  1. OK guys some of us over at NBR have created a thread about the 880m and the new drivers and how there crippling the 880m and possibly other video cards.. we are trying to get movement here with Nvidia and get a response out of them.,. Please go reply! I didn't see a general location for this and since it affects more than just Alienware notebooks maybe this could be looked into for a front page article? https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/754922/geforce-mobile-gpus/nvidia-crippling-the-gtx-880ms-with-there-new-drivers-look-for-a-nvidia-response-/
  2. but tbh for awhile there i refrained from posting because some were just way to unfriendly lol
  3. my bad .. i read that completely wrong... haha shouldnt drink and post lol I thought you were saying it was a dick move on my part.. above post edited..
  4. edited by me for being a dick lol..read that completely wrong...sorry! - - - Updated - - - what Alienware system do you have by the way?
  5. mmm as you can read just like i did he is saying his issue is not a low fps... it is a low resolution wich would be some thing different.. hence my response to this thread! also yes they did purposely unoptimise the game... they got busted and some one dropped the fixes..
  6. NO! it is not your laptop!!!!!!! they were caught dumming down the game for pc so it looked even on ps4/xbox and pc!!!! there are ways to enable the better graphics.. here ya go! 7. Hello upgrademonkey! i referred you to one of the best there is and you still charged him.. even tho there was a refund after the review I think you should state that you will require a deposit of what the card is worth because saying paying only u shipping isnt quote accurate wouldn't you say..
  8. what about this.. for just using 2 laptop psus.. 1) measure their voltages (let's say that they're 19.55V and 19.75V 2) Determine the maximum current (let's say they're 3.2A and 2.4A) 3) Place a resistor in series with each one that will drop the voltage to 0.5V less than the lowest measured voltage at the rated maximum current OK so drop voltage to 19.05V R1 = 0.50/3.2 = 0.15 ohms (3W) R2 = 0.7/2.4 = 0.29 ohms (3W) Connect the grounds together, and connect the resistors in series with the +ve output. As long as the voltages remain fairly stable, the power supplies will share the load fairly equally. Note that the resistors need to be at least 3W (maybe go for 5W since you'll need to insulate them) and they'll get fairly warm. Also. the voltage to your laptop will be around 0.5V lower than normal. This probably won't matter much. If the power supplies are running without a load, one power supply can feed into the other in this arrangement. It will *probably* be safe. Placing diodes in series with the outputs will fix this, but at the cost of lower voltage to the laptop and more dissipation. note.. this should keep us from tripping at the max value set at the id chip right ?
  9. all right got my second 330 watt psu in and want to give this a go... i followed some of the links for the parts and there dead.. any one got any input? has this dual psu mod proved viable and valuable? have you been past the limit imposed by the 240 id chip.. or even past the limit of 1 power supply? I see ive seen what 380 watts max out of a single psu right? have you been able to go past that point and get say 400watts out of the dual psu set up?
  10. ok so im going to ask a dumb question... I understand load balancing.. and if this is not doing it then whats the difference between this and just wiring to psu's together? ++/- -/ signal signal wouldn't that work also? or would i now be supplying my lappy with a god awful amount of power? now.. I want to do this with 2 m18x psu's and id like to know exactly what i would need and where to get every thing ill need..
  11. its cool.. me and john figured out a work around.. the blind flash works.. but it makes you think that the system is hanging with all those beeps.. beeps for about a minute,..
  12. So things move kinda slowly around here I see.. not referring to you svl7 just saying I would have thought there would have been some input from some one..
  13. Lol Ive only ever owned ati cards.. and when i got my 18xr2 with 680s it was night and day difference.. more vibrant.. brighter.. smother.. stable.. games run great.. minus a few hicups but still playable..
  14. Hey svl7 i recieved my R2 and tried to flash your bios and i get an error.. http://i.imgur.com/MMLxw.png as you can see it says my current bios is A07.. so im stmped.. I didnt know they had got that high.. I went to Dell and tried to find the R2 bios and its not up any longer.. any ideas on how i could try try to flash this? uac is off and I ran it as admin.. here is a copy of A07 from my m18x-R2 http://www.mediafire.com/?nidh7kmffidri9n
  15. ok this may be a little off topic, but in the terms of bios modding is there a way to see what gpus a given bios will except? and any way to add to that list if you can?
