  1. Can you please run Unigine Valley, windowed, near 1080p?

    MSAA not required, but let it heat up first with 3-5 rounds, then reset hwinfo, and then run 3 more.

    This way we can have a reading of average and usage based fluctuation of temps.

    ( At default speed, you can go lower with voltage, mine is ok @0.95V. @1V 1124mhz looks stable. Flashed into ultrabay, and merged into main bios, so no nvinspector needed ;) )

As far as that spacer thing goes, I really need time to re-read that over and over because I didn't really understand the whole mod, I'll need a video or something...I'll read it after I get done with this bench.

    EDIT: @ghoul , I'm done...Man Heaven Benchmark gets boring to watch after the second run. Anyways, I'm on stock clocks(1058/2500) and undervolted -100mV and these are my results. I ran no MSAA, 1920x1080, and the Extreme preset..I forgot to turn on tessellation, but GPU usage is GPU usage.

    After 5 runs:

    Can't leave out the fact that my laptop is still sitting on top of my CM NotePal X3. I haven't tested temperatures with this test without the cooler, but overall, I'm still impressed with this script, and can't wait for it to be improved if it ever does.

  2. Yeah, that's why I'm trying to figure out a way to keep the fans at a constant speed. Even though it would be loud, it's nothing that noise-canceling headphones can't drown out. Hearing the fans turn on and off nonstop is much more annoying, not to mention it hurts cooling performance.

    Nice temps BTW. I get about the same on GPU and higher on CPU (due to i7) in every game except PlanetSide 2 because it's a power virus. At constant 99% usage, it easily heats up my GPU 10-15C more than anything else I throw at it, which is especially problematic on the Ultrabay card since it's already hotter to begin with. Depending on ambient temperatures, I see close to 90C on it while playing PS2, and it being 100F every day here in the CA Bay Area isn't helping either.

    Otherwise, I've already done a few other things to manage thermals, including using a cooling pad, repasting with IC Diamond and OCZ Freeze, removing the cloth mesh that's glued to the dust filter, and dremeling the bottom cover to increase the size of the intakes. Once I get fan speeds figured out, I should be golden. :D

    Regarding the fact that this script doubles the speed in the dust removal script, do you think it'd be just as easy to SUPER slow it down and have the 100% fan speed last for hours and then stop for hours(Which wouldn't be a problem, just restart the script yourself and have it run the fan for hours again)? More advanced to even just have it boost the speed of the UltraBay GPU...unless those two(which I hope to God they aren't) are linked to the exact same fan controller and operate symetrically, because honestly, the CPU and GPU0 temperatures are fine to me, even without the script as well as overclocked, it's just the Ultrabay temperatures that need serious work.

    I wouldn't use this mainly because I've always found these scripts to be too sound jarring around other people, to hear it go off and on, but to anyone that is thinking about trying this and you must absolutely have lower temps, definitely use allstone's script. This along with undervolting both GPUs at stock clocks and a laptop cooler(I use the NotePal X3), yields very epic results. Battlefield 4's Firing Range is a great way to test temperatures after you put it on some very nice settings, these settings even give my desktop's GTX 770 hell. These settings puts both GPUs to 99% stress the entire time, AS LONG AS you stand still right after you deploy onto the firing range. 15S70URs7wq6x3PwMtNci7CveB6Iac1_thumb.png

    And that's with 99% GPU usage, actually playing games will make your usage fluctuate anywhere from 60-99, so expect even LOWER temps. Highly recommend this tool. You guys should definitely thank @allstone for making this.

  4. Does this simply run Dust Removal in an endless loop like the script does? Or does it remove the 2 second gaps between when the fans spin, i.e. constant max fan speed?

    Also, please do let us know if you ever find the BIOS settings that allow HWiNFO64 to access the EC for manual fan control.

    I'm running it right now, it runs the fans for about 2 seconds, and then stops for half a second and repeats.

    EDIT: It seems like its running at about double time? Normally it would run for about 7 seconds and then stop for 2? This seems about half that.

    139 GPU0 temperature Max? Is that even possible? You had 94*C CPU temp while taking this screenshot and max was 100? Dude, I think you need to clean out your laptop, or maybe it send it back because it has some serious cooling issues. My GPU and my CPU didn't even get that high while I was benchmarking on CARPET. Take a can of air and try blowing out any dust that could be hogging up the fans, because those are some extremely insane temperatures, I think anyone here can agree.

