US pricing should be about $1920-$2000 starting. If you need help with the ordering process, just PM me and I'll forward the system to you. I did the same for Jubbin when he purchased his M17x-R2.3 points

According to the NBR forums LVNeptune has discovered that the clevo 485m he bought for use in his M17x R3 was manufactured by DELL. Now, why would this be? Why would dell build notebook graphics cards to sell to a competitor? I think we will see the M18x get the 485m very soon after launch, or perhaps with launch. Additionally, when the m18x gets it, so will the m17x R3. Im excited! -Ash2 points

Geoffx and vlads24 (or vads24 can't remember) were being bickering little 5-year olds on the point of getting the 485m. I told them to shut it and GTFO, but they didn't and batboy shut us down. The new thread doesn't seem to have much going on, they contacted Nvidia, but of course got no reply. So far, the 485m works with the 120hz screen, but not with 3d, and fans have to be set manually with Hwin32 <--(I think that's what it is called?)2 points

2 x Nvidia Geforce 485M Notebook Grafikkarte SLI | eBay If I had no GF, and wasnt about to move house... /drool. If alienware wont supply them I woulda tried to add them myself. Ah, but to dream! -Ash EDIT: Holy fuck scratch one up for Australia - http://www.logicalblueone.com.au/store/notebook-parts/426-nvidia-gtx4.html First time I have ever seen Australia have something cheaper than the USA. -Ash2 points

download CF Extension program, ill try to find the link it allows you to set a custom CF profile on any game that launches. They talk about it here having trouble finding a working download link. Let me know if it helps and you can find it if not I believe I have it and can upload it for you some how. I hope you're right about the subwoofer, it's one thing I felt that was severely lacking in the R2 and R3. Well I think it will be released in a week from now. The problem is that they are testing the configuration on their live website for testing purposes and it's getting people excited. I do agree they should issue a press release for two new exciting models. I just hope Dell doesn't decide to push M14x and M18x back to E3.2 points

Both monitors where calibrated with the same Spyder 3 Pro calibrator The Dell monitor with sRGB profile selected, at 100% brightness, 50% contrast Dell with Adobe RGB profile selected, 75% Brightness Dell monitor with Adobe RGB profile, 30% Brightness I will stick with the 30% brightness since its not straining my eyes and the colors are very similar between the two screens. UPDATE Final settings are here http://forum.techinferno.com/alienware-m17x/286-dell-u2410-vs-alienware-m17x-r2-rgb-led-1200p.html#post2340 -note- Unfortunately I have borrowed my camera to someone else and I had to take pictures with my cellphone which sucks big time... the colors are completely different than those on the pics... anyways it's better than nothing. First chance I will have, I will upload better quality pics.1 point

In all honesty, I am probably gonna get her sprayed in auto paint. Black is my usually color, but it's a little boring, and I always liked the color of the Dell Covet (my second fav lappy). So if anyone has a request and they dont have photoshop skillz, post here and I will give it a shot. -Ash1 point

To me the M18x is the best looking AW laptop made so far. The R3 is obviously almost as nice since they have similar designs but construction quality difference between the two will be huge. Bottom line is they address two very different markets. The R3 is for people that want a semi portable gaming laptop and the M18x is for full on performance enthusiasts that demand the absolute best in everything. For me neither is really the ideal fit, the M14x fits that perfectly so once I review the M18x, it's going up for sale most likely.1 point

My guess would be it's hard to cool down any graphic beast if you go with thin factor in mind. I wouldn't mind thick, if it can be made lighter. It just seems way too heavy imo. M11x is too heavy too in that respect. I know it's not a good comparison, but if you compare to Thinkpads which lack dedicated GPU you have T420 @ 4.3lbs (vs M14x @ 7 lbs) and X220 @ 3.3-3.8 lbs (vs M11x @ 5lbs). I do agree - something portable but still relatively powerful and well built.1 point

If they send me a lump sum bill, they will be breaking my financial contracts with them. I plan to accept both systems, sell 1, invest payment in my usual places, then pay off sold system (minus 11 monthly payments) in full after 11 months.1 point

http://forum.techinferno.com/alienware-m17x/64-unlocked-alienware-m17x-r2-bios-version-1-released.html To let you know I've tried it myself, it's not bad but there is nothing special in it at all yet at version 1 that it is at except unlocking bios 1-5% overclock on non-XM cpu's. That is pretty cool, I have an XM though so it doesn't help me but very well could help you.1 point

well i keep systems for 4-5 years historically. so buying an 18x now makes sence. my17x r3 will be here the 21st as i said so ill see what the release holds for the 18. i get best of both worlds, try out a 17 and if its not my hearts desire i send it back for an 18.1 point

