    hello again

i know slv7 can make a custom bios files and i mean i would have no problem paying the guys for his work...

One of the main reason and probably the only reason i have , is that i want to have full control of the fan .... just like my old m18x-r2 .... so i don't have to rely on hwinfo64 AND so i can push my fan @ full speed /... on the aw18 the fan never goes full RPM ...

i don't know if i buy a bios from slv7 or if i program it with an spi programmer .. if this would give me control over those darn fan speed ??

    anybody know?

slv7 can you point me to a post or help with this? thank you!!

I have talked to svl7 and he meant that it isn't possible to unlock power limits on new aw 18 even with an unlocked bios.. we have to mod something on the motherboard.

I can probably ask him whether it is possible to control the fans in another way like HWINFO.

  2. You aren't right.

There exists two versions with different pcb's of the gtx 980. One has 180 watts tdp and the other one has a 200 watts tdp.

I receaved information that even the 180 watts tdp card won't fit in the new alienware 18 although the pcb of the card looks like standart mxm pcb like gtx 980m.

But yes the aw 18 heatsinks can't cool a card like this.

when my gpu started this weird phenomenon i thought the vbios caused it so i flashed the wrong bios version. so i lost it for couple months and now im back to the black-screen of death.

    thanks

Can you tell me the graphics card temperature under load?

Many people with the same problem had too high temps.

    best regards!

  4. Yes thats right.

It is exactly the same model as the Alienware 18 from 2013/2014 only with new gpu's. Alienware released the new A12 BIOS for them to make an upgrade available for the older Alienware 18's (2013/14). If you flash the A12 BIOS the old Alienware 18's are able to handle the maxwell cards (970M/980M).

Thats the only difference i noticed.

    Best regards!

  5. Hello,

What pc do you want to buy instead of the Alienware M18x R2?

Do you want to stay with Alienware or want to buy a Clevo based machine?

The old Alienware M18x R2 has some advantages which the new one hasn't!

For example you can flash an unlocked bios or do an dual psu mod to bypass the power throtteling.

In fact i would stay with your alienware and upgrade it with two new gtx 980m's.

I hope that i can help you with your decision ;)
