1. Damn! Nice mod. That's crazy. Took my idea of using an msata and placing a fan there except that I never planned on a whole new heatsink. I just wanted to blow over the CPU. Sent from my YP-G70 using Tapatalk 2
2. Great work Prema! I have Fn+1 fans already. What I'd really like to see is RAM speed configuration. I have 4x4GB DDR3-2133 Kingston HyperX that I'd like to use. Using two of them in my NP6110 right now and wow the improvement in overall response is noticeable. So with this "configurable TDP" in "UP" state, does that mean I won't need Throttlestop any more? (sorry Unclewebb).
3. Is this the same thing? I'm not clear what the package comes with and it calls it PE4H v3.2: PE4H V3.2 I thought 2.4A was Gen 2 compliant, what about 3.2? I'm assuming this comes with the enclosure, power supply, ExpressCard PCIe card/cable, and already has a swex of some sort for switching. Same thing is on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=271135926185
4. I want to order the PE4H-EC060A package from hwtools.net. However whenever I click "Buy" it just takes me to the PayPal site, but doesn't add it to my cart. Other items add to the cart just fine. I emailed their web contact, but haven't heard anything back and issue still persists. Does anyone have regular contact with them that can help get this fixed? I want to order the new "Gen 2" package for my HP 6475b. Thanks.
5. Got the laptop. I'm pretty impressed with the build quality. It's very solid, but the screen sucks, horrible viewing angles and low brightness, but hey at least it's 1600x900 right? Lol. Scored 1320 on 3DMark11 out of the box (well updated to 12.11 drivers). Now I'll have to start investigating the hardware for this setup for eGPU! Between the laptop, my new desktop, and the eGPU I will have forked out nearly $2000. All for the sake of science right? So can you maybe handhold me along with what I need to get started? I have a PSU that I can use. So I will just need PE4H with an EC060A? Not sure what the HP060A is for? And where do I plug in the PSU? Sorry for the newb questions. But thanks for your help. Edit: ok, I see they have it all as one package PE4H-EC060A. But when I click "buy" it takes me direct to paypal. If I click any of the other packages it adds it to the cart. I think there's something wrong with the link.
6. Thanks guys. Tech Inferno Fan I may need your assistance in getting everything up and running but I'm willing to give it a shot. Maybe even invest in an AMD card, although I think I have an AMD Radeon <s>6750</s> 6670 single slot that was used in an older Shuttle machine I've got. Maybe start with that. EDIT: Correction it's only a Radeon 6670 not 6750. But good enough for a start. Brian - thanks for that info. Only time I'd like to take some stuff with me is if a site goes belly up, well or if I got banned like nando 4 did, and can totally understand that frustration. I look forward to sharing my experiences over here though. Seems like a good community of down to earth people. I'll be making my $100 "Elite Member" contribution here soon, as soon as I get around to poking money back into my PayPal account. BTW awesome rig you've got there in your sig! That's some serious muscle.
7. Silly simple stupid question, but are you sure that those games/benchmarks are set to use the dedicated GPU in the nVidia Control Panel? Also, make sure you're on "high performance" setting and not "balanced" or "power saving" and not on battery.
8. I ordered an HP 6475b from Newegg recently with an AMD Trinity A10-4600m. Some of you may remember me from NBR (same username). I am noticing a dwindling presence at NBR and am a bit disappointed with the number of quality individuals banned from there. I don't care why or how, I just know that some very helpful and informative individuals have been booted (Tech Inferno Fan comes to the forefront of my mind), and it doesn't make me too happy. That being said, I will likely share my 6475b review here at T|I instead of NBR. I also am interested in giving this whole eGPU thing a whirl. It really won't matter to me personally since it doesn't fit my usage scenario, but just for the sake of mobile science and my own personal interest, I'll likely give it a whirl. I plan on updating my desktop GPU from a GTX 460 to a GTX 670 and will likely use the 460 in this experiment. So I guess, hello there, and hope we can have some fun together! So any input ahead of time would be greatly appreciated.
9. Hey svl7, thanks for the modded BIOS. One thing on the Clevo OC one, is it possible to get rid of the "GPU bouncing" ? It seems to be corrected with the MSI OV/OC ones but not in the Clevo one. I am fine with stock voltages, but really can't OC properly because the clocks can throttle with extreme conditions like this:
10. Thanks svl7! I'll have to check if the W110ER has 30 pin LVDS.... If so you just cost me more money, lol. Although you say 11.3" not 11.6" so it likely won't fit anyhow. What is the LCD manufacturer and model do you know yet?
11. svl7 - thanks for the vBIOS mods. I've been pulling the hairs out of my bald head though trying to figure out random crashes. Turns out it was the 304.79 beta drivers the whole time.
