Guest
The Clevo W230SS just got it's QHD+ screen option in production units (Samsung LTN133YI01-L01). I'll be upgrading my W230ST to W230SS during my trip to Europe next month... So right now I am trying to make up my own mind. Should I go with 2300x1800 pixel this time? Thought I would share a few (sub-optimal) things I dug-up around the web. A comparison of the W230SS FHD & QHD+ viewing angle: FHD: QHD+: A comparison of the EIZO EV2436W 24" FHD IPS and W230SS with QHD+ and 276ppi) The Team: EIZO: W230SS: EIZO close-up: W230SS close-up: EIZO close-up 2: W230SS close-up 2: EIZO 4K movie: W230SS 4K movie: EIZO 4K movie close-up: W230SS 4K movie close-up: EIZO 4k close-up 2: W230SS 4K close-up 2: Random 4K video shots: (wish they would at least have paused the video) But don't think you can game too well on 3200x1800! (Though the screen scales perfectly 1/2 to 1600x900): Sleeping Dogs: FHD: QHD+: Tomb Raider: FHD: QHD+: QHD+ estimated battery life with PC Mark 8 This is maybe interesting regarding scaling on QHD+ screen: (Both are set to 3200x1800 pixel. First shot is @100%, second @200% scaling in Win8.1): And this is the W230SS with QHD+ hooked-up to a 46 inch...lol: Reviews of W230SS FHD (matte) and QHD+ (glossy) screens: FHD (Chi Mei N133HSE-EA1) QHD+ (Samsung LTN133YI01-L01) And here the WQHD screen: WQHD (Sharp LQ133T1JW02)

Andiii
I am able to get my W230SS with the 2560x1440 display. Will the modded Bios work too?Gesendet von meinem XT1032 mit Tapatalk
Guest
The regular Mod should work just fine. I may get the WQHD myself after all...
Quaddragone
I saw that option too, but maybe an overkill on a tiny laptop
---
How well does the laptop performs at 1600x900?
terry7866
I got this laptop too, but it am suffering from some light bleeding and I might have to open it up and maybe put some black electrical tape around the panel, not sure how to open the laptop tho.. Guest
Lightbleed is normal on those screens even without LID and frame, don't waste your time.
terry7866
yeah, I'm starting to think that myself... I just every time i notice it on the boot screen, i get an overwhelming need to fix it! It's not even a big deal, but so far I love the laptop.
kamokarsi
How bad is the bleed? any chance you can post a pic?
terry7866
it's not too bad, it's just on my old laptop (Dell Studio XPS 16) it was barely noticeable. Here are the pics and the third picture is my old laptop for comparison.
terry7866
Just to confirm, the screen I got was the QHD+ display (3200 x 1800)
rancorx2
doesn't it screw up your eyes having such a high resolution on such a small screen?
domjmurphy
doesn't it screw up your eyes having such a high resolution on such a small screen?Yes and no...On some legacy desktop apps it does but there are more and more apps arriving now with support for high res displays. Honestly, I love it but I understand the concern.
rlandor
I read something about scaling issues in Windows 8 (especially with adobe apps). I hope the upcoming windows 9 release will fix that. Does anyone know if it's possible to run OSX on this laptop?
Thorburn
Personally don't think Windows DPI scaling is quite there yet - have an XPS 15 with a 3200x1800 panel and often have to switch off scaling and lower the resolution as I use a lot of Adobe applications and they're basically broken.
