M18xR1 with GTX 880M

Recommended Posts

The gtx 880m gets very hot under load.

Your temperatures are a high but not critical.

I would repaste your gpu.

do you use a 100w heatsink for the gtx 880m in your aw 18?

Probably the Heatsink is old and faulty.

Another option is repasting the gtx 880m or downclock it a little bit.

Also you can use Fan control.

I would say that's a bit high, mine M18x R1 880m SLI was hitting 82 with the 580ms heatsinks. I've done another repaste, and it's around 75-77 nowadays.

to control your fans use this

http://www.hwinfo.com/download64.html

its pretty simple to use

install it and get to this page and click on the sensors button

Picture

then on the next screen click the small fan icon at the bottom

unless you want to manually adjust your fan between each time you play click customer auto and you can edit it from there

as for your underclocking

download and install NV tools

http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvidia-system-tools-6.08-driver.html

on the left hand side, under the performance tab, select device settings

nvidia-system-tools-overclock1.jpg

now just slide it back until you are comfortable with the temps

aim for about 70-75*C

hope this helps you a bit.:hyper:

PS avoid EVGA's tuning tool on alienware i have heard it can brick your LCD!

This is just a smaller version of my main post have a read if you like

After changing termal past i have with FurMark max 87c after 20 min of testing in 1920x1080 resolution. It's normal for GTX 880M? i have another Notebook with GTX 970M and max temp is 61c after 20 min of FurMark test.