12. I have not been able to play Dead Space 1 or 2 because the control scheme just threw me off. The lag of input. Everyone tells me to use an Xbox controller. Maybe I'll try that. I love those horror / sci-fi games and movies. Seems right up my alley.
13. Armored kill looks simply excellent. I am none too thrilled with the last pack Close Quarters but this one looks fun.
14. Yep, amazing clocks. This 680m is spectacular. Here's my stock and max allowable overclocks with stock BIOS: Stock: Overclock 854MHz Core / 2280MHz GDDR5 You can also see it runs pretty damn cool. I'm leary about the BIOS's floating around with volt mods though. Hate to brick my new $2000 laptop.
15. Wups, gotta update my sig. Sager went back. I'm looking for cheap and good battery life (> 4hrs) Hard to beat $450 even if screen resolution sucks. I may actually end up keeping the Asus. I don't have a lot of need for a laptop at the moment, so I'd rather go as cheap as possible. But it's hard to give up a 1080p screen, 6-7 hrs battery life, and blu-ray, along with a slightly faster GPU.
16. Crossfire is a mixed bag right now. With DirectX 10 and 11 support is pretty good. Although it only garners about 10-15% FPS increase when it should improve by about 25%. But with improved drivers over time hopefully it will get better.
17. Surprised I haven't seen this here. I picked up one of these laptops from Best Buy: A6-3400m 1400-2300MHz 4GB DDR3 (one stick, one free slot) Radeon 6650m + crossfire with iGP 500GB 5400RPM HDD DVDRW 15.6" 1366x768 screen 6-cell 56000WHr battery The CPU can overclock as well as the A8's. I can run mine at 2.4GHz and GPU can overclock modestly, but in the end, I can game on Bad Company 2 at 45-50fps with medium detail and Starcraft 2 about same FPS. Heck I was even able to game on battery using the iGP playing Bad Company 2 at 1280x720 at medium low for 1.5 hours at 25-35fps! My only issue with it is the screen is average for color, brightness, and viewing angles, but not horrible. And battery life is still a little lacking, getting about 3.5 hours with light web browsing. See my brief overview on YouTube: Needless to say, I will probably end up keeping my DV6z only because I need a larger resolution display and longer battery life, but it's still hard to swallow the +$300 or so for the DV6z over this Asus laptop.
18. Here's my brief overview of the NP8130 vs DV6z. 19. Sorry been away so long. Took a lot of time messing with the DV6z. Had to send it back due to overheating, but getting a replacement. NP8130 is going back, primarily because of battery life and cost considering 90% of what I do with a laptop these days is web surfing and basic office tasks and movie viewing, other 10% gaming. Stock system with crossfire, 3DMark Vantage is about P6200. I will post screenshot later just on my netbook at the moment, and pics are on my desktop. I'll post in the HP forum later.
20. I have been spending most of my time with the HP DV6z. I will be comparing the two. While the Sager is really nice, it's still about $500 more expensive and only gets about 2.5 hours battery compared with 6-7 with the 9-cell on the HP. The DV6z games reasonably well too. If you want to game a lot on your laptop, the Sager is a much better value, but for what I do 90% will be regular web surfing and desktop stuff, with other 10% gaming, so DV6z is looking promising for my needs.
21. Cool beans! Thanks StevenX. Everyone has to remember that this is Alpha code so lots of improvements are yet to come. But if Alpha you can stay above 30 fps that's a great sign. And lolz, my video
22. Everything I'm reading is that the CPU can overclock like crazy. Default voltage is high, and most can drop the voltage and still OC. Same with the GPU. We will see.
23. System will be here Wednesday. However I also ordered an HP DV6z. Based on price alone I may keep the HP over the Sager. So far it's over $500 cheaper, and the AMD CPU and GPU seem to be crazy overclockers. The HP should be here probably middle of the following week, so I can do a side by side comparison. My biggest concern with the HP is the screen, but apparently it's a new LG screen that is pretty nice.
24. Just thought I'd make note that I ordered a DV6z notebook with the following specs. I plan on pitting it up against my Sager NP8130 for build quality, screen, general use, and gaming performance. 15.6" 1080p matte LCD A8-3530mx quad core AMD CPU Radeon GT 6750m GT GPU 6GB DDR3 1333 Blu-Ray Reader / DVDRW combo drive 9-cell battery Even though I know the 6750m GPU can't hold a candle to the GTX 560m in the Sager NP8130, the HP has the advantage of 6+ hours battery life compared to 3 in the Sager, and is about $450 cheaper similarly equipped (primarily blu-ray and 1080p screen).
