  1. I'm running a similar set-up as you (iBuyPower Valkyrie CZ-17 base) with the 1.025V unlocked vBIOS. I also have difficulty maintaining stability in situations where both the CPU and GPU are stressed to their max. I haven't played Planetside 2, but late-game Civ 5 and Total War often bring my CPU to 100%. The only thing I've found to help is throttling back on voltage. Some monitors have detected voltage spikes when the mobo tries to manage at that level. I also suspect I may have damaged a GSKILL RAM a few months ago in the process. You may want to run some hardware tests occasionally to see if any other peripheral hardware issues are cropping up. Good luck.
  2. I also have a MSI GT70 (but a barebones CZ-17 from iBuyPower). I'm also curious about 00boong's question #1. Aside from the MXM slot, these configs don't have any real ports capable of handling bandwidth for eGPUs, so it seems that any solution will involve significant internal hardware changes. However, if you are interested in going the internal MXM route, there are a few threads with people's experiences. Here's one on the GT70-ONC (but 880m) https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/10378-msi-gt70-onc-gtx-675m-replaced-with-gtx-880m/
  3. Still works great! Thanks for the hint. Some things I miss about SpeedFan though. Is there any reason to use this software over some generic one? My sense is that this responds faster to sensors and acts more dynamically while in-game, but that's all anecdotal based on my rough exterior observation of the fan/heat output.
  4. I know this thread is likely moribund by now, but I've noticed that the original French fan control software by Pherein has been updated a few more times in the intervening years. At this point, is there a benefit to using this software as opposed to a generic fan control software such as SpeedFan?
  5. Thank you for the reassurance. I'll do some monitoring of the temperature at Full Load and see how it does against your 85° benchmark before I flash any vBIOS and startinf OC'ing. I had the GT70 Barebone for a while in Southeast Asia and I suspect that the heat/humidity did murder on the thermal paste. If that's the case, I might see about overhauling that before I start OC'ing. Assuming that everything is fine, how much of a boost could I get away with? The big discussion thread here about the GTX 680Ms is rather long and does come to a definitive conclusion. And this is confused more by the fact that multiple vBIOS with different voltages (1000, 1025, 1050) are offered. I suppose I could just experiment like everyone else by incrementally ramping up until I start seeing the heat crawl above 85 or 90, but I'm wondering if some folks have already optimized the combinations. Any advice there?
  6. @Turboshield : I know your post and the follow-up from Slacker is well over two years ago. I'm real late to the OC'ing game, but hey... my Valkyrie CZ-17 is still going strong so why not? Can you tell me what your experience was with overclocking? How far did you safely overclock with the CZ-17's heatsink? Cheers
  7. I'm working off an iBuyPower CZ-17 Valkyrie (circa 2012), which also came with a GTX 680M (4GB). From what I understand, it's basically a MSI GT70 and so in theory most of the relevant tweaks, vBIOS, etc. should work as advertised. My rig: vBIOS at the moment - GPU GK104, revision A2. Windows 10 Pro i7-3630QM / 2.4 GHz And yet, I've noticed that while a few people have posted asking for help with their CZ-17's (and sometimes are pointed here), I haven't found a successful follow-up story. Is there anything I should check to ensure compatibility before I go down this rabbit hole? Is no news good news? Any CZ-17'ers out there who can chime in? Any of the following vBIOS work out best? MSI 680m -'OCedition'_revised_02 - OV 1000v.zip MSI 680m -'OCedition'_revised_02 - OV 1025v.zip MSI 680m -'OCedition'_revised_02 - OV 1050v.zip MSI 680m -'OCedition'_revised_02.zip Cheers
