I previously had the 680M and was able to successfully overclock the vbios to whatever I wanted. With BIOS tweaker 2 and the 980m, the GPU throttles any time I overclock and flash the VBIOS. The software overclocking works fine, I just have always preferred a VBIOS overclock. I must not be doing something right. I would be willing to pay somebody a reasonable amount of money that could bake in overclock to my VBIOS!!!

Does anybody on here know of a matte ips screen that would be compatible with my Alienware 17 R1??? The IPS displays on the R2 have a different connector. I love my laptop, have a 980m, 3 1TB Samsung 850 EVO SSD's in RAID 0, 16 GB DDR3 RAM, I7 4710MQ!!! The only thing I dislike about it are the poor viewing angles with the matte 1920x1080P TN screen it has. Can't go with glossy because I can't control the lighting when I'm at work, the reflections are very annoying!!! I would GREATLY appreciate if anybody knew of a compatible matte ips display that would work on my Alienware!

So how come nobody has made a 980m vbios with "baked in" overclocks??? Is it not possible to do??? The 980m is capable of so much more than the unlocked rev 0 bios! If we were able to overclock the vbios we wouldn't have to worry about stupid NVIDIA disabling overclocking!!!

Disabled optimus on AW17 r1 - now it won't boot?

I had the exact same problem with my Alienware 17 r1 with 980m and modified driver/vbios. Graphics switching only works with Windows 8 or 8.1 in uefi mode. To get it to boot I had to remove the 980m and start it like that. Then reinstalled Win 8.1 uefi. -
Prema is the fucking man!

Has anybody figured out why the 980m overclock vbios won't work with Maxwell 2 Bios tweaker? I've seen a few people ask the question without any kind of answer.
-
That's what I tried. Version 1.36! - - - Updated - - - - - - Updated - - - It would be nice if prema or svl7 would make an unlocked vbios for me with a 1202 core clock and a 2805 memory clock! Please please please!
-
It opens my factory rom and allows me to adjust the clock speeds, but when I flash it windows disables the 980m saying it detected a problem.
-
Maxwell II Bios tweaker is what I used. It won't open the unlocked 980m vbios rom file.
-
How did you modify the clocks on your vbios? I tried Maxwell Bios Editor 1.36 and it won't open the unlocked vbios!
-
That would be pretty awesome! Never been a fan of software overclocking. If they did that we could have the latest drivers and have significant overclock!

Thanks for the work on the vbios svl7. My Alienware 17 980m with stock clocks is hitting 8700 on Firestrike up from 7900 before flashing the vbios!!!

Please disregard my last post. I figured it out. Does anybody know of a maxwell bios tweaker version that will allow me to edit the 980m vbios? I tried version 1.36 and it doesn't work with this vbios. Thanks for any help!

Can anybody please help me!? Whenever I try to flash with mnvflash it is telling me I/O Error: Cannot open file: 980MOC.rom. I backed up my current vbios and was able to flash it, did this just to see if it worked. Whenever I try to flash the overclock vbios I get the I/O error message every time.
