  1. Thanks John, but not the case. seems there is a trick to getting it to stop. In my setup, I have the lappy sitting closed on my desk and have wireless keyboard, mouse, and 28 inch 4k monitor on display port so I never use the keyboard on the lappy. Seems the trick is that when the lappy goes to sleep, you need to wake it using the power button on the lappy, then it goes back to a normal/ respect power saving settings for sleep, took a lot of reading to figure it out, it din't make sense, still doesn't make sense, but seems to work.
  2. ok, seems like I am talking to my self, but I have a new issue, not huge, but annoying as heck. Screen saver set to 30 minutes, hibernate never, sleep set to 15 minutes of inactivity... but, after just over 2 minutes, this damn rig is shutting down. pita, looked, read, changed settings, no luck, still running latest insider build, and even updated intel display drivers again yesterday, still no luck. wakes from keyboard input, but who wants that delay every few minutes. only way it won't shut down is if there is a video playing, youtube vid runs without the unit shutting down into sleep mode.
  3. no comments juandante? second stick of ram and go dual channel............
  4. I miss unlocked bios, I had a watercooled rig for years with an MO stepping 2.8 mhz chip, that thing chugged along with ease at 3.57 mhz, even ran it as a seti rig never overheating and stable as heck, memory timings quick, all this new memory today has embarrassing timing levels compared to the slower older ram. I would love to have that rig back up and running with an SSD drive just for the sheer speed of it. Getting to that point tho was hairy, nerve wracking work, the no boot hangs, the no post, crash and burn, hope it survives...... at times struggling to make a bios screen........ o the fun. Juan, why do you think the XTU scores are so different? can you get a hold of an identical stick of ram and go to dual channel see if that helps? might be all it takes?
  5. no idea, thought it might lock it there instead of dropping, never used the bench before, 38 is the max clock multiplier available, hoped it would hold it for all cores during the bench. TS was acting weird, so I removed it and any trace of it, from the computer, seemed it was holding values that I tried and not reverting back.
  6. I am running insider builds for windows 10, latest bios/ drivers for everything. Yup, dual channel, 2 8 gig sticks, nice fast ssd as well which should have nothing to do with this test. laptop case is closed, arctic silver 5 is on there, base of cooler wa hit with 1000 grit paper. room temp about 68 degrees F. and it is almost 2.3 seconds faster.
  7. thanks ono, might do it just for the sake of having the fastest available. just tried TS bench again and hit 12.582. wonder what this chip would be capable of if oc wasn't locked on these rigs.
  8. phew, eyes are crossed from reading, any updates as to the most current/ best wifi card upgrade, or is the one on page one still the best, can't imagine in 6 years nothing better/ faster has been found Intel 7260 HMW is the one I am looking at, or the Broadcom BCM4352
  9. whatever that little section of the chip does is good enough for me, running display cable to hdmi input on a 28 inch samsung 4k monitor, I never open the laptop up unless I take it on the road.
  10. My 3840 QM just did 640, no tuning at all, no cooling mods, it did hit thermal throttle a few times........ http://hwbot.org/xtu/share/946345?clientVersion=6.4.1.25
  11. john, you posted that twice in this thread? ok so you added updates, and you put a 950 dollar hard drive in, good gawd that is a chunk of storage.
  12. just for the hell of it, checked and there was a new bios update, running it now two days and no troubles. found and installed through hp support assistant.
  13. 16 gigs is nice to have on hand. back to running windows insider program, figure its gotta be good for some excitement here and there. anyone else risking it?
  14. I've got a great little 2570 all quad core'd up, 16 gigs, 850 evo 500 gb ssd chuggin along, running an external monitor that does great for me, wondering if the 8470p has much of an advantage over the 2570, can get em cheap enough, refurbees sells them for 189, but if you hover near exit screen they take offers. so hard to find data on the hierarchy of the laptop, as far as age or progression/ performance. here isa link to the 8470p https://refurbees.com/collections/laptop/products/189-405-without-code-bx97-hp-elitebook-8470p-windows-10-home-64-bit-super-fast-core-i5-320gb-hdd-8gb-ram-hd-webcam-dvd-free-shipping-189-delivered-with-code-bx97
  15. I am having zero issues, but I haven't got anything crazy running, just the quad core, a 500 gb ssd, and 16 gigs of ram........ everything else is stock. PCMark 7 Valid result Score 5 542 with Intel HD Graphics 4000 Mobile(1x) and Intel Core i7-3840QM
  16. now running the newest bios for the last week, no issues... 68ISB Ver. F.71
  17. wonder if it'll mine coin............
  18. looks good, how is it working? how much $ involved for setup? board, wires, video card, power supply???
  19. only comment is don't pass hot water from one component to the next, all should be separate loops or the second component in the loop will not get as much benefit. I watercooled for years and overclocked, now just happy with a stable 3.9 ghz lapper
  20. 7260 ac on the way, will see if I notice better results with speeds........ care to elaborate on the capped ddr3 speeds? any settings to adjust to bump em up?
  21. welcome, don't even bother with the dual core in there, drop in a quad core, 4 real cores, 8 threads........... https://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-i7-3840QM-2-8GHz-8M-Cache-up-to-3-80-GHz-SR0UT-PGA988-MAC-PC/142771582798?epid=1122842317&hash=item213dd9774e:g:BbEAAOSwqVJazmS4 easy mod, screw driver and some new arctic silver thermal paste and let it run! evo 850 500 gb ssd, and 16 GB ram too, windows 10 preview builds, latest bios F69 with no issues.
  22. what an easy upgrade, 3840QM running smooth as silk, good grease and not one issue. 16 gb ram, 500 gb ssd, blazing along running windows preview builds. good lord never realized how fast a virus scan could go, this thing breezes through in a miute and 16 seconds, shows all 8 logical processors running damn near 100% 90 watt psu, quieter than the dual core that came out.
