1.
Hello everyone, Im having a bit of a problem. TL;DR - Pressed fn+f5 to switch Optimus settings and now windows 8 crashes right after boot-up. ___________________ Im going home to visit some family this weekend and decided to bring my AW17 r1 along for some movie watching in the train. I boot it up in the train, turn off the lights and press fn+f5 to reboot without the dGPU to extend the battery life. And this is where it gets problematic. It will boot into Windows fine, but after a couple of seconds it gets to a start up-process which apparently after the Optimus-switch makes the PC crash.. Mouse and keyboard input stops working although it does kinda look like it's doing something and hasn't crashed completely, but I can't access it. The biggest problem is that the freezing occurs before I get a chance to press fn+f5 again, and I'm now stuck in a loop where I can't boot up. I might add that I'm running it pretty heavily overclocked with modified driver and vbios. I can get it to boot up in safe mode just fine and I have tried fiddling with power settings since I figured that might be the problem, it still doesn't work when I tried to boot up normally, and since the fn+ shortcuts aren't available in safe mode it doesn't really help me much, and I can't find anywhere in the OS(or BIOS) where I can turn off Optimus. I hope anyone is able to help or this is gonna be a loooong train ride.

2. I can't really think of why this would benefit Samsung a whole lot. I don't like their handsets myself but they seem to be doing rather well, what does Blackbarry have that Samsung doesnt?
3. While everything said is pretty much on point, i feel that what we need to do as customers and community is to ignore these bad ports and just continue buying PC's and PC games. Eventually they will figure out that this is where they should spend their money, especially with these console-type PC's comming out. Next big step is gonna be easy-upgradeable console-form-factor pc's, and at that point noone is gonna buy a console with the insane pricing they have for games.
4. I'm not really sure actually. I only start tweaking with that setting if im seeing weird tearing. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it makes it alot worse. I haven't figured out the logic behind it.
5. Just out of curiosity, why did you have to tear it down completely because of a bad overclock?
6. I've had 2x GTX 880m in two different Alienware 17's, one was always at 90+ under load, the other one barely reaches 70. Maybe you've got a bad one?
7. I was really looking forward to this.. 14-and-someting months later im not really that hyped anymore. Im thinking I can probably wait for a great sale on this, and if its anything short of perfect I'm not gonna buy it. Shame on you Rockstar for screwing over your long-time fans. We've been playing GTA on PC's since before it ever launched on consoles.
8. Anyone else experiencing this? Im not sure if its due to the absurdly loud speakers on the Alienware 17, or if it's something to do with Windows 8, but if i turn my volume down to 0 it doesnt turn off the sound completely. Mute works, though.
9. Got myself a Hyper X Cloud headset for like 50% off, been very happy with it so far.
10. I've been using Arctic Silver 5 for many years now and so far have no complains with it. It seems to perform better than whatever i was replacing it with, although i've been wanting to try out some Liquid Ultra. Heard crazy stuff about that.
11. I recently decided i wanted a new laptop, ended up with a Clevo p150 something (if i remember).. It was the budget solution with a 870m in it and i liked most of it, but one thing killed it for me.. The keyboard ghosting was terrible and i had to return it. Ended up going for an Alienware 17 instead (and got the big brother GPU as well). It's a completely different machine, quality wise this seems to outperform the Clevo by a long shot. It's by far the best laptop i have owned or let alone used. I'm loving it!
12. I have been enjoying Evolve alot. One of the most stressful thing i've ever tried in a video game is being a monster for the first time vs. 4 players, great adrenline rush and also very, very good looking. Running everything on max with a single 880m at over 60fps so it seems pretty well optimized as well. Deffinitely gonna pick it up when it launches, alongside dying light and GTA V like the guy above me.
