@godfafa nv_dispi.inf_v344.80 (only) don't use it together with nvcvi.inf/modded (Clevo) or any other modded inf, to avoid OEM customization.

First uninstall drivers under 'Programs & Features' -> reboot -> F8 Safe Mode -> run DDU/latest version (Clean and Shutdown).

BIOS settings. Disable IGP and set PEG, Secure Boot/Fast Boot disabled (m18xR2).

@mikecacho

BIOS settings -> UEFI enabled -> Legacy ROM disabled -> Secure Boot/Fast Boot disabled -> F10

BIOS -> disable the integrated graphics - Second Advanced Menu -> Video Configuration -> disable IGP -> set display to PEG -> Exit menu "Save without Exit" option -> Shutdown.

Install 980M.

F8 Boot options 'Safe Mode' & 'Disabe driver signature enforcement'.

cmd (Admin)

bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy

-> reboot -> F8 'Safe mode' run DDU "Clean and Shutdown" option -> Power on, F8 'Disable driver signing'.

Extract Geforce 344.80 Beta

Display.Driver folder, copy/overwrite nv_dispi.inf

nv_dispi.inf_v344.80(2)_AW_GTX_980M.zip

@J95 @mikecacho

Throttle again.

1. vbios changed to v10

2. UEFI without legacy rom, secure/fast boot disabled

3. windows 8.1 fresh installation

4. Dell driver installation

5. 344.80 with inf mod.

-> again throttles. FPS drops to half.

I tried to release all the CPU OC.

-> no change of GPU throttle.

Damn :(

4. Dell driver installation. Don't use nvdmi.inf anymore.

Yeah I did disable IGP and set PEG.

I didn't use any nvdmi.inf mod.

Just download 344.80 and copied the nv_dispi.inf to the nvidia display.driver folder.

"Dell driver" that I meant was all the other drivers (not including intel graphics or dell OEM nvidia).

What would alter the display adapter to cause such an issue, J95 are there settings that can be disabled in the bios or registry you can think of that would prevent this from happening? This makes no sense to me on why this is happening. :cower:

I am testing this single. I have tested SLI too. Same issue.

I dont think 980m works well in alienware now.

I am one of the person who have tested 980m for the longest time on alienware.

Now I am thinking that 980m should not be used in alienware if you dont want to waste your money.

Surely its system rather than driver related then? Need a bios tweak?

I dont think this is driver.

Because if it is driver problem, why did it work yesterday and not today?

It is something about board.

Too much high-pitch abnormal sound is heard when 980m runs at normal clock.

This is very strange. All three 980m that I tested had this high pitch sound. (I dont know how you guys call this. this sound can be heard sometimes in PSU)
