone have a copy of the 1.05 BIOS modded? I have my original copy too if anyone knows how to mod it. But I am willing to test it to see if that clears up the issue.

    Y500 Bluetooth

I installed the 7260 last night. Side note, WIFI is fantastic with that thing. Bluetooth actually seems more responsive as well... HOWEVER, I did one test, put the Y500 to sleep, woke it up, bluetooth is gone! So the 7260 itself did not fix the issue. I rarely had this problem with the 1.05 bios... it would happen occasionally, but 90% of the time it worked out of sleep. But yeah I dont know for sure if it is the bios, drivers or windows issue. If someone has a version of the 1.05 bios that is modded, I WILL TEST IT! I am really annoyed at this issue...
  3. Your information is unclear. When you say meltdowns, what do you mean? Is this just while surfing the net etc or during 3D gaming? Is this a crash, or what pops up the error? You never know, it may not be graphics related at all... are you monitoring your hardware temperatures at all? Get HWmonitor or something and keep an eye on your GPU and CPU temps while going through the activities, report back.

    Y500 Bluetooth

Please do. I ran into a very similar problem after bios update. I have been running 8.1 since November. Bluetooth worked fine even after waking from sleep, 95% of the time. Then I update the bios and bam, bluetooth fails after wakeup 100% of the time so far. I started a thread that didnt get any traction about this... http://forum.techinferno.com/lenovo-ibm/5963-y500-bluetooth-issue-after-whitelist-bios.html I am geting my 7260 this week, so I will try and update this and my thread if I can get it working right.
  5. You need to either sign up for the premium membership with a donation, or have 5 quality posts. Check the forum rules, there are more details there. You are close to 5 though! I just bought that same card for my Y500, I already have my bios updated and unlocked. So you will need to do the same. I think you will want to put the old wifi card back in, get this all wrapped up. Remove old drivers, install new ones and then pop the 7260 back in and enjoy it.
  6. Hello all, I know and have known the Y500 to have bluetooth issues in regards to coming out of sleep mode. I have read about it for some time. Since I purchased the Y500 last year, most of the time it has been in use plugged into my TV for gaming and media. I have been using a bluetooth keyboard and Razer bluetooth mouse. I would almost always just put the Y500 to sleep and wake it up, bluetooth would work and my devices would connect. It was extremely consistent. I only had to restart a couple times in the last couple of months when one of both bluetooth devices would not connect. Fast forward to this week when I installed Y500 whitelist mod bios. Now bluetooth always fails after waking it up from sleep/standby. Previously I was on the 1.05 version of the bios. Now I am on 2.04 modded. I really appreciate having the modded bios, as I have done some overclocking of my SLI 650M's and I have ordered an Intel 7260 wifi card, which I should get next week. It is great. But I wonder if there was something inherent to the 1.05 bios that made the bluetooth/sleep issue more rare. I thought I would throw this experience into the pile and see if anyone has any thoughts or ideas. If a version of the 1.05 bios, modded, exists and it it is possible to go back. I would be willing to do some testing. I of course have my backup of the 1.05 bios, so I guess I can try that too. PS: I wonder if anyone has gone to the 7260 or another wifi card and had that fix the bluetooth issue. Thanks! Ian
  7. I tried posting on this earlier, but nothing posted so im trying a different browser. That or maybe my post wasnt approved... as I am new. Anyway you may want to see if you can disconnect the fan and test is alone to see if it is the fan itself that has mechanically failed or if something else on the board or software wise is causing issues.
  8. Hmmm, interested to see what GeForce card they go with in there. The spec sheet I looked at, it made it seems like the AMD R9 was only going to be an option on the Y40 and not the Y50. Looks like a launch of April or May. Not clear but do these have an UltraBay like their predecessors? Also lets hope they decouple the cooling of the main GPU and CPU...
  9. I believe that is correct. Though I bought my Y500 with the mSATA empty and decided to go with a 32GB Crucial SSD for cache. Even with that setup boot time is very quick, under 10 seconds. And whatever games or applications you use the most get cached and load time is pretty good. It isnt ever going to be as good as going full SSD. Though at this point the cache seems to work well enough for me. As mentioned make sure you have the right screw. I didn't and I was lucky I was able to salvage a screw out of an old floppy drive caddy that worked. Another reason to keep old crap I guess.
  10. I will just mention that I am having odd issues with USB. But it is with all of my USB ports and really only with my Razer mouse. I often times need to plug it in and remove it 9 or 10 times before it works. I plug it in, it works for 3 seconds and freezes, like it was unplugged. Then I need to repeat until it just works...
  11. Yeah the fan should definitely being going when on any load. Its usually blowing a little when not on load on mine, but sometimes its pretty faint. If compressed air doesnt work you may consider taking it apart and testing the fan alone.
  12. Glad I stumbled upon this forum and thread. Also curious on the Msata soldering...
