Y580 2 Questions - Battery / Graphic

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody!

1. Battery

Should I take out my battery when I have plugged in AC power supply ?

My laptop is always set on Lenovo dynamic graphic, and main task of it, is gaming.

2. Graphic

Sometimes when im on "desktop" screen blink once (fast blink) and then Laptop is not reading GTX660M. After blink i must restart laptop to be able for GTX660M GPU use...

Is it some kind of issue ? Or just Nvidia/Lenovo drivers are crappy and after turning off dedicaded GPU, drivers can't turn it on again ?

1. You can, but don't have to. It might improve temps by tiny bit, but also means you won't be protected in case of power failure (or somebody tripping over your ac adapter cable).

2. I have very similar problem. I think it's a faulty GPU. In my case it started acting like that around month, maybe 2 ago, but fortunately it's not getting worse.

I do have 2 tips to minimise the problem (unless you want to have it fixed under warranty):

- In Nvidia control panel set Intel GPU as default GPU, and set NVidia GPU for games only.

- Use balanced or energy saver power scheme unless gaming.

1. If battery will be all the time connected in, may it reduce battery life time ?

2. My trick is that I have NvidiaInspector running in background, and there's no turning off GPU.

So You say that, it's shouldn't happend ? I have this laptop about 2 month, meybe 3, and that "Blink issue" was on beggining...

Should I send laptop for a warranty ?

1. Use "battery protection mode" in Lenovo Energy Settings. Modern batteries don't wear out that quickly when left charging. It will wear out anyway though. That's unavoidable.

2. Not much of a trick unless all you do is play games. In this case... my tip is to get a life ;) Seriously though I agree with HomeLite. Have it fixed or replaced under warranty. Mine is still under warranty, but my situation isn't that simple, so I just endure ;)

Battery life will not be reduced if it sits inside the laptop as it will charge only when it runs lower than 95% and it won't happen quickly. Modern batteries made of lithium get worn very slowly when charged from like 80-90%. They wear quicker if discharged completetly.

I am having some heat issues with the GTX 680m I installed on my Alienware M17x R2 (yes, its old).  Having installed and ran HWiNFO64, it appears that the maximum rpm of the GPU fan is 2560rpm, even when the GPU reached a maximum of 93° Celsius.  The rpm seems low, but what is the maximum rpm of the fan, does anyone have any ideas?

Hi, I'm having problems trying to connect a GTX 750 Ti to my Lenovo T420 using the dock EXP GDC Beast (express card version).
      My laptop: Lenovo T420
      RAM: 8GB DDR3
      CPU: Intel Core i5 2520M
      GPU: Intel HD Graphics 3000
My problem is: if I plug the express card and I turn on the laptop it doesn't boot up and the screen becomes horrible, with coloured pixels and a sound like "bip-bip".
If I try plugging the express card when the laptop is already turned on it sees the gpu, but if try installing the drivers I have to apply the modifies restarting the computer.
I hope you understood my problem (I don't speak English very well).
Please help me, It's making me crazy!
EDIT: I didn't say that if I plug the express card when the pc is already turned on, in the device menager there is "Error 12" on the gtx 750 ti

Hello everyone,, I need your expertise, I have a m17 r4, (2012) unlocked A15 bios thanks to Klem, it has a Gtx 675m in it now,
I would like to know the best GPU to upgrade to without losing a lot of the factory functions of the alienware laptop, like being able to use both VGA functions such as intel 4000, and the factory bios for the cooling of the GPU, I don't want to solely rely on the nvidia
As a full dedicated GPU, let me know what VGA card to get and what vbios to use, I will gladly donate beer to you for your help, or point me to a member on this forum who can help me,
      Thanks, Shelby,  Aka captcavy

I read a lot of different threads about the maximum possible M17X R2 configuration. But after I was more and more irritated.
What is at the end the best performant GPU solution (with unlocked bios and dirver mod) but WITHOUT manual fan control and such things. Because if I want to sell one day my M17X R2 I don't want to explain and force the buyer to control the GPU fan per hand.
