I'll look into it deeper later on... Interesting i find MR5870 and FirPro M7820 using the same AMD reference circuit. I remember back in time i did gf fx5700 mod to quadro fx1100 with vbios and some of the resistors on the die needed to be repositioined...if i get it working post it anyway. Btw: M7820 has Overdrive enabled by default

Hi! Just made an experiment.... Since i using Photoshop a lot, decided to grab the ATI FirePro vbios from my friend's Dell Precision M6500. I flashed it to my MR 5870 take out my 2nd card and ..... NOTHING... My spaceship booted up with black screen.... Did not give me the dell error crap [flashing(caps+croll)+stady num] mean the gpu failed to initialize. i pluged in my mini pci-e debug card may it give me a clue, it said the POST was completed and handling the call to the OS loader. So had a nice BLIND Flash... Just for practice It is the limitation the M17X-R2 BIOS or the M7820 VBIOS. My friends dont want me to take his laptop GPU out because is a company property.... :S I not even sure the FirePro M support the Crossfire PRO or not. Would be nice. Anyone a thought??? M7820.zip

I sure there will be a few people willing to pay you if they screw up something. and you could do the same with R2 BIOS wich is an SST25VF040B i seen sometimes the fn+B just won't work because the BOOT BLOCK in the eeprom missing or corrupt. I would recommend to reflash it ATI recommended way just cause. I would do it, but is your option. Happy you managed to solve the problem. And you gained new level of experience,you know you can fix it if is happen next and is feels good...Just a tiny 128KB code, could cause so much problem.... LOL

flash it now from DOS with the original VBIOS and you good to go! the programmers sometimes messing with the addresses. Example atiflash start writing from a specific adress to a specific adress. Dont worry if you flash it it will work. Good job. and congrat.

You could try install vmware and install a clean win xp i use it for different things like repairing mobiles...vmware able to redirect the usb commands.

I had it with dell a few times from china, they took my new lappy to a worldwide tour.I was completely out... i'am in uk and from germany my lappy went back in hongkong, than NY/US > France > UK ??? Any logic in it???

I using G.Skill long time ago never had trouble. BSOD i had twice since i installed 920XM ES ,problem caused by the motion sensor...i not installing it anymore.

I feel sorry for you...Wouldn't be just easier to cancel,refund, than order?? So tidious, is tipical dell...Customer rep does not understand english properly, you try to explain a technical term, why is your laptop not working. The answer you get is "remove the battery unplug the PSU and hold power for 20sec"???? They almost never call you, you want something you call dell.Finally when they approve the replacement, it takes longer to get than, if you place a new order... C'mon dell you can do better... Wouldn't a customer paid few 1000 for a product deserves better service? BTW: checked dell site they removed the M17X-R2 so in the future is someone get replacement probablly we have to take the R3 or M18X.

I got 3x M17X replaced on me, 1x R1x and 2x R2. To solve my last problem I had to invoke “Sales of Goods ACT” I still with my warranty and dell cannot credit me.<o:p></o:p>

I dont seen option like that in my .... and my is also blinking 3/4 times. I find the "intel PXE" more annoying than the blinking cursor, specially when i hit F12 in the wrong time is try boot from my WDS server... is nothing we can do about the blinking cursor... :S

Nothing to worry about the BIOS handling the boot to the OS...If you plug a testcard in the mpci slot it will tell you what happening exactly. I agree SORRY. I dont have m18X and i dont think i'll, at least for now... LOL Factory goes by numbers, they doont care if your laptop hot you can cook eggs on it...for me always the 1st to repaste it OOBE ...LOL I've seen the tech doc of m18x looks solid design on gpu cooling 3 heat-pipe. and dell uses the same HDD caddy from XPS M1730 Funny...LOL

I never let any engineer touch my laptop since my XPS M1730 and 1st M17X, In my XPS he broke my LCD.... In my M17X he broke my keyboard ESC+END key and scratched the lid with the screwdriver.... and he had no idea how to start take it apart... when i had my 2nd m17x and the 1st engeneer came i just told him i don't want him to touch my laptop, i explained the reason he called dell took 30min. When he finnished the call i already changed the motherboard and tested it. LOL he said is an hour job. (for him,not for me) next time he came, just dropped the parts and he disapeared in town... since than i had no problem, just need to explain them why i dont want him to do...

Nice find apart from one thing, it says "glue" is there any chance it can be removed safely??? It happened with me a few times OEM paste burned into the cpu "nicely" gluing the heat sink and cpu as one ... when i tried to remove the heat sink, it just ripped the cpu off without i could open the zif socket. If you know you never going to touch it is good, but you cannot be sore.

Probably dell sent you the A00 version, whitch is a bit dodgy. I have sent a few pair A00 back to dell, with the engineer who bought them. As soon i see the label A00 dint even took my lappy apart. they did it 2x with me. Dell just try get rid of the old stock. The best, contact dell and SEND IT BACK!!!

Aye. PhysX is a good idea if you have separate card to do it, like Ageia did. Ofcourse if you have a few 1000 to spend on a quad GPU setup you lose the point to care about it.

That could be true . If AMD commit to go down that way, they may got a good chance to overthrow consol gaming, pc could finally win. Both side right btw DirectX is a good thing until a certain point from a certain angle of view. But othter hand, DX just a brake holding back the GPU to releaase its full furry. Like in the past we had it with 3dfx, glide launcher for the big game titles.Radeon could be our new 3dfx???. Wouldn't surprised if that idea came from an ex 3dfx engeneer works for AMD now. will see anyway is just my speculation. Radeon i beleive already superior, less problem less heat no PhysX... be honestly does anyone seriously missing nv physx efects? Does it really worth to cut the 3d performance so the GPU 30% calculating PhysX. Ageia HAD the right way PPU card....

Back to old days.... LOL every developer have to compile different executables for different GPUs. Fortunatelly there aren't as many GPU developer remain in market as in 1998, today only 2 player.