The temps were fine, but I couldn't get a clear read from them all. LVNeptune kept saying the fans were working fine, but wouldn't answer if they ran auto or manually. The temps were very good though, around 55C ideal, and 73-78load Heya Joker! I see a buncha guys from laptop review forums here. Much more laid back, very awesome1 point

If only intel and sandforce would work together... That might be the end of ocz, corsair, crucial, kingston, and pretty much every other ssd. You would have to pay a premium, but you would get both RELIABILITY and PERFORMANCE. Rumors that they might work together on the next gen ssd I heard?1 point

^^ the problem with that approach is that the R2 is loosing value quite fast, so for me selling it to get $$ for the new AW generation was a no-brainer.1 point

Any more news about the m18x? I starting to get withdrawals and I need my fix1 point
-
Well I plan to get the base config so I didn't ask about options. The best bet is to do the same as me and get base everything and upgrade it yourself. Get 1600 mhz ram + 2920xm and you'll have a super fast system on your hands at a fraction of the price dell would sell it at.1 point
-
Wow thats a lot of cash... how much will the 2820qm upgrade be, and how much to get one off ebay and slap it in? Also, how much ram for that? Im hoping 16gb at least. -Ash1 point

Thanks, Brian I was pissed about this at first, but now I really don't care to be honest. I'm very pleased with the support: It's so good, they're sending me TWO replacements! haha1 point

That's very nice of you Brain. I really hope I can find a way to get the M18 as a replacement.1 point

Ok! Good news! Just got off the phone with alienware new system agent. I told him I wanted to cancel my m17x order and get an 18x and am willing to spend more money to do it. He confirmed the m18x is comming very soon, withen my 21 day return period, edd is the 21st, he said to call him back and he can arrainge an rma with no restocking fee. I'll have it ordered on it's release day and expect a very thorough gamut of benchmarks upon arrival! =)1 point

Nice run man, it seems the GPU starts becoming CPU limited after 850ish. I bet a 2920xm is needed to push it much further than 4200.1 point

there are no specs yet. just the promise it'll outperform the standard version. worth 100$? probably not, the 240gb version is king of the hill already...1 point

I am also very interested in WiHD technology. if it works as advertised who needs game consoles ?1 point

Yeah I don't think a 240W PSU would cut it for an 18.4" display and dual 6970M. The 6970M at peak load can pull close to 100W so you're looking at 200W with just the graphics cards alone. Unless they severely underclock/undervolt the 6970Ms for the M18x, I don't see this as a possibility, especially given the fact that Dell is advertising 4 GHz overclocks on an extreme processor. I think we'll have a 330W PSU to go with a high end configuration. As for the battery life argument, a DTR this size of course will be tethered most of the time but there are plenty of occasions where battery life is important. For example if you're on a commuter train, airplane, car ride or if you're crazy enough to take it to class (when I started medical school, I used to take my M1710 to classes regularly) and don't have an outlet near by. I'd definitely appreciate IGP support but I'll still get the system even if it doesn't have it.1 point

Sounds great ! But I am wondering why... They went with 2X USB 2.0 and 2X USB 3.0 instead of going 4 X USB 3.0 ??? (apart from the ESATA3/USB2 port) Just hope they went with SATA3 inside for the drives... Maybe they should have included a thunderbolt port instead of this dowdy VGA that no one ever uses anymore since two thousands lightyears ? Finally, I'm just hoping this google translation is right, and that the subwoofer is not tied to an expensive option (seems there's two choices for the audio card). We'll see in times I guess. Thanks for the heads-up !1 point

I like to ram picture with the CPU text, and cpu picture with ram text! Avenger is an awesomely sexy beast! I'd love to get me one of those and send it in for a powder coating. Too bad I fall into the "wife would divorce my ass" category if I purchased one with the specs I want (which is essentially my r3 but with 2920xm - Don't really NEED dual 6970!) Green with envy over the possible OC of the XM! Here's hoping TS can work some magic, but even just the unlocked multi will be amazing1 point

Well it's not the same motherboard for sure since that is impossible considering the features and layout. The M18x mainboard is built for dual GPU and officially supports HDMI 1.4 + 32 GB memory. The chipset MIGHT be the same but we really don't know yet. Although if I remember correctly, HM55 is not listed as a dual GPU chipset.1 point

If Dell can deliver an 18.4" WLED with 90% gamut and 300 nit brightness, I'd take that over RGB LED. I hope so because in the promotional photos, they claim it's the best AW notebook display yet.1 point
