  1. I make this thread for people who have bricked their bios on their r4(not the vbios), since the release of the A05 I have seen multiple people bricking their bios. The solution to this problem is really easy. Go to Drivers en downloads | Dell [Nederland] and download the .exe file. Use winrar to extract this file, you will have a file named like this QBR00EC.fd, rename it to M17R4.hdr. Now format an USB stick to fat/fat 32, and ONLY put this file on it. We are almost done!!! Unplug the battery from your laptop and be sure the power adapter is not plugged in, and put the USB in the eSate(NOT USB SLOT). Now hold the end button and plug in the adapter, your alienware should come back to live now!!!! It will beep some times and restart few times. Note: Leave CMOS battery in, or it wont work Thanks to SVL7/Brian, clearing things up for me, just go back into bios flashing
  2. Hello, guys! The situation is the following. I am a 3D artist and I work for a Ukrainian company. After the events in our country, most employees moved to safer cities, while the rest have to work remotely. I purchased a non-working Clevo p750dm-g from my hands. The reason for the inoperability is that the owner tried to flash the BIOS with coffee lake support, but something went wrong and he stopped showing the picture (black screen), but the laptop itself starts up, the fans spin, the keyboard lights up, the SSD heats up (too much). I tried flashing the bios using a USB programmer, but that didn't work. I would be very grateful if someone could help revive this car. It is imperative to return to the functional system at work.
  3. A part of my BIOS got corrupted that controls my laptops backlights. Other methods like the Gary Key fix did not work for me because I do not get any light up during post. i followed this guide that says I need to extract and use the 6MB portion of an 8MB bios dump, only AFUWIN tells me "Error, ROM file size does not match existing BIOS size which is because my laptop BIOS size is only 5.87MB. I don't need to flash the whole BIOS, I only need to flash a portion of it. I've searched everywhere online for a dump of my laptop model but non exist that I know of.
  4. Hello, so recently I bought an used laptop, Alienware 17 R2 2015 to be exact. The seller told me that he couldn't install any drivers so I took it in hope that I can change that, and I've come to the conclusion that he tried to change the vbios and somehow bricked it. Does anyone have a backup bios for the GTX 980M (10DE 1617 - 1028 0688) or know where I can find one? I tried to look on techpowerup but can't find it. Any help would be much appreciated! Specs: CPU: i7-4720HQ GPU: GTX 980M RAM: 16GB DDR3-1600MHz SSD: some Intel 180GB ssd m.2 MOBO BIOS: version A20 MOBO: Alienware 17 R2 X04
  5. Hi all, I'm doing a small project to try to resurrect my GT783R (MS-16711) and I'd like some advice. I'd like to replace the video card as I suspect it is where lies the issue. When I went to eBay to look for spare cards, I noticed that a new GTX580M for Alienware costs around 130.00 while a pre-owned one for MSI costs about 250.00. After researching a bit, I found that the vbios from Alienware is not compatible with the one from MSI. So here is my question, is it possible to flash the MSI vbios into an Alienware card? I suspect so but I'd like confirmation from someone with experience. Also, assuming it works, will flashing the vbios be the only procedure needed or do I have to do something else? Peace, Amid
  6. Hello everyone, Sorry to just drop in like this (being new and all), but I really need some help. Usually I try to do with what I can find online, but this time I'm pretty much stuck in mud, unable to move. So my problem is this. I have an Asus UX303UB Zenbook series computer with two GPUs. One being an integrated Intel 520 and the other one is a discrete Nvidia 940m. Im happy with what the computer ofers, but the Nvidia GPU gets so damn hot under load and its capped at 80 degrees which makes for some nasty BSODs and general driver crashes. I tried using using MSI Afterburner to underclock the Nvidia but it doesnt do much. In any case I would like to permanently underclock it to reduce the thermal stress. So far I have tried NVFlash, both the regular one and the one with the certificate bypasses, to get info about the GPU BIOS, save it, and then flash it. This didn't work. I constantly get errors that the GPU is not configured and or not accessible. On some forum I someone wrote that in this case you should delete the GPU drivers and then try. Still didnt work. After that I found some more info suggesting that the vBIOS is probably a part of the main system BIOS and that I need to extract it somehow. Easier said than done. First I tried to use FPT tool to read the system BIOS, which worked without any problems. However, after thinking about it, it didn't make much sense in reading it since the BIOS file is available on the Asus website (latest version: UX303UB-AS.206). In any case I had the file and it's the American Megatrends BIOS, AMI. So to actually extract the vBIOS I needed to use MMTool. I tried with both MMTool 4.5 and 5.0 (honestly, I had no idea which one I was supposed to use, still don't). Here is where it gets weird(er). After opening the BIOS file with MMTool, nothing happes, or should I say, nothing can be found about the vBIOS. In version 4.5 ticking the Link present checkbox produces no links at all so I tried manually reading every entry I had seen in the list (with both the Extract As is and Extract UnCompressed from the Extract FFS options) with a hex editor. Still nothing. Tried version 5.0 which doesnt even give me the Link present option (it's grayed out). Tried the extraction option with version 5.0 (a real pain in the butt, since there are more than twice items on the list it seems) and in some extracted files I found Nvidia entries but nothing seemd like a BIOS description. Still, I tried to open those with the MaxvellBiosTweaker Tool 1.36 (assuming I found the correct information that my card is from the Maxwell lineup) but the files were not recognized. The interesting part is that in both tools not even the Intel GPU is listed (and I assumed it should be). So in the end, I came here looking for help and hope you will be willing and able to do so. I'm 90% sure that this is all my mistake and that I am probably not using the tools as intened or that I am using the wrong versions. In any help, any advice will be appreciated. TLDR - hope to flash vBIOS on UX303UB with Nvidia 940M - tried NVFlash tool, didn't work (with and without removing GPU drivers) - tried NVFlash with certificate bypass, didn't work (with and without removing GPU drivers) - used FPT tool to extract system BIOS and used vendor image as well, worked - used MMTool 4.5 to extract vBIOS, link not listing, didn't work - used MMTool 4.5 to extract vBIOS manually, not showing up, didn't work - used MMTool 5.0 to extract vBIOS, link not listing, didn't work - used MMTool 5.0 to extract vBIOS manually, some entries show up, dont look like vBIOS, didn't work - tried with MaxwellBiosTweaker 1.36 just to make sure, didn't work Thanks in advance. With respect.
