  1. Then looks like something is broken. I don't get that kind of issue with my 780Ms. I hope it isn't overheating or anything. Also, why does it say your GPU has 3072MB of vRAM?
  2. nVidia control panel --> manage 3D settings --> program settings tab --> GTA V --> power management mode --> "prefer maximum performance" --> enjoy Please understand, if your GPU usage is low and the cards aren't being "stressed" enough, it'll only keep your base clocks of 720MHz.
  3. Even without "pushing boundaries", the problem is "lack of control". Everything being locked down is for people who want to pay for Macs. Our QA and QS doesn't come close to the shit we get with a Mac, but our prices are still high as shit and our support is half-assed and half of these retailers don't know what the hell is going on with their own machines. We pay for top end hardware, we demand control of it.
  4. Yeah. I know about the power circuitry nerf and it's why I called the 980Ms the "680M part 2" all the time, even though ignoring the performance of it all and looking at the quality of the parts they used, they're far far far worse. And as far as maxwell rebrands... I think they're pointless for the most part. They can't stretch their legs post 60Hz at 1080p because of CPU limitations and they aren't strong enough to reliably 4K (where the CPU would not be limited at all). And then we have the masses buying Y50s like hotcakes and ASUS machines like hotcakes and not caring about CPU strength or control or overclocking or anything. And thus the world moves on without us.
  5. Well they're still making mobile quads, but just terrible HQ ones. And MSI's GT60/GT70 is still running too. They just cannot make board revisions or anything to them, as that'd require them to make BGA sockets. But yeah, Intel wants integrated only. Only Clevo feels like bothering to use the desktop chips. It's the end of a long era. I can hope it'll rise again after being killed like a phoenix, but I doubt it. I just do.
  6. This is the whole point. Clevo really doesn't care. I mean they make powerful systems, and regardless of overclocking the GPUs are powerful. But their general locked BIOSes and other such things just show they're more caring of their corporate customers I'd say. *sigh* I called it. I called it last year when this was gaining traction and it's shown up now, in full force. I can't even say to go MSI because MSI is still using HQ chips, even though they promised they'd never block OCing with vBIOS etc.
  7. Yeah. This is my last gaming laptop. I'll keep it probably for as long as relevant, but the market just doesn't seem to care as a whole, and the makers are dead set on breaking us.
  8. Ok ok ok. So let me get this straight. nVidia first released drivers and vBIOSes with OC being blocked. Then they release exactly two drivers which ignore the vBIOS flag to block overclocking, as per promised. Then while this is stewing, they start pushing OEMs and ODMs to introduce a BIOS-level OC block in GeForce GPUs, which is deeper than the vBIOS block, then release another driver (almost necessary for the big boy GTA 5 for some people)... which, while not "disabling" OCing, does not ignore the OC block in affected vBIOSes. And I'm to assume they are pushing for OC blocked vBIOSes again too? What was that turnaround time, a month? Why does Intel and nVidia find it so fucking hard to make good products for the mobile market? I don't know how to explain what I'm feeling, especially since I neither have a system that is affected by it nor will I likely ever have one the rate things are going, but it makes me want to scream and cry at the same time, to see something dear to me just... fall apart, without ANY reasoning whatsoever. I don't even have any hope that AMD could begin to provide competition anymore. They've seen it fit to rebrand their entire line in the mobile market, as far as all information points. Tonga is terrible in the M295X, and it doesn't even hold a candle to a stock 980M anyway, so it's all but pointless. 980Ms have VRMs purposefully left off according to meaker's testing; so that people wouldn't OC them like a bat out of hell like is done on the 970Ms. And we all know Clevo isn't particularly keen on making sure their users can overclock their GPUs... And to top it all off, if I were to grab a pair of 980Ms or whatnot, I don't even have a BIOS that'll let me use 3D vision with them, which would be perfect with how well they'd run GTA 5 (which has an excellent rating) despite owning the actual 3D model of a notebook. Something I've always wanted to have. AND THIS IS UNRELATED BUT MY 4800MQ IS A PIECE OF CRAP AND CAN'T BE STRESSED FOR LONG AT 3.9GHz WITHOUT A BLACK-SCREEN SHUTDOWN SO I LEAVE IT AT STOCK. *RAGE*
  9. Why would anyone leave the OC block in XD. Let's all overclock till we drop!
  10. I can't help but feel slightly jealous that single 980M users are coming close to (or beating) my highest stable single-brick run for firestrike. Just need to get a long-lost billionaire uncle to be like "hey, have a $5000/week allowance" or something. XD
  11. Exactly. All I do now is "enter" their "benchmark compilations" threads on various forums. When you show results they end up going "woah, that is one badass laptop!" instead of "lol, why you OCing on a laptop for?". I think that's the only route available to us. If they ask what model it is, give it to them and say "you can't do this anymore, because everything is integrated and TDP locked. But they're thin now! So that's good, right?"
  12. AMD cards do it all the time. Buy 7950, unlock 7970, profit. But R9 290, unlock R9 290X, profit. nVidia has it too. Buy GTX 680, pop off 1 capacitor, instant Quadro K5000
  13. Well at least for now it's a useful workaround =D. Glad to see it works so well for you Tom
  14. Does this mean you've managed to keep the older driver cores but keep the new updates like MFAA/DSR (whenever that's released)/SLI profiles/game-specific driver updates? If so, then this is perfect. If not, then we might as well just use 344.75 until it reaches its end of life.
  15. I... don't think a 650M is going to do much of anything in Star Citizen, no matter how much you overclock it.
  16. I quite like Evolve, actually. I'd love to play more of it in the future. I don't find being a monster stressful so much as fun, though.
  17. I like to play sidescrollers/platformers/racing/fighting/action adventure MELEE COMBAT type games with a controller. But the best is when a game lets you swap between controller and keyboard by simply using the controls of the input device. I did that with Sleeping Dogs; controller for melee/driving/interacting and KBM for shooting times. It was great. Also, Dark Souls. Controller. I need not say moar.
  18. While this may be true indeed, it is still very poor on the manufacturers to have certain levels of unoptimization in games these days. With the amount of work they do on consoles, you'd think they could let things run free on PC, but nope.
  19. No, it's just an unlocking of the BIOS. If you want to overclock, you could overclock it. But the BIOS simply disables GPU boost for consistency and such. It doesn't really BOOST performance, it's meant to let you be more easily able to boost your performance on your own.
  20. Hi, would just like to make a quick inquiry. If I used the nvflash tool that lets me work from command prompt, will it flash the card just as well? If I must do it the long way that's fine, but it'd be nicer if I could do it without wiping my drive, flashing, then re-making it into a bootable win 7 drive like it is now.
  21. He needs to get 4 more quality posts though before he can see those manuals; if I remember correctly.
  22. Wow, I can't believe that shipped out. You'd think someone would notice it before it left; assuming it wasn't damaged in shipping. I don't know if reflex notebook offers this feature, but they can send you a replacement part and you can send back the defective part; it's called a Cross-ship according to XoticPC back over on NBR. They won't cross-ship for everything, though. They may not want to let you get a screen that way. If you know where to find a disassembly guide though (I believe there's one on this forum you can get access to when you make enough quality posts) you can try to do it yourself, but if you mess up that'll be the end of your warranty.
  23. The current generations of the clevos seem to have bad sound, save for the P3xxSMx models. I would either suggest an external sound card as was previously suggested, or simply a set of USB speakers or a USB headset; as these have their own "sound cards" and will provide the same sounds on any system regardless of onboard sound or not.
