[Mod][Photoguide] CM Storm SF-19 dustfilter and anti-vibration mod by Simplified

Recommended Posts

I modded my CM storm SF-19 to filter dust and to vibrate less.

The result turned out to be excellent.

Q&A

Q: Will this block my airflow?

A: Not much, further down in the guide I am showing you the famous paper test after modification.

Q: Does the anti-vibration mod work well?

A: There will still be vibrations, but much less.

What do you need?

-Rubber tape

-Electical tape

-Mosquito net

The dustfilter mod

Step 1: Cut your mosquito net to fit the underneath of your cooler

Step 2: Tape it to the bottom of the cooler

The anti-vibration mod

Step 1: Cut your tape to the correct size.

Step 2: Wrap the plastic knobs with the rubber tape.

Step 3: Reattach the fans to the grill

step 4: Tape the mosquito net over the grill.

Airflow is still strong

As you can see in this picture, the paper is lifted quite high into the air. I am holding down one corner of the paper with a rubber hammock feet.

Just as a safety precaution

I am not responsible if any damage occurs

The End

Here is a picture after 2 days. Seems quite effective.

Ok, cool! So you just have to clean this once in a while.

After a few days the net starts to get dirty. I recommend to clean it atleast once every 2-3 weeks.

Thanks!

Once a week should be fine. It depends on how dusty your room is. My computer is in a bedroom, so it is in general more dusty than an average room.

A nylon stocking will work. You can cut the nylon stocking and stretch it to fit the back of the cooler.

@Simplified how that dust filter still working... I have a feeling anything you've caught with your filter you can safely say that you have prevented all that dust from entering you CPU and you fan compartments.

The dustfilter is working great. I will take a photo of it later when I come home. Since I posted this thread I have cleaned it twice. Both times it was clogged with dust.

Sorry for the late reply...

Most of the dust is drawn towards the center.

I took 3 pictures of the net. Its about 10 days + since I cleaned it.

The net looks totally nasty with particles all over with extra much in the center of the fanpositions. This is taken with my phone camera, but on the 2nd picture the particles are rather visable.

There are several threads on requesting BIOS modifications here on T | I but I thought another one wouldn't hurt.

            Your request should look like:
Brand Model Type of modification(For example: Unlocked, added support, Logo, microcode, ME firmware etc
I'll respond as soon as I have time as I'm also currently working on other projects(Requests by PM is also ok)
If anyone else have the knowledge and time feel free to respond to requests

      Hello,

I am new on this forum, so I am sorry if posting at the wrong place. It's been 2 weeks that I am searching how to make my GTX 980M 8GB working Inside my Alienware 17 R1 (June 2014, i7 4710MQ, 60 Herts Display, OPTIMUS and the GTX 880M Inside died.)
After "quickly" looking some forums, I saw that a 980M would easily fit Inside … but maybe I was wrong.

Hardware wasn't a problem. I've also could install drivers by modding the nvdmi or nvcvi. inf files. The card was recognied BUT :
the clock speed is locked a 135 or 405 Mherts and fan is not runing when booted up.
I tried to flash vBios with nvflash and some ROM I found on vBios collection … but no way to get this working properly.

So, i'm coming here. I've seen many people talking about Prema or svl7 or other big boss in the place … but ? how ? where ? when ?

Inside the peripherial manager I have this in remote acces path : PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1617&SUBSYS_05AA1028&REV_A1\4&D590A51&0&0008
So I assume my GTX 980M card ID is 1617 and vendor and PC Model are 05AA 1028.
But near the "Standard Microsoft Video Card" there is a yellow exclamation point and Inside details it says "this peripherial doesn't work properly" when no Nvidia drivers installed.
I could find some vBios with 1617 (Asus) but black screen at boot up. Since laptop model where not the same .. probably.
And I wasn't able to find 1617 with the existing 05AA 1028 … as the GTX 980M was not an option for my model. (AW 17 R1 2014 ,60Herts)
I tried 353.60, 382.33 and 419.35 drivers. The latest one seems easier to install but longer.

BIOS is A16 from Dell. And I am using Windows 10. Got a Dell 330W brick.

I saw a guy with the exact model as me, he gets a modded vBios especially for his configuration, then everything worked easily … but can't find the topic again

I guess depending on the card info and the laptop model … a dedicated vBios is required …

So, If anyone here got some informations or any kind of help for me, it would be very nice.

      Thanks for reading and help.

PS: there are a lot of files, pictures and links that I can't see on this forum .. even after registration ….
