  1. Yep but it's all good now, at the time the novo button didn't work either. Today: after leaving the laptop off and charging for about 5-6 days the novo button finally gave me my options. So I got to go back into bios and UN f**k up everything. Thank you all for your replies!!!
  2. Another update: after leaving the computer off for a few hours rebooting it shows the Lenovo splash then the screen turns off turns on again , showing just a black screen with the backlight on. Should I just send it in to the evil overlords at Lenovo?
  3. Lol I was calling myself an asshole not you haha. Also yeah, one should be expected to take responsibility, but I'm assuming Lenovo has these barriers in place as a safety net of sorts. Again they have honestly degraded in quality over the years, especially in terms of customer service.
  4. Sadly all possible keys were mashed many times, some in a fit of anger while others in a fit of sadness. And the new bios was not flashed at all. Just tinkered with the settings in the bios and boom . Could this be because of a damaged hdd? Other info: when the laptop is turned on and there is nothing showing on the screen, pressing the power button shuts it down immediately, no long holds or anything. Plus there was one instance where I used the Lenovo reset key to turn it on and it made loud beeping noises, only once though. The loud fan was the only source of sound thereafter.
  5. At this point , the biggest problem is that I can't load into the uefi because at startup the computer just shoes a blank screen, no Lenovo logo, as of the device is bricked .
  6. Most of the time now, just gives me a code 43 drivers are fine, OS is fine, just going to assume it's. Some other driver that's unsupported and is causing it to crash. That or my Bios is old and is the root cause. Will try to fix and will post updates
  7. So in attempts to make my unruly machine (y400) boot from the USB for the unlocked bios mod. I fiddled with the settings for the uefi (bios), clever me decided it'd be a good idea to mess around with the BOOT options in the uefi. Changed the boot options all the legacy (where applicable), changed the optimized settings to other OS (other than windows 8, and again changed the boot mode to legacy support rather than the UEFI. Now, after sobering up and slapping my self several times, i regret that decision. Can anyone provide any support as to how to revert back to the standard UEFI, and how to boot with USB on this system so i can install a real network card and not carry around a massive dongle. Anything ive tried has been shot down in flames for the past few hours and i really dont want to disassemble the laptop to remove the UEFI battery to reset it (if that still works). Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Hell, if you can solve all those problems and somehow use tech wizardry to also solve my graphics driver issues ill gift you.
  8. Sometimes the components that they haven't "certified" apparently interfere with the functioning of the machine, I can see it maybe being an issue if someone used a network card that was corrupted, and for ease of troubleshooting they "whitelisted" the components. But very few components that are bought from reputable sources could cause such issues, and the owner of the machine probably knew what they were doing when they decided to replace the card. And a somewhat asshole like reply to your comment about the cards, Less gasoline to use and more of what type/brand of say, oil filter to use
  9. If its only for general gaming, 8 gigs is more than enough. TBH I only have 16 gigs because i like to do some 3d rendering on my laptop (as slow as it is).
  10. Lenovo has in all honestly degraded in quality since a few years back in terms of customer service. The whitelist as most likely said before, could be to make it easier for them in terms of repairs as they know which parts are being used and have experience with them. Otherwise it could be because they want them to use the parts only "certified" by them for financial reasons.
  11. My Lenovo y400 (which i use as a casual portable comp) for the past 5 months or so has had consistent Graphics card meltdowns. I don't know whether its software (NVIDIA drivers, other incompatible drivers etc.) or an hardware error (shows code 43), but atm its just sticking at the code 43. I sent it in to lenovo, they apparently "fixed" it with no solution. Is there anything i can do that i haven't done already? Yes ive reset my computer, Yes ive fully uninstalled all NVIDIA drivers, cleared all its logs and what not and reinstalled but no solution. :c
  12. Does the 750 have dedicated ram, or does it use VRAM?
  13. I dont know if its been said before but according to what googling this a few months back told me. In order to have the SLI feature on in laptops, they have to turn off the optimus feature. Now i dont know if its true for all brands, but for the lenovos ive worked with (we have a bunch at work) it seems to be the case.
  14. From personal experience, 8 gigabytes are fine for current generation games. 16 gigabytes isnt overkill but isnt necessary FOR NOW. For later games that start utilizing more cores, more memory etc. It might be useful.
