One guy tried to use the adapter on a Y410p and failed. I have no experience with Y410p and I can't guarantee the functionality.
You need always an external monitor for the GPU on the adapter.
It works perfectly on my y410p.

unless you live in a 40'c ambient then something is surely wrong. 60'c idle isn't right.
Nope. The laptop is in around 22c ambient

Holy crap really?
Something is up there, have you inserted washers on your heatsink?
Nope, using the stock configuration.

Mine are ~41 with normal loads like chrome tabs /w stock voltages.
You could try sanding down the heat sink surface and make sure it is making proper contact with the CPU die.
60c is really high for Idle, Are you using a good thermal paste? I had the same problem before with a cheap thermal paste.
I'm using Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut.

My idles are around 60C, even after repasting and adding some thermal paste under the GPU heat pipe to help the CPU. Even a 100mv undervolt has not helped much. Is there any way to decrease my temps?

@TheReceiver
About the secondary SATA port, it should work along the ultrabay since they're separate connectors. I'll give it a try once I receive the male-to-male SATA cable that I ordered specifically for this purpose.
In order to get the most out of your CPU w/Ultrabay; The Opolar vacuum coolers are great if you don't mind the noise. Un-shrouding the bottom cover would certainly be a better solution and a quieter one. the trick is to provide an ample fresh air flow to the air intake under the laptop.
I am really clueless about the batteries. But I can tell you this much; Avoid batteries that are not from lenovo coz there is a good chance that the laptop will refuse to charge them.
If you are referring to the usage of both the Ultrabay PCIe and SATA slots concurrently, then it is definitely possible. I am doing this right now. You just need the correct cable. I'm using this one from Amazon. It allows you to connect the Ultrabay SATA port to an HDD caddy. This one connects directly to the HDD without the caddy. Here's my (messy) setup.

BTW, cutting the adapter in the way outlined above works. I did that to allow room to plug in a hard drive. I'm getting around 4200 graphics in Time Spy with my RX 480 Strix.

thanks, does it work with the internal screen? or do we need to hook it up to an external display?

You'll need an external display.

hey skavi. can you do a review once you have it up and running?

It works. I got it, but decided to return my GPU and get a different one (Red Devil to Strix) pretty quickly, so I didn't have much time for testing.

@David 'SOAP' Washington@Tesla would either of you happen to know?

@gerald would the adapter still function if I cut it along the line in the attached image?

Is the adaptor very loose in the y410p for everyone?

Has anyone made progress on enabling Nvidia cards? The bios is what's blocking it, if I remember correctly. Wasn't someone on this forum able to enable blocked wireless cards previously?

@Tesla thanks for trying. If you have any more time, @goalque seems to be having success running the internal display with an eGPU by using AMD XConnect. Unfortunately, he posted his findings only an hour ago and has not clarified any of his methods. It does seem to be a promising path for driving the internal display with AMD.

Can anyone see if the software, "Lucid Virtu," allows for use of the internal monitor with AMD cards? It seems to be a platform agnostic version of Optimus. According to this datasheet, Virtu allows for output of the GPU to go through the main display output, rather than through the GPU outputs. Thanks for any confirmation.

@skavi yes it is working fine.
First AMD did fix excessive power draw issues in a driver update.
Second, even with the power issues, the adapter is designed to pull all the pcie power from the external power supply too. so really its nothing being pulled from the y510p's motherboard.
ManyStrongWords has a video showing it running in his y510p
Can I use the laptop's screen or is an external monitor necessary?

Hi @Tesla.
Are RX480s working with this adaptor now? I noticed that previously they were drawing too much power from PCIe. Has this been fixed by a driver of third party hardware?
Thanks.

@skavi I recently received gerald's adapter, but it doesn't appear to be compatible with with my Y500 (right now). Assuming you have a Y510p and didn't want to wait for production, I could sell you mine.

I'd love that! I'll DM you.

@intuxacated PM me some means of communication (Steam, Discord, phone, text, etc.). Tech Inferno won't let me message you.

Hey Gerald. Thanks for making this for the community. This Ebay listing has ended. Are there any more batches on the way at all?

Does the 480 work in Gerald's adaptor?

I'm selling my OG gerald board. It's slightly modified in order to accommodate an ultrabay hard drive, the adapter cable for which I can throw in for free. Looking for $60. I've moved on to Thunderbolt 3 eGPU, but this was a fun time.
PM if interested.
