4DoorGTZ
I use a Zalman 3000 just like the OP to cool my Clevo D900f, got it for the large fan and large cfm.
Samzflow
I have a HP 8540w that overheats and auto shuts down unless I have it on my Coolermaster U2, the one with two removeable fans. If you plan to bring your cooler around with you, its realy handy as the laptop fits into the stand and takes up no extra space in your bag. Its not exactly a high performance cooler but simply elevating the laptop off the table is quite a big help.
darkhawk
I really wanted a good cooler for my GT70 while I was at home. I generally use it mostly at home, but I do take it to work with me every day as well. I wanted something that was simple enough that I didn't have to fiddle with switches all the time, or with plugging it in, and still provided very good air flow. Long story short, there were no good solutions commercially available. Targus, CoolerMaster, and many others, were basically just fans that blew air at the bottom of the laptop. This really doesn't help airflow much, if any to be perfectly honest. So I drew up in Autocad, a simple box. From there, it morphed into what you see below in the pictures. The actual plastic part took the most time, simply because custom fitting everything really is a pain in the butt. The wiring was actually very easy and simple. I added the switch, so that I never have to do ANYTHING to turn this on, just place the laptop there and it turns the fans on. The power supply is a wall wart that can output +12VDC@800 mA, more than enough to run the fans and some LED's eventually. I haven't finished the LED's yet, as they require a bit more time to get all the wiring done properly.Overall, I don't have any temperature information on how much it might help at this point, and I'm not sure I want to dig that deep. I'm very happy with the solution, and once I get the LED's added, I'll be sure to post more pictures.https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-FS8vDv22zaQ/UZN_sWScD1I/AAAAAAAAHks/cshPgewU79s/w1045-h784-no/IMG_20130515_081749https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-qrp9M-ndYyE/UZN_vijFUpI/AAAAAAAAHk0/LbwLreSDvWI/w1045-h784-no/IMG_20130515_081736https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-3rOyhr-t9XA/UZN_xl1MvWI/AAAAAAAAHk8/AvCkIztYLAU/w1045-h784-no/IMG_20130515_081724https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-MAoyxwbRGgU/UZN_z0YKVeI/AAAAAAAAHlE/HXEGCPDp604/w1045-h784-no/IMG_20130515_081641https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7kNzD4l25gs/UZN_2KQ3J8I/AAAAAAAAHlM/TuV4C5ye3Ro/w1045-h784-no/IMG_20130515_081631https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-6fWQ99pl4Hg/UZN_4hkPZ4I/AAAAAAAAHlU/N1Lfy5VYmqo/w1045-h784-no/IMG_20130515_081620After some initial testing, I was running my laptop at 1GHz GPU Core clock, which previously I topped out at around 941 MHz GPU Core clock and still had a stable notebook while gaming.Surprisingly, even with this extremely high overclock now, the laptop stayed within the 60C +/- 3C range without any issues......I'm really impressed and happy, since these were extra fans I removed from an old Desktop computer a long time ago. invictadeus
Zm-nc2000 is quite nice. A little on the pricey side but keeps my laptop very cool. Heck I've seen it drop my laptop into the 20''s degrees Celsius. And when surfing the web keeps it in the 40's. Even with it overclocked games that stress the gpu's to the fullest such as crisis 3 still don't push the gpu's temps past the high 70's.

omega53
I use "laptop lifts" as Brian mentioned. They stick on the base of the machine with 3m double side adhesive and lift the laptop significantly off the desk. Great improvement and is all that is needed. I think this is the route Ill be taking. I just cant see spending $40-60 on a fan
terzer
Yesterday I bought Cooler Master U2 pad for my Dell 7720SE laptop, I positioned the fans directly under the laptop fan and I can say I see 3-4 degrees C improvement. However the 2 fans are noticeable, maybe I'll buy bigger and more silent fan to replace them...

Mabashi
I use the same Zalman NC 3000 that the OP posted. It works well and is silent but occasionally (pretty rare) i notice that the weight of my laptop causes the fan to make a scrapping noise.
luciela
You know, one might also be interested in the notepal U3. It has 3 customizable fans and I've heard some great stuff from both forumers and friends alike. As a matter of fact, I plan in trying to buy one just to see how it is (since my brother needs one as he's taking my old M17x R2).