  6. Great but for ultrabay gpu , I think you use too much paste and you also over clock your gpu and raise the voltage so it will easily overheat. My y510p ultrabay GPU(Gt750m) repasted with mx-4 and run at stock clock speed&voltage(around 1.056V) still overheat but temp max at 95-96°C after 35-40 minutes heaven benchmark. So now I flash modded bios/vbios and undervolt it and run stable at around 0.962V at stock clock speed now my ultrabay GPU max at just 80°C when playing BF3 at high with vsync off for hours.

    (I haven't done any other mod on my Y510p. I only repasted ultrabay gpu and undervolted and also no cooling pad just use foam from notebook package to raised laptop up from flat surface.)

    Wow, this was actually pretty helpful. Standing still right after you press DEPLOY in the Battlefield 4 firing range puts more stress on the GPUs than I thought they would. Playing on settings I know I'd never try playing on in an actual game(Ultra w/ 4xMSAA, 90 FOV, Weapon DOF, and 130% Resolution scale, 30FPS) at 1920x1080, puts both GPUs at 97-99% usage. Undervolting at stock clocks by 112.5mV to make it .987 V and sitting there while I fell asleep. I woke up 2 hours later and GPU 1 never got past 64*C and GPU 2 never got past 72*C. This was of course sitting on top of my NotePal X3. Thanks for the tip!

  7. BD PROCHOT doesn't do squat on this laptop. The CPU throttle at >65C GPU is set in the EC and can be overridden using ThrottleStop.

    Funny thing is, that's a complete lie. With Throttlestop 7.00b2, checking the set multiplier box and setting it to the highest ## T as well as unchecking BD PROCHOT disables that stupid throttling. Look at my latest thread and in some of the screenshots you can clearly see the first GPU past 65*C with the i5-4200M still at 3.1GHz.

  8. Hey guys, so I've done some tips I've found for y510p as far as cooling goes to help try to cool the hellraising UltraBay GPU temps. I have the i5-4200M/750M SLI model and I made a little album describing in detail how the experience was. I hope it will answer some questions as far as how helpful repasting the Ultrabay GPU goes, as well as how much a laptop cooler(In this particular case, the Cooler Master NotePal X3) can help.

    I used Heaven Benchmark 4.0 at Ultra Quality, Extreme Tessellation, and 8x MSAA @ 1920x1080 to stress the GPUs.

    Normal settings for my laptop consist of both 750Ms running stable at:

    1228MHz/2700MHz

    97*C Prioritized temperature

    1.150V(I honestly don't know what voltage does so I don't bother with it too much)

    As well as Throttlestop 7.00b2 to keep my i5-4200M at 3.0-3.1GHz no matter what to get rid of Lenovo's stupid 2.45GHz throttle when GPU0 hits 65*C.

    I'm willing to take any and all benchmark requests, and some cooling tips..as long as it isn't too crazy, I'm a 19 year old soon to be college student with no job, I can't afford a new laptop. xP

    I asking your helps I got a y500 with 1.1.0 bios version. I flash it a years ago now without any problem. But now I am just checking the options on the bios try to enabled the internal gpu, I reamove the ultrabay and playing with the settings in the internal graphics option. And now when I hit the power button the laptop starting then after 3 second shut down then repeat. I cant find any way to reset the bios to the default settings thats why I asking to your helps guys.

    So here's the thing. I flashed your modded bios 3.5 for y510p, and it was working. But only for one gpu, and i was reading that SLI users have to flash ultrabay gpu too. So i did it. Without any error. Then i went to bios to check these new options and i undervolted cpu (-65). Then i saved changes, and i exit bios. After reboot, screen was black (like no light at all), my mouse and pendrive didnt light, only keyboard and power button was lighting. And i felt warm air from fans, after some time it was more warm.

    I hope i explained it well, and i am truly asking you for some help. I would really appreciate it.

    I sometimes get this too after this mod. Simply just turning it off and on fixes it for me. I've gotten it maybe 3 times since I flashed these about a week ago. I just consider it a minor annoyance since just holding the power button to turn it off and then turning it back on works for me.

