  1. @visor2580 The "right card" was regarding a short card that fits into the AKiTiO and still allows the case to be closed. The list of cards is very short and the majority of cards do not allow that. Also using a Dell DA-2 is limiting the choice of GPUs chips to any chip in range of 750Ti to a GTX 970. Using a GTX 980 will shift everything, because: - you can't close the case anymore - you will need a bigger PSU (Dell DA-2 isn't a safe option anymore) So, you can run the setup "ghetto style" or put everything into a PC case, which results in more costs for case and PCIe riser cable/adapter.
  2. So currently you have a Dell DA-2 and an adapter cable that results in 1xbarrel plug and 2x6-Pin PCIe plugs? If that is the case, than yes, you can use an adapter to go from 2x6-Pin to 1x8-Pin. Is it the short GTX970 ASUS card? Keep in mind that this card will not allow you to close the AKiTiO case anymore!
  3. Glad that its working 364.47 is the bad one, better use 364.51 Beta (not sure if they are only available on Windows 10).
  4. Using the AKiTiO PSU might end up in three ways: - you are lucky an it is working - one of your PSUs will blow up / or the electronics of the AKiTiO - the GPU will constantly crash The AKiTiO is way too weak and can cause ground loops. The risk of a not propperly working system is given and we try and preach here: Use a modded barrel plug and power the whole setup from a single 12V source!!!1111eleven Since FC isn't even working with most cards by just adding them (e.g. in a classic MacPro) you need to do some modifications to the software! With an eGPU it might get even more tricky. You can keep trying, but I haven't read about any confirmed FC eGPU.
  5. Final Cut might not work with eGPUs yet. Try rendering apps like Blender or Octane:
  6. Don't use the latest driver, go directly to the latest BETA driver! Latest normale driver can kill your Windows.
  7. @visor2580 Since Bizon is ONLY a hardware product, you would encounter the same (software/OS) problems with it or a DIY one (if you will have any in the first place). Building it yourself isn't that hard, the only thing you would have to do is ordering the right parts (the right card!) and making an adapter to power the setup. With a GTX960 you can choose between a desktop PC PSU or an external Dell DA-2 220W power brick.
  8. Oh I forgot to mention the barrel plug adapter! I made a 8-Pin ATX EPS -> barrel plug adapter, which is just another 12V source and hopefully a bit more reliable than 2x molex.
  9. 1. AKiTiO Thunder2 2. Apple 2m TB cable 3. 500W be quiet! PSU 4. PSU starter plug (paperclip trick) 5. Cooler Master Elite 130 6. flexible riser x16 to x16 7. 10. Have you successfully installed the Bootcamp driver? Maybe reinstall the Trackpad driver again.
  11. Try and find this riser: DeLOCK 41788 PCIe x16 Riser You will need exactly this riser to make a 90° turn and you will need a flexible riser cable as well. OR you try and find Li-Heat Riser like this in Type-A: http://www.highflow.nl/hardware/videokaarten/li-heat-pci-e-gen-3.0-ribbon-flexible-riser-cable-black.html As you can see the connector makes a 90° turn into the cable: This is mandatory for cases like the Elite 130.
  12. Riser cable have often been the cause for problems for some people here. Especially "beginners" are going crazy looking for the "bad part" in their system when it's not running smooth. Using a riser is possible, often withouth problems, but you should be aware of the problem. Riser are great if you want to put the GPU+PSU into a case, e.g. the Cooler Master Elite 130 (here you will need 2 riser!). And if you use the riser, better use the barrel plug mod and not power the system through the molex on the riser! Regarding your part list: - maybe consider a 2m Apple TB cable - maybe consider a adapter to power on the PSU (or do the paper clip trick) - Barrel plug + this cable: "2xMolex -> 6-Pin PCIe" or get an "8-Pin ATX EPS extension cable" (not 8-Pin PCIe).
  13. Hey, please DO NOT use more than one PSU in the whole eGPU setup! You should power the GPU and the AKiTiO from one single PSU (e.g. the EVGA 500W). Please skip the Dell DA-2! Be aware that you would need an adapter cable to power the AKiTiO: e.g. https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/6543-guide-making-a-molex-to-barrel-adapter/ Why are you going to use a riser? You want to use the GPU away from the AKiTiO? I was using the EVGA GTX 980 Ti Hybrid recently and was very pleased with my 15" Intel Iris only MBPr.
  14. GTX 970 tend to have problems like that, because the power delivery of them is too weak. Also some PSUs might cause that problem. Can you test in Windows to udnerclock the card and see if you still hear it?
  15. Does it come close to any of these? https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=coil+whine&page=&utm_source=opensearch
  16. There is no way to connect a TB device directly to the VM. IT might work with unRAID, but that isn't really a VM.
  17. seems ok, but you need to do the math of the hardware value.
  18. Good! Since it is a PC card and drivers aren't loaded before the OS, the GPU can't output a singal that early. Only flashed GPUs will work, but that isn'T really worth the hassle. In Windows you can also disable the "monitor" that is recognized from the direct connection to the Mini. By that you will have the boot selection, but not two monitors in Windows.
  19. Is there a way to test that? Like a benchmark?
  20. @aldwinjimenez AFAIK hotplugging in Windows itself isn't a good way in Windows, without the propper BIOS settings (that we can't access). Try this: - go in boot selction menu - select windows - boot windows - power on the eGPU during booting into Windows (e.g. during the spinning wheel) Also, have you installed the latest Nvidia driver?
  21. @aldwinjimenez Can you try hotplugging when Windows is actually booting?
  22. @cyphersk8 Better ask all the OSX questions here: https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/7989-script-automating-the-installation-of-egpu-on-os-x-inc-display-output/ Regarding the PSU... some cards (especially the new ones) can cause coil whine/buzzing with certain PSUs. The noise you hear should change with the FPS changing. Maybe that very high resolutions are a bit too extreme for an eGPU to push over TB2. For gaming you really should focus on using the external monitor.
  23. If the CPU is good enough for VR, you can get a bigger card.
  24. The 120W PSU is way too little to power that setup. Also the GPU has to have the 8-Pin PCIe plug inside! So getting the Dell DA-2 is a good choice. The adapter can easily be done with some soldering.
  25. Continue trying. Even a little offset will help a bit. Maybe your CPU is very sensitive and needs a high voltage. Maybe try -25mV...