  7. I am looking for information on the procedures to replace the integrated BIOS Logo on several laptops. The model numbers are the P650HP6-G, and P650HS6-G. In the past, we have been able to replace the logo on those BIOS's using an Asus BIOS Logo tool, and Secure ROM Signing tool successfully. However, with newer BIOS updates, I have been getting an error message "18-Error: Secure Flash ROM Verify Fail." So I have been staying with older BIOS versions instead of trying to force a bad flash. The P650HS is still using a .BIN for the main BIOS flash file, however, the P650HP6-G has changed from a .ROM to a .8M or .04 file, depending on which method of flash used. One file size is very different from the other (most likely because of a combined ME and BIOS flash code in one file. The trouble is, I am unsure whether these are to be seen as a normal BIN or ROM file, just named differently, or as a completely different type of file. I am using the BIOS flash file that is used only for the BIOS, which should be free from abnormal code arrangement for multiple components. I am in need of an appropriate Logo replacement utility, as well as the digital signature utility for Secure boot. If there is the matter of having a valid key assigned to the company for this purpose, I can present that to my managers for their follow up.
  8. Obviously I'm trying to get over the stupid OC limit on my laptop. I tried flashing the vBIOS for the entire day with no succes. I used NVflash. This guy says I have something called 'optimus'. He also states that there's a different way to actually flash. https://gyazo.com/11a12fe3b609f35fa541b119f03f3c3c4 Any help would be appreciated, and if someone has a trustworthy modded gtx950m bios they want to share with me that'd be great. I have one but I'm not sure it's going to work with this one. 10. I've been trying unsuccessfully to flash the vbios on my Metabox P650RE-G. I've tried flashing with nvflash and keep encountering the message: "Identifying EEPROM... EEPROM ID (C8,4011) : GD GD25Q10 2.7-3.6V 1024Kx1S, page ERROR: ROM image too large for EEPROM" Even though the file I am attempting to flash is only 189KB. I've even tried flashing the stock vbios which is 188KB and that gives the same error. The the only change in the ROM's is that I altered some settings in Maxwell Bios Tweaker. I'm not sure if I'm meant to clear the EEPROM or doing something else. 11. Hi Guys. Introduction post & Support Request all in one. I'm westjgames and I am the (still but only just) proud owner of a Metabox P650SE (Clevo/Sager NP8651). There wasn't a subforum for this particular rebadger, but it is nonetheless exactly the same as the P650SE by Clevo. In any case, it's doing the famous beep-n-flash. Started doing it right as I was doing some Linux installs. Luckily, I have another laptop for the time being, so it's gonna be OK for all my web development projects and school for a while. However, still totally pissed at the situation. Pay $2,500 AUD for a laptop and get this crap... but I digress. Laptop was running Prema Mod right up until the beep'n'flash, when I panicked and installed the stock BIOS back. Prema has already given me some advice, which I have followed (erasing EC and leaving the laptop off the hook for 30 seconds), however, this hasn't worked. A mate from the UK says it's the 12v rail to the GPU, but with the number of these types of incidents appearing with this particular laptop, I'm a bit doubtful. I've also tried the following: Re-seating RAM Using each stick in each slot individually Flashing in the stock BIOS Updating the stock BIOS Removing battery for 30 seconds Removing CMOS battery for 30 seconds (and pretty much wrecking the plug at the same time, that little ****er is glued in I swear. It's all good now though) Prema's x and xx fixes Crying and gnashing teeth Sacrificing a lamb to the laptop gods (not really) Obviously, none of these have worked much. I have a ticket in with Metabox, but they're not in the office for another 2 hours (Perth is a terrible place to have your company). I had a previous conversation going with Prema on his/her website, but I've moved it here to avoid clogging his/her comments, as well as let you lovely people have a crack. I'm willing to try anything that doesn't: Involve destroying the laptop Involve electrocuting myself Gives me dandruff I'm not sure about the state of my warrantee after all this, but that's a conversation for 11am with the Metabox crew. Right now, I'm pretty much open to any new ideas. Bestow your mighty wisdom upon me!