    @svl7 Did an hour of gaming with 1V for both ultrabay and main GPUs. No crashing happened within that hour. Take note though that I left the clock values at their defaults (1098 mhz) as overclocking the main GPU crashes the driver immediately. At 1V, temps were: 91 deg max (main) and 87 deg max (ultrabay)

  11. 3dmark free edition would be sufficient as stability test.

    3DMark as a stability test....I'd give it a /MAYBE/, it's a benchmark, more catered towards people that want to see their graphics performance in comparison to other people. The thing I like about Heaven 4.0 is that it's a loop, it never ends, but it doesn't keep both GPUs at a full 99% the entire time, its more 90-99.

    I'm hoping that with some type of driver update I can beat my score http://www.3dmark.com/sd/2259619 and hit 11K...

    Does anyone know how to work the Processor Overclocking options in the modified 3.05 BIOS or is that not possible?

  12. slv7, I think ultrabay vbios is working for both of GPU in SLI mode.. I think of this because when I was changing vbios separately, when in SLI ultrabay VBIOS took presedence and allowed me to use modifications which I have done on ultrabay. Now I am wondering if that is really the case or I just missed something.. I am probably wrong?

    What is your preferred method of putting a stable strain on GPU to test how its working ?

    I tried both FurMark and MSI Kombustor for a couple minutes before I found yesterday that FurMark is blacklisted by both AMD and NVIDIA for damaging GPUs, and Kombustor doesn't support SLI =/

    So I was just going to go with the usual, Heaven Benchmark 4.0 with Ultra Quality, Extreme Tessellation, 8x MSAA. It gets the GPU usages up pretty high most of the time, and it loops itself. If anyone has any better looping benchmarks that stress the GPUs out for me to try, I'd be thankful. I'll have the results thread up within 4-5 hours from me posting this.

  13. Hello guys I'm new here, I'm having problems with this laptop GPU's, I see this thread but I'm not sure if this can help with my problem, so if you guys can suggest me some settings I'll really apreciated.

    The problem is, my laptop is the Y510p with 750m SLI GPU's, when I run games with heavy load and the GPU's heat is too high, the GPU's usage drops drastically as you can see in the image, they drop to about 25-30%, and go up again when the heat is lower.

    Maybe raising the fans speed with this bios can help with the problem.

    That's thermal throttling, the GPUs in this laptop drop down to a low, low, 405MHz when they hit 98*C, that's when you'll start to see some crazy stuttering. I've ordered some Arctic MX-4 as well as the NotePal X3 cooling pad and they should be here tomorrow. I'll make a thread with results once I test them. One thing I really don't understand though is, how did you manage to get the first GPU so high? Were you benchmarking on carpet or something? Even severely overclocked to 1254/2700 my first GPU never goes past 85*C and that's just sitting flat on a table..

    ...Are you sure it was just the Youtube video you were watching having a low volume? It may be me, but I've not known Chrome to have it's own volume settings. Did you try any other youtube video?

  15. First CPU. Could you please download HWInfo64 and check there for CPU cores Ghz? It will show which cores are at which frequency, might be better to understand what is happening exactly. Are you using Intel XTU - extreme tuning utility? It could also show you some more info. Then again, I recommend downloading ThrottleStop which will show yet more information. Having at least screenshots from all those programs we could analyse and decide why "clock fluctuating between 2995 and 3095 GHz over and over". For now, I can just be guessing the real situation why's that happening, and there are a lot of variants why.

    Regarding the LCD.. Are you using SLI configuration or single GPU?

    I saw the options in BIOS for short/long power, but I didn't see anything about unlocking them so I didn't bother. As far as I can tell though, there is no more throttling when the GPU hits 65*C anyway thanks to Throttlestop 7.00b2, but another thing I did notice is that when the CPU isn't under load, that's when both cores in my i5-4200m start to be at 3097MHz, but when it's under load, both drop down to 2995. So I don't know how to stop that. And I'm using 750M SLI.

  16. In unlocked BIOS thermal configuration you can set manual config - it shows that CPU throttles because of temperature at 95 C. Meaning if your CPU throttles at 65, it could be TDP based throttling (ThrottleStop shows when that is happening).

