Hmm, Where is SLi flash for v2.04 - GT 650M
-
Load default settings doesn't help. guess left the remove coin cell option. (Just check n1smo pictures, I don't think I'm able to find CMOS battery in this unit). Should i flash the stock v2.02 provided on the OP?
-
Urm, I have a stock bios backup and when i flash it (similar how i flash the mod bios) the nvidia inspector still showed XX.XXX.XXX [MODIFIED] is there a work-around for this? or I need other bios tools to flash it? Because I need to send back to the service center for speaker repairs.
Thanks in Advance.

Those who flash 1.1v bios mods for ultra bay, does your GPU-Z give you wrong readings? I get 1250 Memory readings but I only clock 1100 for it.
-
Hmm, how you set RAM timings in this modded bios.
-
I see. However, I wouldn't go to any wholesale sites...Ebay is already bad enough but still doable. Anything from a wholesale site is cheap, usually unlegit, etc. With such a purchase as a laptop CPU, I would infact spend the extra 50 euros to play it safe unless the seller at Ebay is not a trusted one.
You can try to play around the 3632QM by maybe underclocking it a bit and trying to down the voltage somewhat. Since your upgrading from an i5-3210M, and by your posts, I assume you own a Lenevo y500 or y580? I recently got the SLI y500 myself and yet to have unlock the bios and such. If I were you, as I will later upgrade the CPU myself, What I would do is underclock it and down-volt it just a bit to work around the limits. Also make sure you have good airflow and cooling. Once everything works stable, at that point you can try going up the spectrum. Don't expect the VRM's or mosfets to last as long as with the 3210M though.
Hope to see how things go! I plan on doing this myself! I'm curious as to how it works out for you. P.S. Its good you chose a good thermal paste for a laptop, spreads well and shouldn't be a hassle.
Which CPU you gonna get for upgrade?
-
No I didn't touch the thermal pads.
There's no trick to taking the back cover off. You just have to go slow and be gentle. Start at the rear of the laptop (where the air intake and battery are) and work your way around to the front. Since it's attached by inward-facing tabs, I found it easiest to pry up and out with my fingers between the cover and the rest of the base. You have to use a little force in a few places.
-
No, not necessary if you followed the instructions in the first post and did everything properly.

I opened up my Y500 today and repasted the CPU, GPU, and Ultrabay GPU. The back cover and keyboard bezel were stuck on pretty tight and took forever because I was afraid was snapping any of the tabs, but I was patient and gentle with them and thankfully nothing broke.
I used OCZ Freeze on the CPU and GPU and IC Diamond on the Ultrabay GPU. The Ultrabay and main GPU had the exact same temperatures before, so this is a good way to see which paste is better. Well, what do you know, all my hard work was for naught. After repasting, temperatures were identical across the board. I'm absolutely certain the high temperatures of this system are not due to bad factory paste jobs but to the sub-par cooling system. A single fan inside a performance/gaming notebook just doesn't cut it here or anywhere else. Look at MSI's overheating G-series for more evidence of this. I have a feeling you could empty a whole tube of whatever crap they use at the factory onto the die and still get the same temperatures.
Also FYI @n1smo the video you followed for your disassembly was of a prototype Y400, not Y500, which is why the layout and screws were different. If you watch the disassembly video closely, you'll see it says Y490 at the bottom left screen bezel. I'm guessing Y490 is what they called it before going with Y400. I was surprised how different some of the motherboard placements in the video were compared to my Y500. For my disassembly I followed the official Lenovo Y400/Y500 hardware maintenance manual, which has the correct, separate instructions for both machines.
I think IC Diamond cure times takes 12 hours. I maybe get shin-etsu because it heard good things about it.

Sorry for asking this silly question, is Y500 able to upgrade the processor. I have a 3630QM model because I need to do some photo and video editing so does Lenovo have a white list for processors. If it didn't have, is it possible upgrade to 3740QM?
-
Anyone tried Corsair's 1866 RAM on Y500? Is it just plug and play or require some tweaks?
-
Sorry for asking this, anyone with Killer wireless n 1202 work on this laptop (with the bios mod flashed)
-
**EDITED**
Sorry for not reading instructions on page 40 :3
-
Yay, finally more than 5 posts. Now, I can download Svl7 bios mods!!
By the way, how many % increase after perform overclocking than stock clock? I'm curious... :3

Has anyone else had issues with your SSD running a little hot in this notebook?
My Mushkin Atlas Deluxe seems to set off every temperature warning when just sitting idle.
Also, I was wondering if there was anything that could be done to cool this thing off a tad.
I think you got a faulty msata, or try get a notepad cooler?
-
not true man when i bump my clock speed up by 250 and memory clock up by 500 i get bigger fps improvements than the driver optimizations
Did you face any throttling when doing benchmarks like msi kombustor?
-
Nice maybe we can do some soldering in the end
Lol, that's sounds adventurous...
-
Sorry for noobish question, what is the difference between the stock heat-pipes and the triple 3 pipe CPU cooler?
-
I have replaced the thermal compound on my y400 with gelid gc extreme, same temps as stock
When you dissemble your unit, is the thermal paste like cake on the icing (very thick application)?

Quick question, is the vBIOS mods for ultrabay from the OP is usable for Windows 8.1?
