  1. so, i assume it's brand new? does it run the fans constantly in idle? if so - that is pretty much. from my experience 37xsm-a tries to keep GPU at 40C in idle by default. what BIos/EC version you are on, which operating system and version of hotkeys?
  2. only in specific webpages that i have mentioned. i have not seen anything in the WIN8 install like that, no. not in the bios either. at 99% of the time all is good, only some combination of things brings this issue out...
  3. same with GPU fans, you have to seal all "windows" on the air way. but what clocks do you run anyway? and what CPU and GPU voltage? are you on stock vBios? what are your idle temps?
  4. my friend has 85C on both 880m in his Alienware 18 in bf4. not sure about CPU though. i am not sure about you machine exactly, but in mine the cooler on the CPU sucks the air straight from the processor and blows it into radiator which has "hole" on the way, meaning the hot air is sucked from processor and is sent back inside the machine. i have fixed it by closing the opening on the fan from the side of the processor and sealed the "holes" on the way to the radiator. that helped me to get about 4-5 degrees less. be sure to use some non melting thing for doing that though!
  5. i have 370sm-a with same CPU as your alienware and 980m sli here, which game makes it run that hot? that is no way normal. maybe you have too much OC on the CPU? when you force the fans to max, does it make it considerably cooler?
  6. here are some videos of what is going on, it's not easy to see on the first video, but better in full screen on the 2nd one: Preama, maybe you can ask your partners to check this please? maybe it is a general issue?
  7. Hey Prema! thanks for your help! but i have tried disabling SLi, and it's all the same! even with windows default driver. i have also tried all you Bios mods/updates/downgrades with no luck. flashing the cards did not help either. so far i had no chance to use you mods commercially, because non of them work for me if i ever will - you will be the first to know! as i have mentioned earlier, going higher in Hz removes the flicker, even boosting this 60hz to 75-78 almost eliminates the issue, while going lower in Hz it becomes worse. tried win7, win8 with no luck either. also i have tried all possible drivers for Maxwell 9xx series. btw, the flicker is not in the games or benchmarks, it flickers while looking jpg files and browsing on-line. also in the pixel walk test. maybe i should better use word blinking? and only specific colors+line patters involved can somebody with similar machine please look if they have same issue with the web-pages i have provided? i want to continue the dispute with Xnotebooks, but i need strong arguments, otherwise they try to convince me that this is normal and there is something wrong with me (how rude...) so even if i send them notebook for RMA, there is great chance it will come back having same issue, but i always have to pay shipping costs to them all the time i send it and it takes time too
  8. I am running a small business for servicing and upgrading notebooks, as well as selling used and new components in Russia, st. Petersburg and i do some business in Finland too. usually i specialize on alienware products, but since the 980m was not PnP from the start, i have looked into Clevo notebooks to offer for my clients. screen quality is among main features that i am looking in the notebooks i offer for sale. after some research i quickly found the Xnotebooks.com has the best selections of different screens, so i have ordered a 375sm-a with 980m sli for my client with 120hz lg screen. when the notebook has arrived and i began to test it, i have stumbled on an issue with some colors flickering at 60hz, though switching to 120hz eliminated the problem 100%. the supplier said that the problem is on my side most likely, but as this was a 120hz screen i didn't care much as long is it worked fine above 100hz. the client was very happy with, so no harm done. a few weeks later i have ordered a 370sm-a 980 sli from same company, but this time i have decided to go with 60hz also from LG, minding the issue with 120hz screen and it was also advertised to have more contrast that 120hz one. after receiving the notebook, i went testing again and as always i went to the download page of my fav Valley bench. guess what? at the same page, on the same color the flickering appeared again! but this time i can't switch to 120hz to solve it. i have went back to my supplier only to hear angry things from them that i am 100% doing something wrong, because this is the 2nd laptop with me having same issue, while they have sold dozens of them and no one have complained. we have been going back and forth for hours over the phone and i have heard same arguments all over again and again after which the representative of the company quite rudely just hanged up the phone and did not answer my calls for next few hours. off course my client is long gone now because of this problem, and i am stuck with this machine with expensive CPU i have no use for anyway, enough of the sad story... does any one experience same issues on a similar machine that has been bought recently? or am i that unlucky this time to hit the same spot twice from different angles? the flicker appear on this page in the left upper corner on the gray color in 60 hz mode, more flicker in 50hz: https://unigine.com/products/valley/ also this test shows flicker: Inversion (pixel-walk) - Lagom LCD test
  9. tonrac, you have to disable both GPU drivers before you flash, to prevent running into possible troubles, remember that you are only disabling drivers in the Device manager, not the GPU itself. go ahead and don't worry - you will not loose your display!
  10. does it work in AW17 r4 with 344.80 drivers? i mean... does it remove the terrible throttling on 980m? i need to know before i try, because mine is 3d version, meaning i will have to flash it elsewhere...
  11. wait... so it makes a difference which string to replace? :0
  12. my fellow was able to run 3d with 970m on external 3dtv and it works, but says its a "prototype test" all over the screen
  13. i am saying 970m sli vs 980m sli. in the end the performance increase with 980m sli over 970m sli, may just be around 8% and so far it looks like 970m is not throttling so much!
  14. i assume the bottleneck in real life applications like games will be the memory bandwidth like in most cases with nvidia mobile cards. in case of 980m i was able to get only to around +350mhz on memory, but 970m i have seen handles +700mhz. 256 vs 192 bit bus is a 25% difference, but 970m clocks 15% higher on memory, so in the end, when both unlocked, the real difference will be just around 7%-8% of performance. one can just downclock monitor by a few hz to have same fluent fps:hz ratio if needed.
  15. i think i might go for 970m sli, whats the point in 980m sli then?
  16. OC'd? but you have sli, he has single and yours is only [h=1]P22519[/h]
  17. my friend has been able to overclock his 970m in AW17 r4 to reach 980m stock performance, with only +135mhz on the core and +600 on memory. for almost a half of the price. what's the use of 980m with such throttling then? his Mark 11 score is 10220
  18. i am in finland/russia - right on the boarder, not in states. but still quite far. 375sm-a edit: sorry, 370sm-a, swapped my 375sm-a, because of the extra lighting that i did not like, but that's for another thread, i have been warned before!
  19. thats the thing, mine has 120hz screen. does the marketplace on this site work? i might consider selling this one, really want AW18 or m18x with dual 980m now and to say goodbye to my Clevo aswell.
  20. it seems that v10 bios has no memory downclocking problem, but still fluctates a lot without k-boost on. unfortunately i cant flash under win8 Uefi and dont want to tear my Clevo appart. really hoping svl7 will make a vbios mod someday, on the other hand: how will i flash it? oh, well - i will find a way. Alienware feels much nicer than my Clevo and runs quiter, and 18" version is a dream with 980m sli
  21. can only offer you single 980m vs single 980m battle, no sli, sorry.