    Go through Advanced options and search for Short/Long power options. You can set TDP watts in BIOS but also enable unclocking them to be used further in the system in Intel XTU for example or ThrottleStop (please use 7.00 beta 2 version). What I did to disable TDP is disabled short power in XTU, and set long power to 300w or so. Now, what I am left with is temperature based throttling (but not TDP throttling) at 95 C (I have not changed that yet). So now basically I can load 100% all cores when I set 2.6Ghz (when running p95) on non-modified stock cooling / non-repasted. Setting 2.7Ghz and temperatures too high.. Or I could set 2.8-3.2 Ghz for XTU benchmark or some games and still get no temperature throttling, because cores are not loaded 100% all the time. And I do all this -63 mV undervolted.

    What I like is that Ghz are not spiking during CPU load, meaning no random lag in games mostly, which leads to more stable FPS in games. I cannot say that these are the best settings, maybe someone will share some other settings ?

    Huh, thanks for this, I'll definitely be trying this out, but I have two questions, the fluctuating GHz you mentioned that is now gone from your XTU settings, would that be the reason that CPU-Z shows my clock fluctuating between 2995 and 3095 GHz over and over? And also, in your signature, your laptop's monitor is at 103Hz? What? How did you manage that?

  17. Hey guys, I have the i5-4200M + 750M SLI version of the y510p, and there's this really annoying feature that I can't seem to understand why Lenovo built it into the computer. When GPU 1 hits 65*C, it throttles the CPU from 3.09GHz to 2.45, and that is quite a bit of power to lose from a measly temperature like 65. Because of the throttling, it really lowers CPU performance, like my 3DMark Sky Diver score here NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i5-4200M,LENOVO VIQY0Y1 vs the extreme measures I took to stop the GPU from hitting 65*C and got this score NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i5-4200M,LENOVO VIQY0Y1 ..Does anyone know how to disable this feature? I'm on the latest modded BIOS / vBIOSes from svl, and I've tried Throttlestop 5.00 but it didn't do a thing, maybe I don't know how to use it correctly? Thanks for any help!

    You can't get much clearer instructions than the really helpful tut posted by PlaZing on page 97. I also read a few pages back and saw that you wanted to cool the ultrabay GPU by controlling the fan, unfortunately you can't, Lenovo's reasons for doing that are unknown. The best bet you can get to cool your ultrabay GPU is repaste it with something like Arctic MX-4, unshroud the fans, and get a decent cooling pad.

  19. I can confirm that the VBIOS are modded same as the original mod with increased -ve voltage offset and the unlocked menu is the same as the original mod. For the step, I will try my best to explain.

    1. If you're on v3.05, just download the fptw64 in the first post and run the backup.bat from admin cmd. You will got bios.bin.

    2. If not on v3.05, just update from lenovo driver website and follow 1st step.

    3. Then open the Bios Fixer for v3.05 and drag&drop the bios.bin, it will make a modified bios as v305Mod.bin.

    4. Then open bios by pressing f2 at the lenovo splash screen and enable bios back flash.

    5. Download this v2.07 bios, then flash it.

    6. Prepare a bootable DOS usb and put everything form the EC folder to the usb.

    7. Open bios, set the boot to legacy and legacy first and put the usb on top of the list.

    8. After boot into DOS, just type "EC.bat" and enter. It will flash the v3.05 ec.

    7. (optional) You can check the ec and bios version at the bios to confirm that you have EC = 3.05 and BIOS = 2.07

    8. Boot into windows and open admin cmd, navigate to the bios folder and type "fptw64 -f v305Mod.bin -bios" it will flash the modded bios.

    9. If no error, you can reboot and check the bios for unlocked menu.

    Hope this helps and I take no responsible for anything happen to your laptop. This is what i do and it work perfectly.

    And one last question, also many thanks for the fast response, but, I see the file name for that 2.07 BIOS you sent contains [stock], according to dxdiag and BIOS itself, I'm already on 2.07, so I assume for me, steps 1-5 aren't necessary? Also, I just follow these steps to make a bootable DOS stick? How to Create a Bootable DOS USB Drive And then just throw the files in the EC folder onto it, and then steps 7-9? I'm sorry for all the questions, I'm extremely new to flashing BIOS so I need all the help in the world so I don't destroy my laptop.

    EDIT: What do I do with the ultrabay update files? o.O <----- Ignore..I'm too stupid to read the second post..

    I definitely agree with this. Can someone make a video or at least a in depth step by step run through of how to flash the 3.05 modded bios and the ultrabay update found in page 95? Also, can someone confirm that it also contains the unlocked menu and vbios mod in the original OP mod?
