  1. The screen of the M18x, due to the fact that it is 18.4" and it has lower resolution it will have 119.72 PPI (more is better) and 0.2122mm dot pitch(lower is better) The screen of the M17x R2, has 133.19 PPI (more is better), 0.1907mm dot pitch(lower is better) plus it is WLED vs RGB LED so.....

  3. From what I can see of the M18x photos it's going to have a rubber palm rest and the rest will be aluminum--very nice design decision by Dell. The soft touch palm rest feels really good once you try it. I loved it on the M17x-R3 an I'm sure it will be just as good on the M18x. My biggest complaint of the R3 has been addressed with M18x: Aluminum lid + chasis. This combines the best features into one product. Just wish it had IGP support but I'll deal. Hmm I see the following config in my near future: Nebula Red Avenger 2720QM (can't afford 2920xm yet) 4 GB 1333 mhz ram (gonna upgrade to aftermarket 8-16 GB 1600 mhz) 2 x 500 gb seagate momentus xt intel wireless Blu ray rom AMD 6970M Crossfire My first red Alienware, I never tried it before and frankly didn't really like it but I figured I'll try something different this time since all I've purchased in the past is black. Wish they had kept silver.

  5. I wouldn't necessarily say nVidia has better driver support. There are tons of people frustrated with their drivers, just as many if not more than AMD. Both companies are on nearly even footing with regards to driver quality. However, for linux and certain applications, nVidia has better compatibility and performance. Gaming performance is nearly identical for both cards but the 485M consumes a lot more power and costs a lot more. Yeah you can output 3D via hdmi 1.4 but how often will you do that? If you see yourself doing it often, then go for nVidia. Personally I think 3D gaming is a gimmick.

  9. -posted by DR650SE posts 126 on this thread {Dry ice sublimates (turns to gas and expands if not kept at a temp lower than -109F. If you put it in a sealed aluminum container, you better stand back, as it will explode. It's frozen CO2 which is why it skips the liquid phase and turns to gas, which is why if felt comfortable putting it straight on the CPU and GPU heatsinks. Most people when benching put it in a copper pot which sits on the CPU die/GPU die/mem. Then they fill it wil isopropol alcohol and put the dice in it so that it spreads the cold and sucks the heat out of the CPU. I tried to make a cheap makeshift dice pot out of a copper pipe cap and pipe, but it didn't work as well, and I'm guessing because it wasn't perfectly smooth to mate with the cpu die. So I resorted to putting it on the heatsink to cool the heatsink and thus the CPU.} if you look at his pic closely the only vapor is hovering around the dry ice and none if any frost has showed on his exposed metal heat sinks as one might think should happen. But i am sure that he has that rag around the area for the reason of prevention in case there is some condensation.
