Lenovo Y510p w/ 7260HMW AC Wireless. Please Assist. First Time on Forum.

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I have recently bought a Lenovo Y510p. So far I have had a horrible time with my decision as it is a good laptop, but I had bought the single GT755 model. My bios version is V3.05. my computer will not boot past "Unauthorized wireless network card is plugged in. Power off and remove it." I do know that there are other forums that cover this issue but I am unable to download the files needed to correct the issue, because the website says I do not have access yet. Is there a way to do this without the files or how would I go about getting access to download them from the moderators?

You need to either sign up for the premium membership with a donation, or have 5 quality posts. Check the forum rules, there are more details there. You are close to 5 though!

I just bought that same card for my Y500, I already have my bios updated and unlocked. So you will need to do the same. I think you will want to put the old wifi card back in, get this all wrapped up. Remove old drivers, install new ones and then pop the 7260 back in and enjoy it.

Awesome! Thank you that definitely lifts a weight off of my shoulders, lol. I am really excited to try this new card out as I do quite a bit of gaming on this laptop when not at my pc. Thank you for the reply. I hope to search through the forums myself and hopefully lend a helping hand as well. Also, while learning as much as possible.

You don't need an upgrade especially from lenovo. You need to remove the whitelist from the bios so you can install your new wifi card. You actually have to downgrade to version 2.07 and follow the step as mention by "kevzho". After doing the mod, check your fan to see if it works properly under load, some ppl have problem with the fan controller after the mod.

Currently I am using Nvidia 376.44 version for SLI functionality. On trying to install any higher version , SLI wont function & only 1 card works.

if anyone is using higher version Than the one mentioned above for SLI, please let me know

      Thank You

Hey Everyone. I'm looking through the forums and found out that I can make my old Lenovo a Hackintosh. Is it worth doing? Can you dual boot Windows 10 and OS10?

      Hi all,

I'm debating whether or not to replace the thermal paste in my Lenovo y510p. I've started overclocking a bit, and I have an external fan, but I would like to not have to run the fan as fast because it is a little loud. I have been reading a bit about different thermal pastes, and I'm wondering if there is even a big difference between stock thermal paste, and something like the liquid metal from thermal grizzly. It sounds like it'd work better, but I don't want to fall for a good marketing scheme. If anyone has experience with this and has or hasn't seen big differences, your input would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks in advance!

      Hi,

I recently bought the new Toshiba RC100 m.2 2242 NVMe SSD for my Lenovo Y510p which has an m.2 port in it.
After installation the SSD wasn't showing up in my BIOS and also not on my OS Win 10 disk management. So I did a bit of research and installed mod BIOS for my Y510p by following the steps in the link: ( https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/3546-lenovo-y410p-y510p-unlocked-bios-wlan-whitelist-mod-vbios-mod/ )
There are a lot more options in the BIOS menu now.
Even after doing the mod it's not showing up. The SSD works on my friend's "new 2017 dell gaming laptop" which has m.2 ssd support in it. I don't know what exactly to configure my BIOS to make it work. I've just done some hit-and-trial configs which have eventually failed.
If someone can help solve it Pleasee!!

P.S. : I can share all the available options available in the BIOS if required.
