  1. I think I bricked the GPU. I did the overvolt flash and no I get no display on reboot.

    Bro,

I realized what is your problem now, under Windows 7 64 bit after using 13.1 AMD drivers , i run the 3D Mark Vantage and most of the score i get is under 10k. First score i got around 18k (better than Windows 8 Pro), I think this is MORE to drivers related issues. Seriously we need @slv7 to help us out on this matter.

    Thanks.

  2. @nylon - No problem bro, i'm going to do performance test for new release games like Crysis 3 and Aliens Colonel. But at the moment, i am extremely busy with my real life.

    Have fun with your 7970m!

    hi t|i forum!

just ordered a 7970m at mxm upgrade today, after unsuccessfully trying a gtx 675m in my m15x!

i should have earlier found forums like this!

can't wait to see the performance, my 260m definitly has to retire!

thanks @Genetics for those nice vids!

  3. I had a Clevo and a Dell 7970m working in my M15x, I can't remember all the Details, but I got it working with a Dell and with a Clevo vbios, I guess I would need to check some of my benchmark screenshots to figure out some of the versions which I had running. I can't remember a black screen issue... Maybe your guy reseated the card and solved it that way, the MXM connector is pretty sensitive, it can happen that the system boots but shows a black screen, had that a couple of times. Or he had some really weird vbios on the card.

Indeed. I also got black and white screen on my first installation for the card. Just re-seat and reboot few times solved the issue. As the @eastbayrae issue, i am still thinking he got a problem with the software issues.

  4. I tried the 13.2 Beta 3 drivers today and I still can't get above 10k. Something is completely wrong here.

*Edit* I got the vBIOS flashed and still no change.

Completely weird. You don't have overheating issues but had problem with the performance. Wish i could help more..maybe we can wait for @slv7 to help you on this matter.

  5. Ohh @svl7 thank you for the complimentary..i am glad you love it since you are the MASTER for the card :)

Many people requested to see BF3 on 7970M using m15x , i just don't have the copy of it, i would like to see the performance BF3 on 7970m too!

The M15x doesn't care about enduro/non-enduro vbios :P There's no IGP, never was and never will... it's a curious little system which runs pretty much all cards I've put in so far, even though some needed a bit tweaking.

Nice video @Genetics! 7970m is a great card!!

I need some more information, like how did you try to flash (Dos or Win), what commands you used, etc.

  6. I got the driver from amd.com. At the end of the install it says that the driver was installed with errors. When I look at the error log I see the HDMI section says it failed to install. At the bottom of the log it says the package identifier is missing.

Ummm i cannot help you so much on this matter. But i guess it is more to drivers issue related. Wish i could remote to your AW and see how. Are you on Windows 8 or 7 ? if Windows 8, how much your score using the Windows 8 drivers stock?

  7. I get 10k and no HDMI sound. The driver fails to install on any of the drivers I have tried.

Something is wrong somewhere if you get it under 10k. I'm not using HDMI sound at the moment (stick with default Windows 8 sound) but it definitely works under Windows 8. Do you have specified error when installing the drivers? How you install the drivers? Did you get it from amd.com?

  8. So I've been reading through this post as I'm interested in doing the upgrade myself and have a few questions as the answers seem to be all over the place:

    1) Is the eBay Eurocomm Dell OEM kit the best option for an m15x?

    2) Does the HDMI work for sound and video?

    3) What is the best driver?

    Thanks

1 : Not sure about Eurocomm, maybe somebody here can give you a comment about it since i got my card from DELL.

2 : Yes HDMI work found sound and video here.

3 : For now on Windows 8 13.1 by AMD.

  9. I am going to try 13.1 WHQL soon on my Windows 8 64 bit. Will let you update soon.

Score slightly different compare to before. It is all good with 13.1 , i got at least 17k for GPU. How about you@eastbayrae ?

P/S : I think i can get it better by using Windows 7 64-bit . its too late for me to revert back and use Win7 atm :64:

  10. You should get the new 13.1 WHQL drivers. They don't fix the brightness issue, but they're WHQL certified and should run just as good if not better than the 12.11 beta drivers. The new 3D application settings is nice (kind of a cheap knockoff of nvidia control panel's but I like it).

I really hope someone can find a fix for this issue. I've already tried everything I can think of. Weird how stock microosft and older (up to 12.8) drivers work fine.

Agreed. Stock drivers by Windows 8 have no problem with the brightness, i can use the keyboard to control the brightness. Hopefully somebody can fix this soon. Thank you for the update! :Banane41:

  11. I know this is also affecting people with the M17x-R2 with Windows 8.

Basically when I press the button combination to change brightness, the OSD displays the brightness going up and down, but the actual screen brightness doesn't change.

Now running the stock windows 8 video drivers and even the 12.8 WHQL drivers worked fine with brightness. The 12.10 WHQL, 12.11 Beta (up to 11) and even the new 13.1 WHQL drivers don't fix this issue.

I tried messaging an AMD rep at the overclock forum and even sent a few bug reports for the drivers about this before, but it seems like they're not interested.

There were a few amount of people who fixed this problem doing registry mods, but they were on a different computer and it didn't work for me.

Same goes to me. Using BETA 11 at the moment. Keep it updated bro!

  12. I don't bought it from ebay, i just got it from Dell. I tried with 1.5mm and it's really bad idea. Because of the 1.55mm thermal pads, the gpu die don't properly contact with the heatsink. So i tried with 0.55mm its all good.

P/S : You also can use 5850M thermal pad (If it's default stock by DELL), but the layout of the thermal is different, beware about it. Direct metal to your card can *KABOOMMM* your card!

Maybe @svl7 or anyone experts here can verify Index of /support/drivers/zip/Alienware (for the drivers) is good or not.

    Cheers :)

  13. Thanks for replying. But from what I have read, you're using a cooper shim. I would rather not use a cooper shim to have the lowest temperatures. So it means grinding down?

    1. I used copper-shim before because i stuck with overheating issue before, so i tried with it.

    2. Right now i am not using it, just plug & play the default bracket from 7970M , no grinding down too.

    3. My fault before is, the thermal pad (Previously i bought 1.5mm). I'm using 0.5mm thermal pad for now and it is great!

    4. Me as the newbies, only 1 thing you need to concern about the X bracket and screws. Make sure the copper and gpu die contact properly with no gap at all. Using good thermal paste will help you (I am using Artic Silver 5).

    5. You also can use HWiNFO64 to control the fans :)

    Thanks bro.