  16. Ive had numerous problems with my system and the lack of support when calling is was appalling.. i had a tech in CA refuse to work on the system stating that no tech in my area would do it.. and when i did finally get one to do a MB swap out he damaged stuff.. it took some doing but i got compensated with 2 7970s for my troubles..
  17. here are my scores for m18x-r1 cf 7970m ill update with screens tomorrow.. Generic VGA video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2960XM Processor,Alienware M18xR1 score: P32167 3DMarks Generic VGA video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2960XM Processor,Alienware M18xR1 score: P10330 3DMarks
  18. svl7 may I ask you what tools you are using to mod these bios? Im trying to change a sub vendor string and all the tools i have and have tried seem to be usless? would you mind linking me to your tools if its not to much trouble?
  19. WELL I had some problems and got no where.. the techs in my area suck.. they damaged my laptop.. i needed a motherboard swap..well i didnt need it but alienware seemed to think so before they would swap out my old 460ms.. but when the tech came out.. the first one told me he would not work on my system and tried to just leave.. so i told him to call his boss.. his boss sent some one else out who tried the same thing.. finaly convieced him the second guy to do the swap real quick.. and he damaged the little ribon that conects the media button to the MB.. the little brown conector that holds the ribbon in place on the mother board side.. he scratched my system broke the bezel around the keyboard.. And a few other things.. well my gpus still were acting up s i called alienware and they said they would swap out my cards with the 6990s from the 460 if i bought 2 years worth of warranty for 1050 bucks.. so i did.. then they didn't want to let me install them my self and the techs refused to come out again and do it..lol.. i spent hours on the phone and finaly convinced them i was able to do the job.. when i got it my system i found the clips broke i mentioned before.. stuff unplugged.. screws missing... so i email a level 3 tech guy that was on another forum and explained my problem... and told him i need to be compensated.. that this was unacceptable.. and i told him id like the 7970s.. he said ok..np and sorry for all the trouble.. it was the first cool thing alienware has done for me and my m18x-r1 since owning the laptop.. I still have those clips broke but i still have warranty and its been noted that the tech messed up.. in hind sight i should of asked for the red body be snt to me or at least the screen lol with the red cover.. And that is how i got my 7970s.. i didn't buy them.. Dell was just plain awesome in taking care of the problem.. but on a side note.. i called in about the drivers to see when they would be released and why the m17x-r4 drivers would work for me and they tried to get me to return these for the 6970s..lol and the phone rep was kinda insistent that i do it..I told him they was no way in hell id go backwards since the cards i just had were 6990s..why he thought it was of to get me to try and take the 6970s? he said that the 6970s were all he could offer me.. I told him that was unacceptable..and that if he wanted these cards back he would have to upgrade my whole system to the same speced system but in the m18x-r2.. and that i was disappointed that he would even consider it was ok to try to get me to send the cards back to him..
  20. ok.. i get main stream graphic intense games to run now.. ..it took some work with the bios but i got it going.. seems the number was off for my card with what was in the inf file.. so its going.. now what is the highest stable clock rates with these vbios's? or are they all semi stable?
  21. no its not that.. let me be more specific.. it will load say.. the secret earth.. but blue screen on mine craft in a small window..
  22. so why would the drivers not be working for me? i hate the mod one because it crashes all the time and the m17x one doesnt seem to load stuff up at all..
  23. bios.rom there,, i tried with ati flash and it didnt work so i used atiwin flash and saved it.. gpuz would work ether...strange..
  24. ok np..ill get a copy up soon give me a few minutes..
  25. ok hello again.. ive been playing with the mod 7900 drivers and the stock dell drivers.. from what i can see and maybe im wrong is that the M18x-r1 vs the m14x-r4 have different VBIOS? ive moved files and folders and infi files around and got the stock dell drivers to install but i bluescreen on every thing.. and it shows up as the mod7900 drivers.. so i ask this if i flash to one of your vbios is there a chance my system wont recognize my cards any more? and since im running a Cross fire set up.. do i flash both cards with the same bios? thanks a ton for all your help..
