@svl7 I second you on they cannot find out the damage due to oc hehe. Its an honor if i get that cpu from you lol. I'm still waiting the final price from the seller. The only diff are they sell the new item and its OEM. Just let me know what Conker output later if he want to sell it. I also can PM him if further discussion needed. Thanks mate

Ohh i just understand the warranty for 30 days will be gone if they found the damage due to OC. You are evil @svl7 by telling me that cpu is $210 haha! Not sure whether that price include shipping or not

@svl7 Need your help again before i get this cpu. The seller just told me "You cannot overclock this". Does this something to do on "locked" and "unlock" version? The OEM SLBLW cannot be oc even by using the multiplier? Thanks.

I only used ES 920xm so far, and they all overclocked really well. Some are a bit better than others, but that's the same story with the OEMs. Of course there might be earlier ES steppings than the one I used (can't remember what mine was called, possibly Q3B8) which could perform worse... all I know is that the stepping I had performed well, not only for me but also for others.
Thanks mate for the info! I can get 920XM SLBLW around $240 brand new. That amount of money is 'big' to spend on my ancient m15x
-
I do have noob question here. Is there any difference between i7-920XM ES and i7-920XM SLBLW (Or also called OEM version?)
Based on my study SLBLW is expensive compare to ES version. Does SLBLW compatible with my current m15x? (Imho there is NO problem) Maybe @svl7 or @Khenglish can give quick and firm answer about this?
Thanks in advance

Can confirmed here 14.4 WHQL is really great on Battlefield 4! Using Mantle and set all to Ultra..it works like charm! Thanks AMD!
Definitely better than 13.12 before.
-
Downloaded it yesterday but I didn't have the time to install it. I am curious about Mantle performance improvements...
Wonder the same thing too mate! First release of Mantle by AMD really sucks on Battlefield 4!

Is there a thread here on T I called M15x throttle fix? Only svl7 has managed to not get throttling on M15x without the removing the centre pin to my knowledge.
We are of course talking about if you want to overclock a 920/940XM processor and overclock the GPU. If you intend to run your 720QM you should not run in to any throttling.
I am not worry about the CPU throttling bro, but needs more power for 7970M.
By the way i am going to get Kill-A-Watt soon and see how 150W and 240W PSU works on my m15x. (Run 3D Mark using 150W and 240W PSU , i got slightly high score using 240W for GPU and lower score for CPU)
-
@svl7 Just read in Shoutbox Archive you mentioned that I don't have to yank the center pin for Delta PSU 240w in order to gain more power from it. Any alternative for this?
Thanks mate

Did you try the luck by power drain your laptop first? Or start your windows in Safe Mode.
-
Or try with safe mode first in Windows

Do you still have the original 150W adapter? These must be cheaper and you could buy one just for charging the battery. I believe also the lower power 80W PSU from the inspiron or whatever has the same fitting and might charge the battery but no one has tested that. I know svl7 has managed to get some very impressive benchmark scores with a 7970m without removing the centre pin but I have no idea how he managed them. For us lowly humans removing the centre pin is the only option.
1. Yes i have both 150w and 240w (Both are Delta). Right now i am just using 150w for charging / gaming / etc. I still don't dare to remove the centre pin for 240w because it's very hard to get it here and also expensive.
2. And to be honest i am very confused (or noob) about the 'throttling' issues (Even keep reading every single pages on other forum). E.g : Using 7970M with BF4 (Multiplayer) with all set to HIGH settings, my fps seem stable around 35-45, temp max 76c with 850/1200Mhz using 150w PSU.
3. Here i post the result from my 3D Mark Vantage.

@migualo Afaik they (DELL) don't sell just the rubber. You have to buy the whole palm rest (It sucks yes i know). Alternatively you can buy that small pieces rubber, the one we use for chairs etc etc to take care the surface from scratch. Cut it nicely!
PS: I use sticker for whole palm rest to avoid this damn rubber from defect!

Pull the centre pin out of your PSU and say goodbye to throttling. It will no longer charge the battery however so it is advisable to get a new 210w or 240w PSU to use for gaming and keep 150w for travelling And charging battery.

@fatboyslimerr I do have 240w (Delta PSU)...Is there any alternative other than yank the centre pink? 240w is quite expensive here and yanking the centre pink make me feel miserable :S

That worked!!!! I owe a pint to the guy who came up with that. Thanks!
Indeed. Not sure why AMD seem less concern about this matter. I have submitted few bugs report regarding this. Even the latest beta also failed on brightness and need to tweak it manually via regedit. Glad you solved the issue
-
Don't CD drives still have a little pin hole to manually eject?
Afaik nope. Its embedded inside the case like mbp.

Does anybody experienced problems with adjusting the brightness on win 8 + 6970m? Mine will always stay at max brightness
Refer to this thread
Thanks.

@SpaceHippy1975 Enter BIOS, hold your laptop vertically (Make sure the CD driver on the side down) and push eject button.
Good luck.

@Genetics ambient temperature is 73c and idle temp with fans running and a repaste as-5 and mx-4 60c and 62c
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Did you apply the thermal paste properly on the cpu? The temp for 740qm always changing due to Turbo Boost.
-
Also is having 60c normal for a 740qm at idle?
That is quite high for idle temp. You can do the re-paste job on CPU. Both of my CPU 720QM and 740QM idle at temp around 45-50c (with Turbo Boost) on normal temp room without support from the laptop cooling fans.
-
Yea, pull out the center pin so it doesn't get limited to 180W. It won't charge your battery anymore though.
Or maybe you can try to put the charger in 'half-way' to the jack first and see how.

Win8 can handle almost the drivers. You can manually download from the manufacturer's website if your drivers are missing. Win8 should be ok but i still prefer Win7 if you into gaming.
I'm thinking to upgrade my m15x to win8 as well. How did you guys install all the drivers (graphic, wifi, bluetooth, etc.), and command center, fx software.I gonna format everything and install the os so I need more info about the drivers whether it works or not.
I couldnt find any thing on google.
could you help me plz
thanks

It is good if you can re-check your gpu again. Most probably the problem is with your gpu.
